It started to boot and then I got the error "C:WINDOWSsystem32configsystem is corrupt or missing" And then it rambles on about the recovery console, thats fine and dandy and all but the problem is that this machine was from compaq -_- so the recovery console was built into a secondary partition.

Dec 9, 2004I am having a problem with my computer. Recently, a friend went on my computer and installed some games. He might have done some other things cause ever since that day, any time I try to shut down windows, a message comes up telling me a program named "Sample" is not responding. I have to click the "End Now" box at the bottom and another identical message pops up. I click the button again and then everything shuts down normally. Does anyone have any clues on how to fix this problem?

Feb 3, 2006Tried to open Control Panel to uninstall and start using Office XP Small Business -- message: "error occurred while windows was working with...CoPM.cpl in System 32." Microsoft tech suport referred me to start/run appwiz, and remove Visual IP InSight -- but that file wasn't on the list of programs. I removed an un-named installer from the top of the list, thinking that was the culprit.Since then, Windows Installer dialog box pops up whenever I open Explorer or any other program. Microsoft tech support referred me to Article 261594 (Modify the Registry). Can now load Ofice 2000 without the installer popping up.

Feb 6, 2008I have a Dell Dimension C521, running windows xp media center edition, for the last two days when I start it up, I have a box on my desktop with a program path C:ProgramFilesDell with nothing in the box. How can I get rid of this error on my desktop??? I can click on the red X and it will go away, until I start it up again.

Oct 18, 2007The shortcut icons for frequently used programs that appear in the start menu below the Internet, Email, etc. shortcuts seem to have disappeared. I noticed it when I rebooted after having defragmented system files using PerfectDisk 8. I assumed the list just got cleared, but it seems no matter how many programs I open, no new shortcuts are ever created. The space just remains blank.I'm not sure if this has any bearing, but I'm also running WindowBlinds 6. I've had WindowBlinds for a long long time and have never run across this issue. Also disabling WB doesn't seem to fix anything.I'm sure the solution is something quite simple

Jun 22, 2006I have a Dell Latitude D610 Laptop, running on OEM Windows XP Pro SP2.I am a web developer, and naturally I would have development tools installed in my machine, including Microsoft Visual Studio (2003 and 2005), and Sql Server (2000 and 2005) and I have noticed an increase in my startup time. So i decided to set Sql Server to not automatically load its services on startup, so I can simply fire them up when I need them. As a result of this, i was able to decrease the startup time of my machine.However, lately although I haven't installed any other softwares, I noticed that again the startup time increased. I'm looking through the processes running in my machine as soon as I start up, and I found out that the processes are mostly "legitimate" processes (with the help of the Internet, as I've researched on each and every process). I have however found one process that ran by the SYSTEM, with the name WC72F4.exe. I have searched the internet and found no info on this. Even the mighty google doesn't have info on this. Anybody who can shed some light on this?

The reason I need to know is because I have 600 files spread out in many different folders, on several different hard drives and I want to make shortcuts to them and place the shortcuts into 1 folder. I don't fancy renaming 600 files just to remove the "Shortcut To" at the beginning of each filename.

Interesting to note, is that when "use the welcome screen" is selected, there is a black background to the logon, but when it's not selected (when classic mode is actually supposed to show), I get the logon with the default blue background. I've tried going into regedit and activated it manually, (used a 1 value), but I still get the classic logon screen.

Jun 12, 2009Running XP-Pr0-SP3 on a standalone home PC with 4GB RAM, 300 GB HD split 3- ways with OS on the 'C' drive, a 64- bit processor and TELUS high speed Internet.
Recently having replaced the mouse with a Logitech Wireless and not having had it start up, I read in the Logitech forum that a workaround would be to go to MSCONGIG and uncheck everything, re- start, then re-check the items I wanted to start up and re-start.
i then check all items in the startup tab and run a normal startup instead of selective.
I did this and now both Logitech and my Webshots program do not start at startup. Is there a workaround or possible change of permissions that I need to do to resolve?
Attachments Not Appearing In Outlook Express
Mar 15, 2007This PC in the office, has Outlook Express installed & set up. Here's the thing - on the Inbox view it shows almost every email as having attachments, has the little paperclip icon next to the sender's name and all. However, on only three or four of those emails are the attachments available - on the rest that show attachments in the folder view, nothing is shown when opened, and the 'save attachments' option in the File menu is greyed out - not available. Oct 24, 2007It has been about a week now and I have yet to solve a little problem with my taskbar.I've tried quite a few things to get tabs on the taskbar to show up when I open a folder or window, but all effort was in vain. I've looked in several other forums and felt that this place would provide the best answers/solutions. Reformatting is a last resort, and I want to avoid that. Can anyone help me?Problem: Nothing shows up on task bar when a folder/app/window is open. Only the Quicklaunch icons are there.e.g. Open firefox, nothing shows up on taskbar (I can right click taskbar choose different options etc - so it's not frozen) Opening Task manager shows firefox running on both the processes and application tab. So I can switch around that way. Alt+Tab also temporarily shows firefox and any other program/folder/window that is open as well. Minimizing the window causes it to disappear, so it looks like you haven't opened anything at all -but checking task manager shows the programs opened! Yet nothing shows up on the taskbar. (sort of funny since I ended up with literally 20+ windows of firefox on the alt-tab menu.
