I have an HP. Personally, I think it's a great computer but it's extremely slow and it crashes randomly. Also, I keep losing internet connection. My ISP is cox and I also have vonage so they're connected to each other
View 2 RepliesMy pc is so slow that it takes ages to play a song in wmp11. Ive used tools like ad-aware and registry mechanic, tune up utilities. But still no improvement. It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I've looked in the task manager and the applications column will be blank

View 8 Replies View RelatedAbout a week back I seem to have gotten a virus that tried to act like a windows firewall popup in an attempt to get me to download bogus software that would do bad things to my computer, well I didn't fall for it, but AVG didn't pikc the virus up right away. But after a day or two it did, and stoped it, but it also found a few other viruses hiding out in windows restore files. I'm actually not sure if this is related to my main problem, but it happened around the same time so I'm reporting it. Ok shortly after I got rid of those viruses my computer started freezing. But I'm not talking about a total lock up. Its kinda like a slow freeze.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have windowsXP Home Edition, and lately everything is unbelievably slow. When first turning it on, it takes about 8 minutes before I can get online as it seems to be loading a lot of programs. I have tried to disable some programs at startup, but that only caused more problems, i.e.:I disabled my TomTom device from startup in "Services" and removed it from my system tray. I couldn't use my computer for 2 days after disabling it, along with some other programs, and an error message stated that I could not access it because I was not the Administrator (I am). My Firefox Firewall turns off sometimes, too, and is only restored after a lot of work (I could not do a "System Restore") All downloads seem to take forever, and my computer is constantly crashing and/or freezing up, or just "hangs". Quite frequently I receive an error message (While in middle of something) that states "An Error Has Occured And Windows Needs To Close" for absolutely no reason. I run Avast and Spybot frequently, but there is no mention of a problem. I make sure to delete everything in "Internet Properties" before I shut down for the night.
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that my internet connection is pretty slow on my main computer. It's an older (6 years) Dell. I'm still running XP and IE7. I have Comcast cable and it's connected through a Linksys modem. The problem is that the internet response on this machine is pretty slow. I have a laptop that I use and that is much better. I would figure that my "main" computer would be faster since it has a hard connection, not wireless. I know that isn't much info so ask away and I do what I can to provide all the info needed.

View 6 Replies View Related(World of Warcraft and Counter-Strike Source) as well as during startup and during desktop use, that my computer sometimes reboots itself automatically. Like pressing the restart button, or the screen freezes (occurs when playing Counter-Strike Source) and my audio emits a very high pitched stuttering sound and no commands work, and as such the computer must be manually restarted. I would greatly appreciate it if someone would be able to give me some clues as to what is wrong.I am currently using the latest free addtion of Zone Labs 'Zone Alarm' firewall and AVG free anti-virus + Ad-Aware SE Personal Spyware removal. These programs have not found any viruses on the computer, although sometimes during a virus scan with AVG the computer will automatically reboot half-way through the virus scan procedure.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI am currently running windows xp pro. I attend university and use their lan internet which i get via a port in my dorm. Lately I have had problems with my computer and the internet/running slow. The internet will work fine somtimes, then for a reason i am unable to identify, it seems to stop working. The computer doesn't see a network problem, i just don't get any internet access, and that includes any programs not just my browser. when this happens my computer also runs very slowly. It takes it 3-5 seconds to close a window or even to minimize. I can't find any programs sucking my memory in the task manager, and have run numerious virus and anti-spyware scans, but have found nothing. I am attaching a hjt log, hopefully someone can figure out how to get my computer back up to a useable/ reliable point.

I spoke to internet service provider two times and they says there is no problem from their side. They have done a speed check and said that there could be something wrong with the computer.

Also my computer is old in computer terms about 5 or 6 how can I speed it up without paying money? My C: drive always seems to be low disk space. I don't download anything to that drive. One last thing I have msn dial up 56k, but when I sign on Ionly get a 44k and sometimes a 41k or 42k. What can I do about that without going cable modem?

I have been looking for the program for a very long time, and I was angry that it didn't work. So I allowed the infected program and then the it disappeared. The icon disappeared. I knew I shouldn't have done it, but nothing bad happened to me for about a day. Then, my laptop was slower than normal, internet connection was slow (I'm right next to the router too), and I was getting pop-ups. I tried to do System Restore, but all my restore points were gone! I couldn't even switch months! Also, Automatic Updates was telling me that it was off, but when I checked my settings were the same when I first set them.

For some reason for the last 3 days my internet connection has gotten worse and worse i just reformated and reinstalled windows i have a linksys router and 2 computers hooked up to it and one playstation 2 for online gaming i looked at the setup online at 192.168.1.1 and it says i have 2 clients one at 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.102 mine is at 102 is there a reason it skips over 101 because mine use to be 100 and the other computer 101 why is it now 102?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis is a Windows XP sp3 domain connected PC with one specific user, which all of a sudden takes 2.5mins to log in to the domain, Where it used to take just about 20 seconds. Other users on the same PC is all OK 20sec login This is not the usual where it hangs at "applying computer settings" or "personal settings" it's after those two has passed that it just hangs for a couple of minutes.
All i get is the mouse pointer (not even hourglass) and the desktop wallpaper for about 2-3 minutes. When it finally logs in everything is as quick as you would expect that spec of PC to be (1,6ghz Sempron, 1gb RAM, 40gb IDE-100 HDD)
I have a Dell Dimension 300 desktop, Windows XP Home, 5.1.2600 svc pk 3, Intel 279 Mhz, 512 MB memory, using IE6 sp3. It has been starting and shutting down extremely slow. When I go on the internet, it's been slow. Last night I installed IE8, and the problem got worse. It was even slower. So I did a System Restore just now, and it seems just as slow as after installing IE8, but now I'm back to IE6

View 1 Replies View Relatedcomputer now takes half an hour to an hour to reboot. in doing so, it tells me that it does not do the startup and services. it is so slow it is unbelievable. sometimes even being so slow that the words we type take a few seconds to show up on the screen. after working for a time it will invariably hang. or it will shut itself down. in either case we have to reboot, it takes that half an hour to an hour again
