Um.. I think this could go here. Well i just partitioned my hard drive and i seperated it by music, programs, etc. What im trying to do is get all my programs to use the seperate partition (E) instead of C:. I just wanted to know how to do this.
View 1 RepliesIt is frustrating having every program automatically install to program files, including minor things like audio attachment. I know I'll end up with tons and tons of folders in program files. Beyond that, I can't access program files from the other computers on the network. Is there a good way to reorganize/move files to my C drive in a way that would be efficient and wouldn't require reinstalling every single program in a different place?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have installed 2 different operating systems (xp and vista) on my hard drive on seperate partitions without flagging 1 of them to boot (aka it doesnt boot at all.) I want to completely format the hole thing and just put xp on the 1 hard drive with no partitions.
My problem is that my computers CD drive has broken and it does not have a floppy drive, I want to know if theres any way i can boot a program from a USB flash drive to completely format both partitions so i can install xp (I already know how to boot xp off a USB flash drive.
I have been using Add/Remove icon in Control Panel to remove programs. Although the Win2k Pro is running fine ,the icon of Add/Remove Program is not opening the next window to remove the programs.
I'm using Win XP and, using the built in Zip feature,have zipped up 14 files that include one .exe file and one .bas file.When I try to Extract All files it extracts all except these two files.It says that the files have been blocked to protect the computer, then I can click on a link to find out how to unblock the files but the instructions to do so don't make sense.The instructions tell you to save the file, then right click/properties/unblock, but I can't see how you can save a file if it hasn't been unzipped.How can I stop the .exe and .bas files from being blocked
View 6 Replies View RelatedI downloaded a program from Ebay and after installing it I noticed it didn't have a uninstall. I used my add & remove program to uninstall the program but not all of it got uninstalled. I deleted the folder and then did a search in my registry for anything with refernce to the programs name "Ebay's Blackthorne" and deleted all entries with that name.Every time I reboot windows tries to install something for Blackthorne and I have to keep cancelling it out.

Then I tried right clicking on a folder/file, selecting "Properties", pushing the "Advanced" button,I then checked "Compress contents to save disk space",and the folder and its contents turned blue but the size of the files,seeming, hadn't changed. Have the files actually been compressed? Should I get an external ZIP program? If so can you recommend a program?

We are sorry for the inconvenience. " On all other accounts, the program works normally. It only doesn't work on the Guest account.

I immediately ran a scan using AVG, but in my impatience and worry over getting this infection I googled for information and found instructions at this web site. So I mistakenly tried to follow them. Unfortunately I must have made an error in there somewhere because now I?m having problems opening program files. AVG scrubbed the virus but now I cannot open program files. Either the program cannot be found or I get the ?Open With? pop up menu. I?ve tried to run the WMI diagnostic but can?t get that to work either. Is this fixable?

I have old backup of favorites (bunch of *.lnk files) from Internet Explorer that i had on cd and forgot about it. Then i formated my pc and had to start over collecting them.
Now after year i find out my old favs was on backup cd and i want to merge my old favorites with my current ones, the problem is there is about 100 links in old folder and about 200 links in current folder and many of them lead to same sites, i dont wanna have duplicates and i dont wanna sort them manually.
Is there prog that can copy file from one folder to another, checking if each file from source folder is not present in destination folder (and subfolders) under different name (by checking size or crc or md5 whatever)?
Or prog that can check which of files from source folder (without subfolders) are same as files in destination folder (without subfolders) and mark them to delete or move or smooth
I recently figured out that some kind of virus is attached to my harddrive that is not picked up by any detection program. The files end in .exe and when using task manager, I delete the file and it generates a new file name with the same extention repeatedly. The CPU usage stays at 100% making it impossible for me to navigate the internet and play on line games. I did a file search, deleted the known files and rechecked task manager. They were still there. If I sit and delete them each time I turn on my computer it
takes me considerable amount of time and even then I may not get them all. I don't know what else to try to get my computer running better without a total reboot

Make sure the disk is not full or write protected.I have XP home edition with a 3 partitioned hard drive. C:for Operating system, E:for software install and F: for data. The only software installed on C: partition is Kaspersky Anti-virus.I have booted up in safe mode to delete files but i do not want to do this all the time. Whenever you try to open up a program, it will either say "(Program name).exe" is missing" but when you go find the .exe file it is there. Or a new window will pop up asking what you want to open the program with. he doesn't know what files they were. Ive tried system restore, and restoring files in the recycle bin.

Whenever I startup my computer C:Program Files opens on its own. I've seen other posts where others have a similar situation with the My Documents folder opening. I have tried the methods for correcting that issue but nothing has worked so far.
