Machine Went For Toss After Symantec Client Remote Install
Oct 12, 2009
to start with I was using TeamViewer to remotely install symantec client 9.0 on my. Papa's laptop -winXP. The AV successfully installed and then the issue started when it was updating itself. all of a sudden the machine hanged .. never to recover! When hard booted the machine booted up but the start button nevr came and all the desktop apps were just small boxes! Recovery Steps that i took: I booted the machine in the safe mode and tried to uninstall the symantec but the windows installer does not run in safe mode !!
tried to follow a tutorial on the web to create a registry entry : To create a Registry entry, open command prompt ( Run->Cmd). Type the following command in the Window- REG ADD HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSafeBootMinimalMSIServer/VE/TREG_SZ/F/D %Service%. then "net start msiserver" to start the windows installer to install/uninstall app in safe mode. unfortunately it din workout i still get error 1084 “the service cannot be started in the safe mode”.

Are there any more sophisticated packages out there that can connect to standard Remote Desktop enabled Windows machine?I need to connect to several remote computers on a regular basis, and would like something that would remember my login settings for each one of them. The standard Remote Desktop Connection client that come with Windows 2000 only seems to remember the settings for *one* connection. (Or are there perhaps some call arguments that I could put into the shortcut, in order to define certain login parameters?)

I have been having an ongoing problem in being able to install programs (diskeeper and Symantec) after I have downloaded them. Their advice to me has been to double click the "Event Log" in my Services list and set it to automatic. I have just realized that the title, "Event Log" does not exist in my list and I think that may be my problem. Recently, I upgraded my Windows XP Pro from a pirated version by paying for and installing the Genuine Windows XP Pro version. I had then installed SP2. I wonder if in all of this I have lost the Event Log heading and if anyone can tell me how I can get it back.

Is there a way to redirect the Microphone connected to my Local Machine to the Remote Server (WinXP/Windows Server 2003), when using Remote Desktop.Bcoz my application which requires Microphone will be running on the
terminal server (win server 2003) and all users will be accessing the application after logging into the terminal server using remote desktop. I know that I can redirect the sound from terminal server to the local machine. But will the users be able to use their microphones in their local machines?

Several times, especially today, I will drop the mapped drive connection, and I am unable to remote desktop to the machine. I don't know where to start with this but my PC is running so slow. It takes a long time for the PC to load when it first turns on. I have alot of useless programs running in the backround and I have no clue what they are for or how to turn them off. Alot of times my computer has a hard time running 2 programs together like AOL and MS Word.I want to delete a bunch of useless programs ( other people use my computer in my household too) and I do not know where to start for that either, I do not want to accidentally get rid of what my computer needs to operate and I am about to toss this thing into the trash. (well, I am just really frustrated). Anyway my sister told me about this site and said how helpful everyone is, and that her computer is running so much better because of comming to this forum.

I've setup Windows 2003 fax services on a W2K3 server and shared the device. I've tested faxing from Word on my PC and it works fine. However, when other users try to install the fax client, the setup hangs asking for the fx* setup files. I've tried different XPSP2 CDs, copying the files to a local directory, making sure that the users have local admin rights (and even domain admin rights) but to no avail. The files are already in the system32 directory so in theory the setup doesn't even need to copy them. Even if I delete them, it doesn't work. Our corporate SMS team reckons that there isn't any policy which could
cause the problem.

With this activation process, you cannot have xp(RETAIL) on more than one machine. I would like to remove it from one machine and then install in another. MS tech support told me that this copy of xp cannot get a license for more than one machine. I wish I knew that before. I would then have put it on the machine that I want it on now. Can it be removed and then installed on another nachine? Still only one machine licensed.

Started the pc w/the XP Home SP2 cd in, and followed prompts to do a repair install. All was going well. Got to the point of it needing to restart the computer. After the Windows logo appeared, received STOP error 7E, with no driver mentioned. (1st variable if needed is 0x0000006). Turned machine off, restarted. Same thing. Tried again, this time trying Safe Mode. I get the message "Setup cannot continue in Safe Mode, Click OK to restart".

I am using Symantec Ghost Enterprise Edition 8.0 to create an image that I can use to clone about 100 computers. All the computers have the exact same hardware configuration. I have used SysPrep to erase the licensing so that the user can type the license number from the sticker on their PC, and their user name. The problem arises when some of the computers locks up after the restoration, and on the first boot. After pressing the Reset button, it boots up, and asks for the license agrrement
When you finish with the license agreement part of the boot process, it then asks some users about the VGA, and NIC drivers. The problem is that not all the users gets asked about the NIC, and VGA drivers. Some of the users do not get asked these driver questions, but the screen resolution changes. Please remember that all the hardware are exactly the same, and they all have the same BIOS and firmware version.

The title says it all! Basically I have a comp running XP pro and I want to be able to work locally on one user account, with some kind of remote access server running on another XP user account so that the remote account and the local account can be used simultaniously. I know that this cannot be done with XP Pro remote desktop and could be by Windows Server 2003 remote desktop, but i need an alternate solution to make this happen.

I'm looking in using either using Remote Assitance and/or Desktop in a help desk support environment. For example, if a user calls in asking for assistance with a application, or if we are in need of troubleshooting the machine, we would like to initate a remote assistance request that takes the end user out of the equation so we don't need to walk them through how to send a email/file request.

I have two different computers both running Windows XP professional. I am trying to connect to one remotely using the Remote Desktop Connection. I have enabled the remote computer for remote logins but for some reason I cannot connect with it. I get the error message that the client could not connect to the remote session. I have 50 other computers on this network all set up the same way and have never had a problem. Everything seems to be configured exactly the same. I can ping the remote computer.

Here is my problem. I am logged in to a machine via remote desktop and another user with admin rights logs in via remote desktop and logs me off because they assumed that I had forgotten to log off or whatever else. Is there any permission setting either in group policy or elsewhere that would prevent a user attempting to connect via remote desktop from logging off an already logged on user? The problem is that both users are and need to be Admins.
