part of security center. I did find anti spyware but no anti virus.
My PC has suffered a virus attack despite running up to date Norton, Spybot & MooSoft's 'The Cleaner' anti trojan along with XP firewall. Norton reported that it had found Spy Sheriff but could not remove it. A Spybot scan found & claimed to have removed Spy Sheriff but I was still getting spurious warning messages & the system kept trying to connect to 'Antispylab' web site. I also noticed that my Norton autoprotect had been disabled & would not allow me to re-enable. I downloaded the trial version of Kaspersky anti virus which said that it had found & removed 22 dangerous objects.

I restarted the computer (my catch-all trouble shooting method) and still did not get an icon when I inserted the USB drive. I also tried plugging in my iPod and got no icon. (Note: the flash drive and iPod function perfectly fine, it's just the "safely remove hardware' icon that's missing - annoying) Did I inadvertantly change some sort of settings. The computer is an HP PCm7250n running XP mediacenter edition, the flash drive in question is a SanDisk cruzer micro.

I looked in add/remove and found 3 things that are taking a lot of MB and wonder if they are needed or would hurt anything if I deleted them. Please give me your opinion on Python 2.2 and Python 2.2.1 I don't have a clue what they are for but they are taking up a whopping 22.71 MB a piece! I found yahoo install manager and compuserve also taking up a lot of MB and I don't have a clue what they are needed for either.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Symantec Ghost Enterprise Edition 8.0 to create an image that I can use to clone about 100 computers. All the computers have the exact same hardware configuration. I have used SysPrep to erase the licensing so that the user can type the license number from the sticker on their PC, and their user name. The problem arises when some of the computers locks up after the restoration, and on the first boot. After pressing the Reset button, it boots up, and asks for the license agrrement
When you finish with the license agreement part of the boot process, it then asks some users about the VGA, and NIC drivers. The problem is that not all the users gets asked about the NIC, and VGA drivers. Some of the users do not get asked these driver questions, but the screen resolution changes. Please remember that all the hardware are exactly the same, and they all have the same BIOS and firmware version.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Gateway with Windows XP Home Edition. So yesterday I tried to remove a virus and somehow removed some .exe files in C:windows folder. Now when I try to boot up the PC it asks me to start in safe mode or to log in normally. It will show the blue screen of death for half a second and then go back to the options where it asks me to choose Safe mode or Last known configuration. I am also able to hit F8 but anything I choose there will just restart the computer and take me back to those options. It is like a loop, no matter what option I choose, the PC will restart and nothing will happen. None of these options work and I don't think I will be able to fix the PC anymore (besides using the original windows CD and re-install Windows.)

View 8 Replies View RelatedA friend was being bombarded with pop-ups, so I ran two programs which I use on my own computer and have installed on many others; they are "Spybot" and "AdAware." He is running Windows XP Pro. This friend of mine does not go to porn or gaming sites (and I found no evidence that he did), or gambling sites, with the exception of one casino site that has never caused any problems for him
The first time I ran Spybot, it detected 249 problems but couldn't remove some because they were running at the time of the scan, and gave me a choice of running Spybot again the next time the computer was started. I chose yes and it found 197 problems this time and couldn't fix 30 of them. I chose yes again to run Spybot on the next boot, and this time it said that it could not fix 44 problems. I ran RegCleaner and it took out some files but I didn't count them. I then ran Norton WinDoctor which found and fixed eight problems. I followed this with a scan with AdAware, which found 1,083 problems!! It could not fix 235 of them and on the reboot it could not fix 177 of them. The next scan showed 168 problems and could not fix 60 of them on reboot. When I rebooted, a Welcome screen requiring a password for the Username "Owner" came up so I called the guy and asked him if he had ever used a password with this system, and he said no. Now I cannot get into his system at all!
