Install Symantec Download - Event Log Missing In Services List
Nov 19, 2006
I have been having an ongoing problem in being able to install programs (diskeeper and Symantec) after I have downloaded them. Their advice to me has been to double click the "Event Log" in my Services list and set it to automatic. I have just realized that the title, "Event Log" does not exist in my list and I think that may be my problem. Recently, I upgraded my Windows XP Pro from a pirated version by paying for and installing the Genuine Windows XP Pro version. I had then installed SP2. I wonder if in all of this I have lost the Event Log heading and if anyone can tell me how I can get it back.
Dialog box with Event Log Services - System log is full. It looks like the Disk is full and I can't find anything to remove until I talk to the user. How do I address this message.
I'm looking for Tapisrv (Telephony Service). I've looked under MMC services panel, and it seems to be missing. I've added an old internal 56K modem after the install. While everything seems to have installed okay, the computer seems to think that I have no modem (drivers are okay). A browse through the event log shows that the Tapisrv is n/a. Are all services not installed for the first time? If not, then how to add a service? I've just moved to XP, so I'm unfamiliar with it.
The machine-default permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {BC866CF2-5486-41F7-B46B-9AA49CF3EBB1} to the user NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE SID (S-1-5-20). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.
to start with I was using TeamViewer to remotely install symantec client 9.0 on my. Papa's laptop -winXP. The AV successfully installed and then the issue started when it was updating itself. all of a sudden the machine hanged .. never to recover! When hard booted the machine booted up but the start button nevr came and all the desktop apps were just small boxes! Recovery Steps that i took: I booted the machine in the safe mode and tried to uninstall the symantec but the windows installer does not run in safe mode !!
tried to follow a tutorial on the web to create a registry entry : To create a Registry entry, open command prompt ( Run->Cmd). Type the following command in the Window- REG ADD HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSafeBootMinimalMSIServer/VE/TREG_SZ/F/D %Service%. then "net start msiserver" to start the windows installer to install/uninstall app in safe mode. unfortunately it din workout i still get error 1084 “the service cannot be started in the safe mode”.
A colleage has experienced a trojan named 'Killreg'. The trojan has been cleaned but there now is a problem with Windows Help and Support (caused by the Trojan or not, I don't know). The Help and Support program runs but the Help and Support service is not running and not present in the Services list. Does anyone know how to initiate this service please.
From this afternoon, I've realized something as I attempt to run a Windows Live services installation. More specifically, I am installing Live Mail, Live Space, and Live Messenger and Sign-In Assistant. But when it attempts to download, the download always ends up half-way (e.g. Sign-In Assistant goes until 20%+ downloaded) and goes straight into installing, which failed as a result. I tried the whole afternoon fixing this, but the same thing happened
I've looked at it infrequently, and never could understand what I saw, but today there was something relatively new and scary:...Further info under help and support said an error was detected during a paging file operation. The word "disk" scared me, so I checked the entire Event Viewer, and found 25 of these errors, from Aug 1 2005 through Sep 3 2005. If this event was cataloged earlier, I don't know, because the Event Viewer only goes back to Aug 1. I checked System Restore for Aug 1, 2005 and found a couple of things; 1) an accidental MS "update" to NVIDIA GeForce4 MX driver 5.12 -- but we've had the 6.1.7.7 driver for a long time now. The 5.12 screws up the display resolution, big time. I reinstalled the 6.17; resolution is fine; but I'm wondering if this could have something to do with the Event 51 warning. Also, on that same date, something called Software Distribution Service 2.0 is listed three times, and I don't know why. I don't even know what it is. I've researched the web, and can't find anything that seems to apply -- other than potential for a hard drive crash. Just what I don't need. Meanwhile, the entire system is working extremely well; fast and smooth; no glitches or twitches that I can detect
While viewing video files (contained in folders with over a Gig of contents) this message pops up in a small window: Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and has to close. You can send an Error Report to Microsoft. Then things close down, but everything comes back, except the folder of files that was open before. Then if I go to my "Event Veiwer" under Application I get the 2 Error lines with "event ID 1000 and 1001.
Despite finding the microsoft areas where this upgrade is listed all links within the notes do not work for me despite using I.E. Many links do work but none that allow me to actually get to do an express download of SP2.
Just wondering if anyone knows why hijackthis reports many services as missing? When they are loaded and present (as far as I can tell) This is Windows XP x64

I recently started up my computer and it said: ' This application has failed to start because MSVCP60.dll was not found. Re-installing this application may fix this problem.' I have tried chkdsk /r and safe mode but nothing.
