I have recently downloaded a program which insisted I also download the Passport software to function properly. (I already had Passport anyway.)I now find that when I turn on the computer I have a screen "To begin, click your user name." I am the sole user / Administrator of a stand alone PC so I don't need this screen, how do I remove it /prevent it appearing since it is unnecessary?
View 6 RepliesI have been unable to stop the Windows logon screen from appearing, I have checked my settings, they have it disabled, yet I still get the Welcome screen and have to click my user name to logon to Windows. Is there some kind of other way I can disable this, a registry edit or any thing?It didn't used to be this way and I have no idea why it changed. This started after installing XP SP2. I checked and did have to change the setting to stop the Welcome screen, but it doesn't work. My system used to boot with no need for clicking or logging on.

Once it gets to the user screen for user selection both keyboard and mouse stop working, its either they stop working or the computer freezes, i am not sure. Life still goes to the mouse as it still lights. The keyboad works fine in the bios but not at freezing point.

View 10 Replies View RelatedThe welcome screen refuses to show, even though i've selected "use the welcome screen" under user accounts. Instead I get the classic logon screen. Interesting to note, is that when "use the welcome screen" is selected, there is a black background to the logon, but when it's not selected (when classic mode is actually supposed to show), I get the logon with the default blue background. I've tried going into regedit and activated it manually, (used a 1 value), but I still get the classic logon screen.

On three of the user accounts when you right click on anything you receive: Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.
When I open a new account the same problem returns.
I was wondering if it is possible to make a specific user (such as Guest) and change it's user permissions. For instance, right now, Guest can do the usual stuff but not access any folders other than its own My Documents. In recently restoring my crashed machine, I noticed that when the machine was
idle, it would go back to the user login screen. I found this tedious as I
just wanted it to go to screen saver but stay within the user session. I ran
'control userpasswords2' and de-clicked 'Users must enter a user name and
password to use this computer.' (It's a home computer so not worried). Now
when I reboot, it brings up a Windows login for Administrator and says,
"Unable to log you on because of an account restriction." I can bypass that
and log in as Owner or anybody else so it's more cosmetic than anything else.Question - who is this "Administrator?" The account doesn't show up under
User Accounts. 'Owner' is the Administrator. Do I care about this account
(which appears to be hidden? Should I allow it to log in under the covers? If
so, do I have to re-click 'Users must enter a user name and password, etc."

When I start the computer, it asks if for the choice of Safe Mode, w/ Networking, w/Command Prompt or Normally.
I've tried them all and if I try it normally, it won't get past the XP loading screen. It's loading and then it flashes a blue screen for a second and then restarts the computer again.
I tried pressing F8 at boot and selected 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' and this is what I get

I have seen a similar problem posted previously on this forum. But after reading it i think this is a different problem, so, here goes: I recently bought a new graphic card: Radeon all-in-wonder x1800xl. Installed it on a clean system (did a reformat before i installed). The problem occurs after usually 30-60 minutes of gaming (so far with oblivion, black & white 2). The game freezes for about 30 sec and then goes into blue-screen mode.
The message is as follows:
Kernel-Data-inpage-error stop error screen
then there are a lot of numbers etc.
I have sometimes noticed a slight change in fan noise prior to freeze (speeding up)
After reebot everything's back to normal.........
I got a pretty serious problem i just got done reformating tonight and i goto get service pack 2 and i install it it says restart when its doen so i do and i get You receive a "Stop: c0000135" and "winsrv was not found" error message everytime i try to boot up ive tried last known good config and safe mode all of them come up with the same message the only thing i havent tried is chkdsk but i dont think that will do anything.
View 1 Replies View RelatedComputer boots up normally and everything runs fine until I try to right click on a file or folder, anywhere on the drive. The first time I do it I get the context menu like I am supposed to get. the next time I click on a file or folder the screen goes blank for a half a second and then comes back on and has to reload the programs in my systray. I have already run my nortons AV and it finds nothing. Can't complete a scan from trend micro but it doesn't say it found anything (hangs prior to summary page). pandas active scan finds nothing. Adware finds nothing. Also if I highlight a folder or file and push the delete key, have the same results. Only deletes every other time the key is pushed.

I downloaded the microsoft startup disks and even booting with all of them, when I type r for the recovery console it takes me right to the same blue screen. From what I've read it seems like chkdsk might fix things but I cannot get a command prompt. Perhaps the Maxtor harddrive is failing and I downloaded Seagate diagnostics for DOS because their windows version isn't going to help me since I can't start that. I booted off the disk and get a screen full of mostly general info but then it tells me the command interpreter is not found and wants me to give it the full path for command.com. It can't recognize anything I try to type here but I don't know what syntax to even use here. If I can come up with an ASR disk from another XP Pro PC, I'm wondering would running the automated system restore found on the first microsoft disk be an option? Is there any other way to get to run chkdsk because I can't even get into recovery console?

I had to reboot in safe mode and uninstall SP3 to get back to normal, which is Service Pack 2. The PC is an HP Compaq SR1520NX with 1GB Ram and 160GB HD with plenty of room. The only hardware I had a bit of trouble with was an Nvidia AGP card which they helped me with updating the driver several months ago. I don't seem to have any problems otherwise with it. Also, I installed a Pinacle USB TV
Tuner. I've had some problems getting it to recognize the tuner occasionally. Sometimes when I unplug it and re-plug it, it works.
How can I tell (from the error code) what is causing the stop screen?
It happens typing OUTLOOK messages or messages on online forums. I'll be typing and suddenly everything freezes; but I keep on typing and about 5-8 seconds later the characters suddenly catch up.Seems this began after a recent Windows XP update, but I don't know. I've experienced it on my laptop as well, but since some of the same software is installed, could be that. I have VCom's Fix-It 6, but don't know whether that could be the problem or not. Whenever I go to turn it off it doesn't respond, so you have to keep going to start-turn off-turn off over and over again. Either that happens or when I try to turn it off I get the 'End Now' program box coming up with something about ending ccAp, the odd thing is that yesterday it shut down without a problem, which is the first time in a few days that it's done that, and today it's gone funny again! i installed a new printer hp laserjet 4015 from the installation cd. previously 2015 version was installed. the installation went ok and the printing was also ok. system was shutdown normally. the next work day the system rebooted after the login was entered. this was solved by choosing 'last know good configuration' option of startup. however on re starting the same issued erupts. the system xp sp2 boots only when the last know good config option is chosen. the blue screen when opted for shows this error stop: 0x00000024 (0x001902fe, 0xf7a76854, 0xf7a76650, 0xa2c83692)
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been having some issues with the DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL_TO_ZERO (0x000000d1) as well as IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0x0000000A)and STOP: 0x1000008e and 0x1000007f.I'm crashing only while playing games. The crashes seem to occur more often if I'm playing a game while running something else such as streaming a podcast. The crashes are also occuring with greater frequency with each day that passes. I reformatted after these started happening, and i replaced my RAM as well, as that seemed the most likely culprit.
