Service Pack 2 Download Takes A Lot Of Time - Finishing In The Middle
Aug 9, 2005
Does anyone knows what´s wrong with the installation of the Service Pack 2? I have been trying to download the file and it takes forever.. (more than 24 hours). I am using ADSL USB conection that has 512Kbps speed, is that normal? the updating window showes a blue line in the middle that says: "Finishing the installation.
i have heard many good and bad things about teh new service pack and being a novice i am having a hard time trying to find a straight yes or no answer anywhere all im finding is very technical answers that i do not understand half of what people are saying
I have a retail version of Windows XP Pro without any service packs. Where can I download SP3? I looked at Microsoft's website but it is way to confusing. I think I downloaded SP3 but it said it was meant for IT professionals to be used on a network.
I am running Windows XP on an E-machines T2385. I had previously loaded the MS Plus! Superpack for XP so that I could utilize Media Player 10 and Movie Maker 2. After several unrelated problems I had to perform a system restore, which was successful. I recently tried to load the Plus! software again and experienced some permissions problems. I was advised by MS to download and use download the Microsoft Installer Clean-up Utility. I was then able to load Disk "1" of the Plus! XP Superpack with no problem. In attempting to load Disk "2" (Digital Media version; w/Media Player 10 and Movie Maker 2 w/ add-ons) I was again prompted to download Movie maker 2 from the internet. Once again it was only available as a download WITH Service Pack 2. I attempted to download SP2, and this time it appeared to proceed smoothly. However, once I got about half way through (as indicated by the status bar) I received the following message pop-up:
"Service Pack 2 Download: Access Denied. OK."
I clicked OK and the following pop-up appeared:
"Service Pack 2 Set-Up Error: Service Pack 2 installation did not complete. Select 'OK' to undo the changes that have been made. OK"
I clicked OK, and a pop-up indicated that various components of the SP2 set-up were being undone, and files erased and deleted. At the conclusion of the removal of SP2 files I received the following pop-up:
"Service Pack 2 Set-up Error: Service Pack 2 installation did not complete. Windows XP has been partially updated and may not work properly."
I was then prompted to restart my computer to put any of the changes into effect. window indicating that a critical update was available. I'm not certain if the update was simply the latest and greatest or somehow related to the problem at hand... but then when I click on the download option/update referenced it proceeds to a point and then gives me an error message stating that certain files needed to be updated before the download could be successful.
This is becoming frustrating. I would think that downloading SP2 with WXP would be an easy thing to do... but apparently not. Please help! Thanks...
when I try to hibernate the machine if any programs are running it will say I don't have enough memory (I have 2GB in a Gateway 506GR, Pentium 4, 3400 Mhz running XP Home Edition). I run NOD32 antivirus.
The machine seems like it is running hard all the time but the CPU usage is usually only around 2 or 3 %. I'm thinking about putting in a larger hard drive and starting over completely. I backup pretty well (although not always often enough)
My computer has automatically tried to install it over 30 times now, and i tried manually about 5 times, and everytime it just fails, and doesn't complete! PLEASE HELP!
My home computer is not connected to the net and I need to obtain Service pack 2. Does anyone have a link that will allow me to download the service pack to a disk or CD if it's too big for disk?
Downloaded the new Service pack 3 update for Windows XP? I seem to remember it gave me problems with my pc re-booting. Hpw dp I get rid of the yellow icon sitting in my tray?
I am about to download and install XP Service Pack 2. When I attempted to do this when SP2 first came out, my computer slowed almost to a standstill and I uninstalled it.
Since installing Service Pack 2, whenever switching on my computer the message "The requested control is not valid for this service". The message disappears when I click on "OK" but I would like to know how to prevent it appearing and just what "the required control"
No matter what browser I use the downloading file stops in the middle of it. It just stops, not move. I need help with this. I use kaspersky suite 6.0 and free zone alarm firewall
My Windows Update was set to download updates, and then notify me to install. Well, I have Windows Service Pack 3 "downloaded," but not installed, yet. And whenever I shut down my XP Professional system it asks me whether I want to install it. I have decided that I want to wait a month or so before installing it, so how do I remove it from my system. By the way, I went ahead a changed the setting at the Windows Update site so it now notifies me of any updates, but it does not download it to my system....but, as I said above, what I want to do is get rid of the download on my system
Once I installed sp3, I could not get past the windows loading screen, so I started in safemode and uninstalled sp3 that way. My question is, does uninstalling sp3 remove sp2 as well. I can not see sp2 under add/remove programs, but my windows update history says I downloaded sp2 last May.

I have had Windows XP on my computer for 3 years, during that time I have had no problems with updates. A couple of days ago updates were running when I got the following message box. Service pack 3 setup. Access denied1! Microsoft will now un-install the current updates. At this point I was in a hurry to leave and shut off my computer thinking that when I started up again, the updates would resume their activity.......
Every time I try to download SP2 computer restarts during the installation, specifically when its making backup files. I got this error signature after the computer rebooted I have a Widows XP Home edition.

I have service pack 3 on my desktop pc with windows xp. is it possible to downgrade to service pack, my wireless usb adapter will work on it properly, This is what I was told to do by a tech at Linksys just now, although it worked fine last night, they know they have issues with service pack 3 on xp, and have not got a driver working yet for service pack So they told me to downgrade my pc to service pack 2 until they do have a good driver
I tried downloading service pack 2 and it messed up my computer and it takes a while to get onto it and the internet is slow. I can only use it in safe mode. Please tell me what to do, besides reboot the computer, for I have done that 2 times already.
