I was wondering what this folder (ACW, in Program Files) is for as I've never seen it before and it suddenly showed up as I searched through my program files. Is it some sort of malicious software? I noticed there was nothing contained within the folder even with hidden files visible.
Firefox just updated and wants me to install the latest Adobe Flash Player, which I did a few days ago. This one gives instructions about different screens asking to allow some add-ons. I have no idea what they are. Do I need them or can I just keep using the updated Firefox like I've been doing?
I know this question is ambiguous in nature given the subject matter.I know what the search feature does as it pertains for looking for files. However, in the " file properties "additional information can be added to the file:Title, Subject, Author, Category, Keywords and Comments.Does windows search look within these file properties based on what is the nature of the search words are?I'm just trying to create more detailed info about the files so that what when I do a search for a specific info much in the same manner as doing a search on the web.
I was looking in my task manager and I have 40 processes running. Out of those 40, the process with the highest use of CPU is the 'System Idle Process' which hovers around the 95-100 range. What is it, and do I need it running?
This mandatory critical update was released today(April 25, 2006) at the Windows Updates site.Users of illegal or pirated copies of Windows XP - Microsoft announced that on Tuesday it will make Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) more bothersome than ever. A new update for WGA is now on the Windows Update website as a mandatory update. Once installed, your copy of Windows will be checked for validity.
If your Windows installation is found not to be genuine, Windows will display a message telling you that “This copy of Windows is not genuine.” Windows will check and display messages on every boot as well as once an hour (or so). The new WGA tool also puts an icon in your system tray if your copy of Windows is not genuine.

Recently my father downloaded a Windows update thing that included the newest version of Windows Media Player, and since then I have had trouble getting my preferred media player to work with files. I can still open up it up and select a file, but it is impossible to add it to the "Open with" list, which is annoying. No error messages pop up or anything, but when I go to Browse in the "Open with" window and select the program, it just reverts to the (unchanged) "Open with" window.
recently I have received three files via the internet. I download and save them into my folder, but then cannot open them, the message tells me to open from a program and I am using internet explorer to do this, but when I click on the files they won't let me open them - what am I doing wrong?

It is frustrating having every program automatically install to program files, including minor things like audio attachment. I know I'll end up with tons and tons of folders in program files. Beyond that, I can't access program files from the other computers on the network. Is there a good way to reorganize/move files to my C drive in a way that would be efficient and wouldn't require reinstalling every single program in a different place?
Um.. I think this could go here. Well i just partitioned my hard drive and i seperated it by music, programs, etc. What im trying to do is get all my programs to use the seperate partition (E) instead of C:. I just wanted to know how to do this.
Is this something I should try through Fdisc or should I buy Partition Commander? I am learning a lot but don't understand all the ins and outs of the articles I have read concerning partitioning, yet.
I'm using Win XP and, using the built in Zip feature, have zipped up 14 files that include one .exe file and one .bas file. When I try to Extract All files it extracts all except these two files. It says that the files have been blocked to protect the computer, then I can click on a link to find out how to unblock the files but the instructions to do so don't make sense. The instructions tell you to save the file, then right click/properties/unblock, but I can't see how you can save a file if it hasn't been unzipped. How can I stop the .exe and .bas files from being blocked
I recently started using DVD Decrypter to rip some of my DVD's and then convert them to play on my Sony Playstation Portable (using PSP video 9) And it's working great. Now that I know how to do this, (rip tracks off of DVD'S) I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what the BEST program is, or what people use, to use those .vob files and turn them into .AVI files or .MPEG files, so that I can carry them with me on my laptop.
i was trying to install an application from its installer. And i accidentally went to "open with" and selected another program, thus the installer package always opens in the other progam and does not run. I was wondering if there is a way to undo this process
i am using WXP SP2 and i activated its Fax application. When i configured my Fax application i wrote ' Fax ' for IDST and ' Fax ' for IDSR. Was i right or wrong?
My computer is now set to display all my pictures on my computer from an old mustek software. I want to change the default to another software which I have on my computer. I have tried the following to change the default program
I have a file that I have no use for which I would like to delete. It is stored in an out of the way directory (not system directory of any sort) and I found it when I was doing some housekeeping. The name of the file is PKUNZIP.EXE and it would have been copied onto this computer a couple years ago with some other files. Now I know what pkunzip is, but xp pro this file certainly is not required. Alas when I try to delete it I get this: Error Deleting File or Folder Cannot delete PKUNZIP: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again. So I'm pretty determined to get rid of this guy, not because it's a problem, but because it's made me mad hehe. So I tried to boot up with a 98 boot disk and delete from DOS. No go, 98 boot wont recognize NTFS.
I have xp, on my computer,I went onto the web,and downloaded sonic record now65 freeware into a folder in my documents, everytime I go to open it to use it to copy a dvd ,a window opens up saying that its all ready install, do I want to reinstall it, it won't open to enable me to use it to copy a dvd
Can anyone explain why this happens? When I go to move certain .avi movie files on my hard drive from one directory to another, I get an error message that says: Error Moving File, It is being used by another person or program. The problem is, I don't know of any other programs using it. All my media players are closed. How can I find out what process is using it? This computer has only 1 log in (me) so it is not another person.

I'm running Windows XP and I have been having trouble deleting a file on my C drive. I get the message "Cannot delete It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." This is the file path C:SEVEN_4X3LB_SIDE_B.ISO I have never had so much trouble with a file before. I searched many places on the web for a solution, have found many which have helped other people but not in my case.
