when i log onto the computer it automaticly goes to the user admin which i don't want as all my work is on the other user which is also the computer admin. i put the log on screen on but it just goes stright to the admin one with out the log in screen, i tryed to delete it but it does not come up on the user part on control panel, only when i'am logged on, and it will not let me delete it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy laptop has developed a problem where the System Configuration Utility dialog box appears at every boot. I'm running XP Home edition. This occurs even though I've selected "Normal" startup. Also, I can check the box to not show this dialog box again, yet it continues to appear. After appearing, it will tell me that I must reboot for the changes to become effective.
I've run spyware detectors and antivirus scanners but have come up with nothing. I downloaded a program Startup Monitor to see if it would identify anything. The message that I get upon boot with it is: "The program MSConfig has registered the executable C:WindowsPCHealthHelpCtrBinariesMSConfig.exe/auto to run at system startup"
I have a Dell Dimension C521, running windows xp media center edition, for the last two days when I start it up, I have a box on my desktop with a program path C:ProgramFilesDell with nothing in the box. How can I get rid of this error on my desktop??? I can click on the red X and it will go away, until I start it up again.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows XP SP2 on a Dell Dimension XPS with 250GB hard drive (about 80GB free), 2GB RAM, a Maxtor 300GB USB external hard drive, and an HP Scanjet 5590. Ever since I installed the Maxtor drive and the HP scanner, the respective folders in "C:Program Files" open on the desktop every time I startup Windows. I find this annoying. Under File Explorer folder options view dialog box, I tried unchecking "Restore previous folder windows at logon," which did not help. I looked in my startup folder, but there is no shortcut to these folders there. I checked the registry under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" and "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" but I cannot seem to find a reference to these folders relating to startup. Perhaps I missed something. Should I be looking elsewhere (in the registry or somewhere else)?
View 6 Replies View Relatedfew programs began showing up in the System Tray that I didn't want to open.I went to msconfig/General and checked Selective Startup without knowing whether or not I needed to.Then, I went to Startup and deselected those programs.That worked for a while till I went back to misconfig and checked for Normal Startup Since the unwanted programs appeared again in my System Tray, I unchecked them in Normal Startup mode. But when I boot up my computer, I find that I am still in Selective Startup even though I checked for Normal.

I never had to do that before. Also, I am the only user on my pc.
When i go to certain sites such as http://www.saymail.sympatico.ca I get a popup window with a scrolldown list of previous user names I have typed in. How do I delete this list of user names?? In the windows help it says click on the name of the drop down list and click on delete, but the user names are still there, not deleted, Thanx, Win XP home edition, service pak 2

I just had my hard drive reformatted and am pleased with the results but now I have to select a user account before it continues to boot. There is only one user account, which makes this futile. Can I bypass this? There must be a setting somewhere.
View 5 Replies View RelatedLast Thursday i tried logging on to my computer.But when i got to the welcome screen it said to select the username i wanted to log on to....but there were none to choose!I did the CTRL+ALT+DEL to log on to the administrator,went under control panel....and again found no accounts.Then went to Computer Management under the User and Groups tree and again no users!I finally went to c:documents and settings and i found my 3 accts.But nothing ive tried has been able to get back the icons on the welcome screen.I need the help because i can only log on to 1 of my 2 accounts and i nedd some files and other things.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis has been an intermittent problem but becoming more constant. When I log in with my password (I am the only user on computer), if the hour glass doesn't come up immediately after pressing "enter", the computer then loads with the default profile settings instead of my own. If I immediately restart the computer (either after if is loaded or I shut down the computer while it is loading), I can log in & my user settings load properly. When this problem occurs, occasionally a window will pop-up after I enter my password at log-in, with something to the effect of user environment, personal settings unable to load due to insufficient memory. Also I do not know if this is related, but when I try to error check & is scheduled to start when the computer restarts, it usually states that it has been canceled after I have restarted the computer & doesn't go into a full scan. The reason I say that this might be related is that this is also an intermittent problem & seems to only occur when I'm having above problem (which is usually what prompts me to want to check scan). At other times, it seems to work okay. I have an HP dv8135 laptop, winXP media edition sp3, AMD 64, 2 GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon Xpress 200 (with updated driver), TrendMicroPro 2008, & Acronis True Image 11.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe welcome screen refuses to show, even though i've selected "use the welcome screen" under user accounts. Instead I get the classic logon screen. Interesting to note, is that when "use the welcome screen" is selected, there is a black background to the logon, but when it's not selected (when classic mode is actually supposed to show), I get the logon with the default blue background. I've tried going into regedit and activated it manually, (used a 1 value), but I still get the classic logon screen.

Recently having replaced the mouse with a Logitech Wireless and not having had it start up, I read in the Logitech forum that a workaround would be to go to MSCONGIG and uncheck everything, re- start, then re-check the items I wanted to start up and re-start.
i then check all items in the startup tab and run a normal startup instead of selective.
I did this and now both Logitech and my Webshots program do not start at startup. Is there a workaround or possible change of permissions that I need to do to resolve?
This PC in the office, has Outlook Express installed & set up. Here's the thing - on the Inbox view it shows almost every email as having attachments, has the little paperclip icon next to the sender's name and all. However, on only three or four of those emails are the attachments available - on the rest that show attachments in the folder view, nothing is shown when opened, and the 'save attachments' option in the File menu is greyed out - not available. Basically, to OE the attachment simply does not exist beyond the icon in the folder view
View 15 Replies View RelatedIt has been about a week now and I have yet to solve a little problem with my taskbar.I've tried quite a few things to get tabs on the taskbar to show up when I open a folder or window, but all effort was in vain. I've looked in several other forums and felt that this place would provide the best answers/solutions. Reformatting is a last resort, and I want to avoid that. Can anyone help me?Problem: Nothing shows up on task bar when a folder/app/window is open. Only the Quicklaunch icons are there.e.g. Open firefox, nothing shows up on taskbar (I can right click taskbar choose different options etc - so it's not frozen) Opening Task manager shows firefox running on both the processes and application tab. So I can switch around that way. Alt+Tab also temporarily shows firefox and any other program/folder/window that is open as well. Minimizing the window causes it to disappear, so it looks like you haven't opened anything at all -but checking task manager shows the programs opened! Yet nothing shows up on the taskbar. (sort of funny since I ended up with literally 20+ windows of firefox on the alt-tab menu.

This was an old computer that was used in a business and they all had passwords. It just comes up and says user is administrator and password is blank. If I hit enter it keeps going into windows. View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows XP with service pack 2. Every once in a while, a taskbar button will pop up for a fraction of a second, then dissapear. This never used to happen before, just started about a week ago. The button doesn't have any text on it, and the icon is just the generic program icon, so I have no idea what is doing this.The most annoying part is that while i'm playing a game in full screen mode, when the button pops up it will make my computer display the desktop and minimize the game.
