I canno get the log in prompt to appear in any safe mode -and cannot restore settings back to when they were working. Need log in screen to appear to be able to get in and repair whatever issue is...what do I do?

View 8 Replies View RelatedThe welcome screen refuses to show, even though i've selected "use the welcome screen" under user accounts. Instead I get the classic logon screen. Interesting to note, is that when "use the welcome screen" is selected, there is a black background to the logon, but when it's not selected (when classic mode is actually supposed to show), I get the logon with the default blue background. I've tried going into regedit and activated it manually, (used a 1 value), but I still get the classic logon screen.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been unable to stop the Windows logon screen from appearing, I have checked my settings, they have it disabled, yet I still get the Welcome screen and have to click my user name to logon to Windows. Is there some kind of other way I can disable this, a registry edit or any thing?It didn't used to be this way and I have no idea why it changed. This started after installing XP SP2. I checked and did have to change the setting to stop the Welcome screen, but it doesn't work. My system used to boot with no need for clicking or logging on.

(I already had Passport anyway.)I now find that when I turn on the computer I have a screen "To begin, click your user name." I am the sole user / Administrator of a stand alone PC so I don't need this screen, how do I remove it /prevent it appearing since it is unnecessary?

I have this strange problem:I can't see my Bios loading .The screen is totaly black untill the windows' welcome screen , and then everything is back to normal.

I think some files are lost after I improperly shut down the laptop by hold down the power button. So when I start up computer, it stays at Window XP welcome screen, the bar keeps moving continuously, but it goes nowhere. It's a Toshiba Satellite and it comes with a recovery disc, but after it finish loading the disc, nothing happens but black screen and a mouse pointer. I also tried to reinstall everything from that recovery disc but can't.(also tried to hold down C key when laptop is powering up to reformat). When I try to go to safe mode, it shows blue screen then restart again after it stops loading the file. so anyone got any other ideas?it always stays at the welcome screen so i can't even login..

I'm currently having problem with my other computer. Today when i start my computer, it goes through the normal things the hard drives and stuff except for one thing different, it shows me 5 options on how to boot: start normally, safe and etc. I choose normal thinking that theres no problem with my computer. Once it goes to the window loading screen, after 5 seconds it restarts. Then it goes through the same thing over and over. I don't know what to do to fix this problem.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI did I make a ghost image of my xp system (7 gigs), and I want to use that image to install on 2 other systems.BUT,as you know xp takes an image your system so you can not put ehe hard drive into another ssystem and have it work. I install in on to a different system, and in took great(installed with on problems) but know as soon as I restart I can here it but it goes driectly to the safe mode,last best configuration,start window normal screen.

When i open any link with "open in new window" the new window is not full size screen window.Of course i dragged it by mouse many times and that should fix it later.It means it should be opened as it had been dragged,but that's never happened though i dragged it about a hundred time as a full screen size.What is the wrong here?

View 6 Replies View RelatedRunning XP-Pr0-SP3 on a standalone home PC with 4GB RAM, 300 GB HD split 3- ways with OS on the 'C' drive, a 64- bit processor and TELUS high speed Internet.
Recently having replaced the mouse with a Logitech Wireless and not having had it start up, I read in the Logitech forum that a workaround would be to go to MSCONGIG and uncheck everything, re- start, then re-check the items I wanted to start up and re-start.
i then check all items in the startup tab and run a normal startup instead of selective.
I did this and now both Logitech and my Webshots program do not start at startup. Is there a workaround or possible change of permissions that I need to do to resolve?
This PC in the office, has Outlook Express installed & set up. Here's the thing - on the Inbox view it shows almost every email as having attachments, has the little paperclip icon next to the sender's name and all. However, on only three or four of those emails are the attachments available - on the rest that show attachments in the folder view, nothing is shown when opened, and the 'save attachments' option in the File menu is greyed out - not available. Basically, to OE the attachment simply does not exist beyond the icon in the folder view
View 15 Replies View RelatedIt has been about a week now and I have yet to solve a little problem with my taskbar.I've tried quite a few things to get tabs on the taskbar to show up when I open a folder or window, but all effort was in vain. I've looked in several other forums and felt that this place would provide the best answers/solutions. Reformatting is a last resort, and I want to avoid that. Can anyone help me?Problem: Nothing shows up on task bar when a folder/app/window is open. Only the Quicklaunch icons are there.e.g. Open firefox, nothing shows up on taskbar (I can right click taskbar choose different options etc - so it's not frozen) Opening Task manager shows firefox running on both the processes and application tab. So I can switch around that way. Alt+Tab also temporarily shows firefox and any other program/folder/window that is open as well. Minimizing the window causes it to disappear, so it looks like you haven't opened anything at all -but checking task manager shows the programs opened! Yet nothing shows up on the taskbar. (sort of funny since I ended up with literally 20+ windows of firefox on the alt-tab menu.

This was an old computer that was used in a business and they all had passwords. It just comes up and says user is administrator and password is blank. If I hit enter it keeps going into windows. The fonts in tasks boxes, messenge boxes, BWlauncher, and even the words on the installation of FIrefox appear to me like blocks. I don't know how do change them back.
