When i browse through my c drive and open program files i get an Error saying Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. The error signature says:

It doesnt happen in any other folders. I have searched the web but no one seems to have the same problem
I would like to have windows explorer open with all drives showing and with c:Program Files fully expanded (as if the + next to Program Files were clicked) in the left pane. I am currently using the target, "%SystemRoot%explorer.exe /n, /e, C:Program FilesAgent" which expands Program Files only to the extent that Agent is highlighted and expanded. How can I get it to open with all program files visible in the left pane? I must need another switch but don't know what it is or where to put it in the sequence.

Every time i try to run any program to help, it says Windows Explorer is not responding, furthermore, i cannot access the internet. When i try to access the network connections, it says to make sure Network Connections is running. Also, i just deleted a trojan, i cannot recall the name, but AVG couldnt delete it. I saw it was located in the temp internet files folder, so i just cleared it. It also said there was a change in kernel32, but i've been told thats rather common.

Ive researched quite a bit in my spare time in the past two days and found that it could be related to ntdll.dll. But in my research I haven't really found any solutions, yet it almost seems like a common/uncommon problem.
I have done a few system restores all of which were unable to return to a previous state. I am up to date on the latest virus/spyware/adware definitions and ran scans using: Norton Internet Security 2007, Spy Sweeper, AdAware, Spybot Search & Destroy and Stinger......
My OS is Windows XP and the message I get is "Windows Explorer has encountered an problem and must shut down. Sorry for the inconvienence."
This also happens when I right-click on the desktop, but after that message, I get a similar one from Dr. Postmortem Debugger (or something like that) and the computer freezes.

My internet explorer just started crashing every time i open it, and also the kazaa lite prog crashes the same way. i haven't tried any other programs, but this is what hijackthis says:

View 5 Replies View RelatedOkay so it seems that whenever i try to handle a big file. Or something that seems to "stress" my hard drive. my Explorer goes crazy. First i get an error like this:I would of took a screenshot but when trying to paste the print screen it just says Error copying to clipboard. Asif it should read something there but it doesnt. Even the "OK" Button doesnt say anything but i just press it anyway.All text dissapears from my icons and all buttons and tabs and stuff. I also cannot start any program.. Starting task manager gives taskmgr.exe - Application Error : The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000012d). Click on OK to terminate the application.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am having some major issues with multimedia files, namely if I try to play any mpg files on either my WMP or an ATI Multimedia player, my player crashes immediately and I get the standard windows XP error and report it but the windows explorer window also closes with the same type of windows error and reports the problem.
I can only assume this is a result from a "phantom" jpg file I found in a folder this week. The file was "anchored" in a folder in my documents, I say anchored because I was unable to delete/rename/copy/cut/drag and drop/etc. the jpg. Again, I'm only calling it a jpg as it showed a jpg icon although no image was displayed in the preview window and when I selected properties under the file menu, it showed no information, no description, nothing, it even showed 0 kb, although I seem to recall it showed perhaps 82kb when listed in the folder. I was able to finally delete the file by deleting the file folder it was stored in, but it did not undo the damage I mentioned above. Prior to figuring out how to delete the file I ran Adaware, Spybot S&D, Norton, and Ewido and they found nothing out of the ordinary. I also posted an HJT log here and was told it appeared to be clean.
So, when I saw the "debugger" link, I found PCRescue and installed and ran it. Of course I knew it would find lots of errors over 700 but would only delete about 22 in only two registries "windows startup" and "file extensions" Is it worth paying for the full version or is this problem something much more alarming. Lastly, I occassionally see a window informing me DrWatson Debugger needs to be closed, I never installed DrWatson and when I tried to Uninstall it using the control panel, I find no listing there.
when ever i start any video application it shows that something has gone wrong and prog is to be closed,and pror closes everything on desktop closes and disappear only to reappear again after some time.

However now I seem to have ended up with a few corrupt Folders/Files.Whenever I try to run a Norton Antivirus scan or any number of Spyware removal programs such as Spybot, Spysweeper, Ewido, Ad-Aware etc they all get stuck or crash on one particular general data Folder. This happened after booting up my pc today (running XP Pro SP3).
I had a malware infection days ago and removed it almost completely (apart from random tabs popping up in Firefox).
Last night I ran O&O Defrag and it finished without any problems or errors.
when i download a file and then try to open it. i get an error that the specified file has encountered a problem and needs to close. if i cut and past the file to a location outside the folder i can then run the program.

I immediately ran a scan using AVG, but in my impatience and worry over getting this infection I googled for information and found instructions at this web site. So I mistakenly tried to follow them. Unfortunately I must have made an error in there somewhere because now I?m having problems opening program files. AVG scrubbed the virus but now I cannot open program files. Whenever you try to open up a program, it will either say "(Program name).exe" is missing" but when you go find the .exe file it is there. Or a new window will pop up asking what you want to open the program with. he doesn't know what files they were. Ive tried system restore, and restoring files in the recycle bin.

It will however load if I am already in the program which usually opens it. Beside them it says SIG file, which I have no idea what that means. 1.I cannot open the "Properties " Dialog box in the "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel. In Control Panel, I right-click "Add/Remove Programs" to open the "Properties" Dialog box. But, when I right-click, all that appears is "Open" and "Create Shortcut." The same goes for all the programs in the Control Panel, except a handful may display a 3rd option..."Explore." I can still open up it up and select a file, but it is impossible to add it to the "Open with" list, which is annoying. No error messages pop up or anything, but when I go to Browse in the "Open with" window and select the program, it just reverts to the (unchanged) "Open with" window.

I can't right click on a jpg and set it as background and it wont detect any of the wallpapers i have in my pictures folder like it used to. The only wallpapers it will use are the default windows wallpapers or anything i set to wallpaper by right clicking on an image online. As for my other problem, I can't get files to open with the correct program. I know i can set a file type to always open with a certain prgram, but that isnt working. Example: I have a .max file which should open in 3ds max. Instead it opens in nothing and stay a blank file with no icon. I can still open it by opening up the program and opening it from there, but it's annoying. My winamp play lists also all seem to want to open in windows media player no matter how many time i tell them to always open in winamp.
