End Program - Hung Up And Not Responding

Dec 12, 2004

I need to use the "control-alt-delete" to end a program that is hung-up and not responding and I then get the dialog box asking me if I want to send a message to Microsoft telling them about the problem. First of all, is there really any reason to send this message, and if not, how can I prevent this dialog box from showing up again?

Get A Box That Pops Up And Says Program Not Responding

Dec 8, 2004

When shutting down my computer, I get a box that pops up and says program not responding C:documents/settings (that's the most I can see.. I can't see the whole path name). When I click on the end now, the error goes away and the computer shuts down properly. I looked in the task manager to see if anything was running and I didn't see anything and all programs look to be shut down before I tried to shut the computer down. I have Windows XP and I don't understand why something in C:documents/setting would be doing this.

Program Not Responding / Hangs Up

Mar 15, 2007

I have a three month old HP Pavilion a1624 , 250GB HD and 1GB memory, with WinXP Media Center Edition 2005, with ZAPro, NAV 2007 and use Firefox 2.0 (I get the same problem using Firefox and IE6). I connect to the internet through a wireless network to cable modem. When surfing internet sites things go good for a while then it hangs up. When I click a shortcut or type in a url it starts to go then stops. The active browser icon turns back to just a pointer and when I do the ALT-CTRL-DEL, the task manager indicates, in two separate lines entries, that the program is not responding. I select End Task and at that point I can't connect to any site. I reboot and everything goes normal for a while then, boom, the same thing happens. This happens about every hour or so of use. I have tried running an ethernet cable directly from my PC to the router, but still have the problem. Other PCs on the wireless network have no problem.

Any comments on this. Could it be XP.I had some problems with Internet Explorer 7 at first but after some experience with it I'm satisfied with it.

Program Named Sample Is Not Responding

Dec 9, 2004

I am having a problem with my computer. Recently, a friend went on my computer and installed some games. He might have done some other things cause ever since that day, any time I try to shut down windows, a message comes up telling me a program named "Sample" is not responding. I have to click the "End Now" box at the bottom and another identical message pops up. I click the button again and then everything shuts down normally. Does anyone have any clues on how to fix this problem?

Program Not Responding Apparently Frozen

Dec 16, 2005

I recently used CDBurnerXP Pro 3 to write an iso image on the HDD. The progress bar jumped to something like 27% and was apparently frozen.Thinking something was wrong, I tried to terminate the program by ctrl+alt+del and the window opened up with the status message "not responding". But the "end task" refused to terminate the CDBurnerXP...The HDD lamp was glowing. The final observation was that the iso image was successfully written.I have repeated the process and my observation on 2 different computers is the same - the progress window jumps to some %age completed and freezes, CDBurnerXP is writing the image to the HDD, but the status window shows the program "not responding".

Kill A Not Responding Program / Can't Even Re-start

Jul 25, 2005

Sometimes when a program is not responding, I try to close it, but it just can't. I hit ctrl-alt-del and try to close it using the task manager, wait for a long time, and I see it is still there. I can't even re-start the windows because it is stop at the freezed program. I need to hard start the computer in order to get away of it.Sometimes even a program can be killed, some of the icons in the system tray is gone. Is it something wrong with the Windows XP? or is it normal?

Shutdown Problem /This Program Is Not Responding

Feb 5, 2005

Occasionally, I will go through the Shutdown procedure and, not wanting to wait the time it takes to be sure it actually shuts down, I will walk away only to find it still on hours later with a message on the screen "This Program is not Responding", with an available "End Now" button.Sometimes, it is more than just one program. I'll click on the End Now button and another will pop up within a fraction of a second or a few seconds with the same message. Is there a utility that will shut down Windows and/or give an end-now answer to these monolog boxes? The programs that are giving me these problems are too valuable to my work and too valuable to change--and in some cases cannot be replaced. All are designed for Windows 2000 or later and the problem happens on Windows 2000, Windows XP Home and Windows XP Pro on multiple desktop machines and my new Compaq laptop.

Lots Of Errors : Random Program Crashes

Oct 20, 2005

Windows Installation : Various files cannot be copied and/or not copied correctly. Giving blue screen of [enter] retry, [esc] skip or F3 to abort installation. Files constantly failing to copy : cyycoins or something, lots of .chm files, too many to mention. Curious thing is, same problems for both optical drives and both HDDs, varying both for many installations. Eventually I held down [enter] and the files went in, well some didn't but Windows booted fine.

Warhammer Dawn of War : Winter Assault. wh40k.cab is corrupt. Changed optical drives during installtion, installed fine. Could be hardware issue with my cdrom, Same game, when playing will crash to desktop. No error message sometimes, no indication of crash (no freezing or warning sounds or stuttering, just flat out BOOM, .exe gone. Sometimes error message appears to send error report, sometimes doesn't. Occurs while under load
I thought this could again be CDROM issue, with the copy protection not keeping the game running because disc wasnt read right.

Mozilla Firefox : Dunno really. Loaded it up to access webpage. Some survey appeared, then program locks up for maybe 10 seconds then crashes with firefox.exe has encountered error Windows built in message appears. Firefox is unable to load up again due to missing/corrupted .dll file error. Cannot page_read or something. I forget the whole error message. Guess coulda been important to save it to post here.

Whole system reboot. Idle one time, machine just goes down, then starts up again. Flat reboot. Didnt touch any buttons, then once in Windows 'recovered from serious error' message appears. Tells me after sending report its a device driver issue. Changed My Computer options to give the Blue Screen of Death so that the driver is named, nothing, just page_file_read or errors along those lines I know nothing about.

Don't know what is wrong. Hardware issue could be Optical Drive. But then again I have 2 drives, and the errors ocur no matter which one I use, same with the Hard Disks. I'm stumped. Its quite a huge issue. I have nothing on the drives, I backed all my stuff up before formatting after starting to get errors 1-4. I got these errors before format and immediately after. So would indicate Hardware issue would it not Can it be a BIOS problem? Or wiring, neither of which i have altered or been brave enough to look at.

Several .dll Errors In IE And Mozilla, Several Blue Screens, And Many Program Crashes

Mar 25, 2005

Ever since I'd built my computer, I have been getting errors in internet explorer. These would pop up at completely random intervals (although it seemed to be more often when I loaded intensive pages). They would take the guise of problems that are all attributed to many things. mshtml.dll, ntdll.dll, wininet.dll, and a few other .dll files have been the error causing agents in the "more info" on the error popup. I have also had many blue screen errors such as bad pool caller, irql not less or equal, and page fault in_nonpaged area, to name a few
When I started getting these errors, I tried to look them up, but I found several different reasons for errors. Many errors had different problems such as various installed components, leading my to believe that it was a RAM error. I bought a PNY stick at BB and swapped it. Still got the errors. I then returned the PNY stick and bought an ULTRA X-Connect PSU. I tested it again, and I still got the same errors. Then, a new devvelopment occurred. I tried doing a repair install, but it errored halfway through, saying that a certain file could not be copied