Task scheduler does not appear in the services list. I am logged in under the administrator account and am using Windows XP Professional. Every time I try to start the task scheduler in control panel -> scheduled tasks it says 'Unable to start'. When I try to view the properties of a scheduled task I get error: 0x80041315 (This is a picture of the error. I reinstalled Windows Internet Explorer 7 but it still does not appear in the services list. I also used System file checker but it didn't fix it either. I do not have Task Scheduler listed in the services list. I really don't want to reinstall windows xp...is there some way I can get the Task Scheduler working again? (Also I've selected the Notify of missed tasks option but that doesn't seem to work either)
I am running windows XP service pack 3. on a dell dimension 3000, I can not get auto updates and when I try to turn on (Background Intelligent Transfer Services) it comes back and says the file is missing, This seems to have started after the Microsoft 3.0 service pack update, My original disks are service pack1.a
My OS is win XP MCE 2005, recently re-installed following crash. Problem: Cannot access any MCE TV capabilities, as i get message from MCE settings: "Tuner card not found...." Can play DVD's however. OEM Tuner card is ATI Theater 550 Pro. Not recognized in device manager. Have downloaded & installed driver for this tuner. Have spent hours online looking for solution. Also, noticed I am missing both "Media Center Scheduler Service" & "Media Center Receiver Service" from my services directory, and think this may be related to problem. Any thoughts overall on how to fix, and specifically, how to restore both of these missing services files?
I have had the Fax services running fine on my computer before, however just recently I had to reinstall my printer drivers and for some reason the installed Fax also disappeared. In the Add Windows Components screen, the tick is now missing from Fax services. If I tick the box, it looks like it is installing the Fax services software, however on going back into the Add Windows Components screen the tick is still missing and I cannot install a Fax.
I have been fixing a computer with more spyware than you could imagine on it. Its all clean now , all trojans and spyware removed, however in the process of removing these nasties, the computer has now lost its ability to connect to the internet. Networks fine, all obvious things have been checked, firewall, proxies you name it. Is there a way to re-install the internet connectivity services and files?
On starting my computer there are 2 icons missing from my list. Why has this happened and how can i get them back?My recycle bin is empty so I am at a loss as to what to do.
There was recently a problem with my internet connection in my community as it was out for a day. When I was able to get back online, there are all sorts of problems with my McAfee (i.e. I all of a sudden have no virus protection and I can't reinstall it). Also, when I go to add/remove programs, there is nothing there. Other programs are still installed in my computer and the only one I seem to be having a problem with is the McAfee, but I can't even view a list of programs that are installed on my computer. What could be causing this problem? and How can I get my computer back to normal? Is this some sort of virus?I've tried restoring my computer to different dates, and it hasn't seemed to change anything. I'm running Windows XP operating system.
I have recently had to reinstall my PC from scratch. I bought a new WD Raptor 150GB as my main hard disk, my old 320GB Hard Disk that I used for my old install has been plugged into the second SATA port, and I have a 500GB Western Digital MyBook for extra storage and backup.Recently the new setup has been acting up worse than the old setup. These problems aren't regular but they occur in clumps -for example I would have to restart the system at least 4 times before I get a stable platformproblem includes the error message of General Host Services Has encountered an error etc along with the option to send an error report.
Sometimes its different programs that crash, including NOD 32, Media Center Receiver Service, CLI (which I think is something to do with my sound card) and other random programs including HMI, SVCHOST. When one or all of these programs crash one after the other, the entire system slows down and becomes practically inoperable. Invoking task manager doesn't help either as it takes a good 10 minutes to appear.
Unil this morning i could click on a little "up" arrow on the right side (not extreme right) of my taskbar to display a pop up list of my desktop icons. I could then click on the 1 i wanted. it was very convenient because i didn't have to close all my windows to see the icons. The arrow suddenly disappeared & everything became different & i don't know why.
The last windows update that I can see is KB 905474 and was downloaded by my automatic updates.I can see it when going to windows updates/view history. Trouble is, I cannot see it in my add/remove list. does auto updates only download security updates and I assume I dont have to do anything.
I am trying to use my ms home pushishing program and it says my wmf graphics filter is missing. I did a search as they recommened on my computer for the wmfimp32.fit file and there is none in my computer...where can i get this file to download back into my computer or what else can i do to be able to use my publishing program.
When I try to download a short video or the supposid missing file I get this message. C:DOCUME/`1OWNERLOCALS~1TEMPqrorw03.exe be as source file could not be read. I guess I really haven't the faintest idea what this is all about. I have to assume that I have a file missing.
I was recently cleaning my hard drive when I used the standard windows disk cleanup and cleared my files in my browser. Now when I try and download something through a link, windows downloader starts and then an error message comes up saying "Documents and Settingsxx xxLocal SettingsTemporary Internet FilesContent. IE55FV3XLWE [file name] is missing. There is no such folder in my temporary internet files folder yet I can't create or create in local settings and drag and drop. I can download if I save target as but would rather repair the problem.
