NT4 Event Log Services - System Log Is Full
Sep 4, 2006Dialog box with Event Log Services - System log is full.
It looks like the Disk is full and I can't find anything to remove until I talk to the user.
How do I address this message.

Install Symantec Download - Event Log Missing In Services List
Nov 19, 2006I have been having an ongoing problem in being able to install programs (diskeeper and Symantec) after I have downloaded them. Their advice to me has been to double click the "Event Log" in my Services list and set it to automatic. I have just realized that the title, "Event Log" does not exist in my list and I think that may be my problem. Recently, I upgraded my Windows XP Pro from a pirated version by paying for and installing the Genuine Windows XP Pro version. I had then installed SP2. I wonder if in all of this I have lost the Event Log heading and if anyone can tell me how I can get it back.

Event Viewer Warning Disk Event 51 - Hard Drive Crash
Sep 2, 2005I've looked at it infrequently, and never could understand what I saw, but today there was something relatively new and scary:...Further info under help and support said an error was detected during a paging file operation. The word "disk" scared me, so I checked the entire Event Viewer, and found 25 of these errors, from Aug 1 2005 through Sep 3 2005. If this event was cataloged earlier, I don't know, because the Event Viewer only goes back to Aug 1. I checked System Restore for Aug 1, 2005 and found a couple of things; 1) an accidental MS "update" to NVIDIA GeForce4 MX driver 5.12 -- but we've had the 6.1.7.7 driver for a long time now. The 5.12 screws up the display resolution, big time. I reinstalled the 6.17; resolution is fine; but I'm wondering if this could have something to do with the Event 51 warning. Also, on that same date, something called Software Distribution Service 2.0 is listed three times, and I don't know why. I don't even know what it is. I've researched the web, and can't find anything that seems to apply -- other than potential for a hard drive crash. Just what I don't need. Meanwhile, the entire system is working extremely well; fast and smooth; no glitches or twitches that I can detect

Jun 30, 2006While viewing video files (contained in folders with over a Gig of contents) this message pops up in a small window: Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and has to close. You can send an Error Report to Microsoft. Then things close down, but everything comes back, except the folder of files that was open before.Then if I go to my "Event Veiwer" under Application I get the 2 Error lines with "event ID 1000 and 1001.

Aug 14, 2005just rebuilt my computer and it seems to freeze about every hour while playing WoW online.I am using on board sound on an ASUS K8V-X with a Sempron 3000+.In checking my event logs, the application lists the following errors at corresponding times to the system freezes. By freez, I mean I can't alt tab out of the program or get the system to recognize any type of input. I have to do a hard reboot every time.

System Wont Recognize Full System Memory?
Feb 20, 2008i am having a problem with windows xp not reading my full system memory it is in the bios but windows just one day decided to stop reading a full one gig instead it decided to read 256 megs of ram i've replaced the memory sticks five times now and i know i havent baught that many bad sticks of memory is there any way i can get windows to read the memory since i know the memory has to be good since the bios is reading the full memory i've even the a f-disc and reformat thinking that would fix it

Aug 13, 2007I'm experiencing some strange behaviour with my XP SP2 PC. This morning I ran microsoft update, and saw that 2 security patches hadn't been installing for about a month. I decided to boot into safe mode to try and get them, but then it asked me to reactivate windows, which I did over the phone and now all fine on that front.
However, the problem I'm now having is that certain services aren't loading when XP loads. For example, the desktop appearance, along with windows explorer, for example, looks like it's win98, i.e. no fischer price look, just plain old grey boxes. Also, the network services aren't loading so I can't get online with my router. Another: when I try opening help and support, I get the following message: Windows cannot open Help and Support because a system service is not running. To fix this problem, start the service names 'Help and Support'.I'm not running in safe mode, and msconfig shows me as being in normal start up - load all drivers and services. In the services tab there are only 4 services running, which I'm pretty sure is seriously fewer than any machine running normally.
Unfortunately I can't run system restore: for some reason it's only got two saved in total, one that I did about 10 minutes ago, and another system one, about 15 minutes before that. Fortunately, NOD32 seems able to load, and a scan reveals no viruses. One more crucial thing: after I initially went to msconfig to arrange a safe boot on next boot (I have a usb keyboard so can't f8), I got a blue screen of death. So perhaps some boot files have become corrupted?

Oct 16, 2006In my "services" tab in my "system configuration utility" accessed via 'msconfig', I count about 75 entries all of them checked. Now, I know there a some of them that I need. example: "AVG Update Service". But there are many most, in fact that I haven't a clue about what they do or if I really need them. For example: "Cryptographic Services". What in hell is that? What I'd like to do is disable all the stuff that I don't really need, so that I'm not wasting resources. Apr 22, 2005when I reboot its extremely slow. Control Alt Delete shows 99% cpu use under processes. Not sure whats going on but been running find for a month at least haven't installed anything odd lately. Have a virus scanner and ad-ware installed.
edit * safe mode it loads fine no slow down.
edit 2 - If I set windows to not load system services in msconfig it fixes the problem. What options does that load?
Multiple Services Stopping And System Fails To Run
May 31, 2007We are running into a problem where multiple services on a Windows XP SP2 system fail to run. This is happening on different brands of systems at different customer locations, and so far has eluded our ability to detect a pattern.The symptom is a user complaining that an application fails to start or to work correctly. When we examine the system, a number of services have stopped or failed to start, with no reason given. We haven't systematically documented what services failed to start (the list changes when the screen is refreshed), but the list published at seems to be typical. The workaround I have used is to go through the services that are not running, set each of them to automatically restart on first and second failure (a tedious task), then restart the system. This has usually fixed the problem for that user, but doesn't explain what is causing the failure to begin with.

What are all the programs that are either stopped or running under the "services" tab? What would happen if I disabled them all? Do I need them? Jul 21, 2005I'm creating a .bat to run a backup job and it keeps failing. The event log says that no media was specified. The job works fine if I load it to the GUI. The 4mm DAT drive is specified in the GUI but that doesn't seem to carry over to the command line. In the end all I want is a full C: backup and the system state, overwriting whatever tape is in the drive. This is the command from the .bat

Full System Scan - AVG Spyware
May 18, 2007I just performed a full system scan on my computer using AVG Spyware. The process (doing nothing else and having no other programs running) took 35 minutes and scanned 245,000 + "objects". My question is simple, and may leave me looking foolish, but I have to ask...is it "normal" for a computer used by only 2 people for only 3 months to have that many "objects"?

Apr 14, 2008I am in big trouble. I have an hp pavilion a206x- and oldie. The kids gunked it up and it was so slow and running out of memory. Add/remove programs did not help. I decided to use the recovery disks and start with a clean slate. I backed up what we needed on cds and did a full recovery after doing the ctrl backspace option 6 to erase the hard drive. (oh, btw, it is XP) After all six disks, it freezes. I get to the screen that says "Recovery in progress." with Finalizing recovery highlighted in red on the left. Chatted with HP tech and there are no other recovery disks available because it is so old. I don't want to put any money into it. She says repair or retail OS purchase only options.
