Whenever I startup my computer C:Program Files opens on its own. I've seen other posts where others have a similar situation with the My Documents folder opening. I have tried the methods for correcting that issue but nothing has worked so far.

I immediately ran a scan using AVG, but in my impatience and worry over getting this infection I googled for information and found instructions at this web site. So I mistakenly tried to follow them. Unfortunately I must have made an error in there somewhere because now I?m having problems opening program files. AVG scrubbed the virus but now I cannot open program files. Either the program cannot be found or I get the ?Open With? pop up menu. I?ve tried to run the WMI diagnostic but can?t get that to work either. Is this fixable?

Whenever you try to open up a program, it will either say "(Program name).exe" is missing" but when you go find the .exe file it is there. Or a new window will pop up asking what you want to open the program with. he doesn't know what files they were. Ive tried system restore, and restoring files in the recycle bin.

It will however load if I am already in the program which usually opens it. Beside them it says SIG file, which I have no idea what that means. Also, it is just a blank box beside the file name (in my documents list) when usually there is a mini icon showing which program will work to open it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an issue with my new clean install on XP. Every time I boot, C:Program Files keps opening. Here is the stuff I have tried so far. I looked in msconfig, the startup folder and in Startup on my programs list and it doesn't show up in any of these places. It isn't a new program, so it's not because I installed it recently. Here is HiJack This log for reference. I dont have clue what's to look in this. But may be it will help you. Similarly I have copy-pasted contents from autoexec.bat,win.ini and sys.ini for debugging. You may notice that there is TaskMgr link in startup. But its just one of my app I need on startup in my taskbar. It startup as minimized and it has setting "Hide on Minimized" checked in TaskManager. So It remains in taskbar always.

I have a Dell Dimension C521, running windows xp media center edition, for the last two days when I start it up, I have a box on my desktop with a program path C:ProgramFilesDell with nothing in the box. 1.I cannot open the "Properties " Dialog box in the "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel. In Control Panel, I right-click "Add/Remove Programs" to open the "Properties" Dialog box. But, when I right-click, all that appears is "Open" and "Create Shortcut." The same goes for all the programs in the Control Panel, except a handful may display a 3rd option..."Explore." However, I can click to "Open" any of the programs in the Control Panel. My problem in this case is the "Properties "dialog box is not available. There must be a way to restore this command option.

I can still open up it up and select a file, but it is impossible to add it to the "Open with" list, which is annoying. No error messages pop up or anything, but when I go to Browse in the "Open with" window and select the program, it just reverts to the (unchanged) "Open with" window.

I can't right click on a jpg and set it as background and it wont detect any of the wallpapers i have in my pictures folder like it used to. The only wallpapers it will use are the default windows wallpapers or anything i set to wallpaper by right clicking on an image online. As for my other problem, I can't get files to open with the correct program. I know i can set a file type to always open with a certain prgram, but that isnt working. Example: I have a .max file which should open in 3ds max. Instead it opens in nothing and stay a blank file with no icon. I can still open it by opening up the program and opening it from there, but it's annoying. My winamp play lists also all seem to want to open in windows media player no matter how many time i tell them to always open in winamp.

I am currently using the target, "%SystemRoot%explorer.exe /n, /e, C:Program FilesAgent" which expands Program Files only to the extent that Agent is highlighted and expanded. How can I get it to open with all program files visible in the left pane? I must need another switch but don't know what it is or where to put it in the sequence.

It does not matter whether I right click on a certain file and choose open with or if I use the tools option in the folder menu. This is what happens. I want to open a .jpg file with picassa photo viewer. I right click the .jpg file and choose open with. I then click browse to locate the .exe file that will open it. Well once I click it I get sent back to the open with window and nothing has changed. The .jpg file will not open with any program that can open it and it will not add the .exe file into the window. This is a bit frustrating as I cannot change what opens certain windows files by default. This goes for any type of file I try to open with any program.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using Win XP and, using the built in Zip feature,have zipped up 14 files that include one .exe file and one .bas file.When I try to Extract All files it extracts all except these two files.It says that the files have been blocked to protect the computer, then I can click on a link to find out how to unblock the files but the instructions to do so don't make sense.The instructions tell you to save the file, then right click/properties/unblock, but I can't see how you can save a file if it hasn't been unzipped.How can I stop the .exe and .bas files from being blocked

I wrote another forum and got some advice, and did some studying, and for some I was able to take back permissions and found what looked like a phony user account hidden way down in Documents and Settings.
Today I found close to 2/3 of my files would not display, of the types, htm and html, jpg, png, and doc files. I went to check permissions and the security tab was not under Properties.
I have tried everything: I have re-installed Windows, I have run every virus and adware and spyware scan and repair known, and have constantly cleaned the registry and used HiJack this which did show two programs called Voodoo and Banshee which were not mine.
How can I start a program on Windows startup and set the window of the programm always on top. That means that no other program which starts as well on startup, can set his window activ. Just my program should always be on top.Is that possible with a VBScript?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dimension 4700 and I was recently going through my add/remove programs list trying to clean up and get rid of some programs I didn't use anymore(like google earth, partypoker, etc) and I came across Yahoo Download Manager and figured I didn't need it and right when I clicked remove my computer shuts down, I am not sure how anything in this would have that kind of effect on my computer from removing, or if it was just a coincidence. I go to reboot it and get the blue screen error message Stop C000021a and below gives me another error- f 0xc0000135.
