My computer is running slower and the internet is running very slow compared to a week ago. The cursor will at times freeze up if a couple of screens are open and I don't move it for a minute or 2. Sometimes when the screen saver activates I can't do anything cause its frozen.
I have updated and ran;
My mouse cursor is frozen in the middle of the deskstop, Cannot use keyboard to getinto system.Also when booting up system freezes and takes 3-4 minutes to load. Tried in safe mode and the same thing happens.Don't know what to do at this point...just want to get into computer

The first issue is that my cursor is stuck in the middle of the screen upon startup. It will not move and I have to shut down, check connections, (keyboard and mouse are wireless, batteries are new) and as it restarts I click the mouse and it moves after I do this several times. I have to put the computer on standby every night or I have to go through the whole thing again. Moreover, windows startup has become horribly slow�and I have �hi-speed� roadrunner I use firefox for my internet connection. I have run defraq, disk cleanup, AVG, maleware, spybot, hijackthis,and Ad-aware. No change....
Thank you for any help. The following is my system info�let me now what other info you may need. BTW V2Premier batch loaded XP on the cpu so I do not have a disk. They are out of business and have sent me in circles trying to get one.
I have windows xp and it has a hibernate mode. Well someone put it in that mode and when I wanted to launch windows the cursor is frozen and I can't get out of the hibernate mode. What can I do to get rid of hibernate and launch windows?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an old IBM Thinkpad R51 (loaded with Windows XP) which kept going through the boot up sequence without coming up all the way. I had got it back to the factory default setting and now it is booting all the way to the desktop screen. But I have a new problem: the cursor (laptop mouse pad) is frozen. I was able to move it around as it was booting up but once it boots up to the desktop screen the cursor is stuck in the middle of the screen.
I would load the XP service pack but because of the cursor I can't.
I decided to actually run windows updates for once, and I did, it said it was upgrading to windows XP SP3. But then after a while it became extremely slow and I couldn't run anything in the background, the bar was half way through so I left the computer on over night, to find in the morning that the updates were still not finished and the bar was still halfway. The updates were still happening though as different file names like "installing blahblah.dll" were coming up every 10 or so seconds. It's been updating for about 12 hours now and the computers basically frozen and is so slow I can't do anything. I don't want to shut down my computer as I know that's a bad thing to do during windows service pack updates, but what else can I do? This SP update has been going on all night and the bar hasn't moved at all. Should I just shut down/restart the computer and let it restore on startup? It did say at the beginning of the updates that it was backing up my files, and if it didn't I could do system restore. OR, should I just leave my computer on untill it finishes?
View 6 Replies View Related my computer has started freezing after startup. Well, I say the computer has started freezing, but it's stranger than that. Pretty much as soon as I log into Windows, the taskbar freezes up. Mousing anywhere on the taskbar causes the cursor to turn into the hourglass. The system tray icons are frozen as well. This happens every time the computer starts up.
Desktop items are all clickable and somewhat usable, but to a limited extent. For example, I can open "My Computer" but then explorer freezes if I double-click on either hard drive. I have a videos folder on the desktop that I can open, but if I then try to play any of the videos, Windows Media Player opens with a blank white screen and never actually starts playing the video.
I am having a terrible problem my cursor works for a short period of time then freezes. I reboot and it happens again. When I am in Safe Mode Networking it does not happen. So I do not believe it is my Hard Drive.

I thought it was my wireless optical mouse, but after switching back to a regular (cabled) mouse, it did it again. I just unplugged, and replugged the mouse and it began working normally. I cleaned my system previously with Spybot, Adaware, Regscrub XP, and have AVG, Zonealarm and MS Spyware updated. I ran AVG and Stinger and found nothing.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have windows xp & last night my cursor froze up. I replaced the mouse but that made no difference. I used the keyboard to navigate & did a system restore to 2 days previous. That did nothing. I powered down several times & still no results. I was playing spider solitaire that came with the computer when the cursor froze. This morning when I turned the computer back on the cursor was working again, but when I started playing spider again it froze up after a while. I powered down & got the cursor back, but who knows for how long. Could the spider game be causing this? I'm running my virus scan right now & so far no threats.

For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. View 2 Replies View RelatedAnyhow, on my second laptop, my roommate borrowed it and of course has no idea what she could've possibly ever done. She's probably a lil' too dense to realize if she download or got some kind of virus using it. And, of course, she didn't bother telling me right away so when I went to start up the laptop one day, it was going extremely slow.It took about 10 minutes for the laptop to boot to the windows login screen. Any mouse movement whether on the mousepad or when I hook up my USB mouse takes about 1 minute to register any movement. I haven't even been able to get to the main desktop screen. (I'm trying as I type.. but, judging by the length of how long it took the other stuff, I could be in for a long wait.) Even when I typed in the password it took about 5 minutes for it to seemingly type out.. but the "dots" cut off so I have no idea if it actually will go through or not or if I will get the "incorrect password" error message.

I have Comcast cable and it's connected through a Linksys modem. The problem is that the internet response on this machine is pretty slow. I have a laptop that I use and that is much better. I would figure that my "main" computer would be faster since it has a hard connection, not wireless. I know that isn't much info so ask away and I do what I can to provide all the info needed.

Lately I have had problems with my computer and the internet/running slow. The internet will work fine somtimes, then for a reason i am unable to identify, it seems to stop working. The computer doesn't see a network problem, i just don't get any internet access, and that includes any programs not just my browser. when this happens my computer also runs very slowly. It takes it 3-5 seconds to close a window or even to minimize. I can't find any programs sucking my memory in the task manager, and have run numerious virus and anti-spyware scans, but have found nothing. I am attaching a hjt log, hopefully someone can figure out how to get my computer back up to a useable/ reliable point.

I have been looking for the program for a very long time, and I was angry that it didn't work. So I allowed the infected program and then the it disappeared. The icon disappeared. I knew I shouldn't have done it, but nothing bad happened to me for about a day. Then, my laptop was slower than normal, internet connection was slow (I'm right next to the router too), and I was getting pop-ups. I tried to do System Restore, but all my restore points were gone! View 1 Replies View RelatedXP Home reboots in the 3+ minute range. Once it gets to the 'Starting Windows XP' screen, it loads fine. Some damnthing is hanging.MY comp is running slow. Expeciially on the net. Task manager is reporting no excess network use. IE 6 acts like it's on a 56k modem. I use Mozilla FireFox, which runs fine, but my wife is a IE 6 fanatic. Shareaza and WinMX load slowly and take a minute or more to change tabs. BitTornado (latest versions all) loads and runs fine, but seems to hang after an hour or so. It stops updating speeds, seeds, peers, etc. It also closes slowly. Once I get online, the comp slams on the brakes. Mozilla is the only app that seems unaffected. Sygate is also logging a lot of portscans. 7 in the in the last hour or so. All from the same IP address.

My comp is slow with programs (especially opening) and also on the internet. Aso, my processing light is always on, no flicker, just a solid light. I usually get frustrated and shut it down. A lot of times when online and am just browsing i get the message Internet Explorer cannot display this page even though i am connected!! very frustrating!! Also if i am on any site like ebay that displays pictures the pictures don`t come up i just get a small red cross that i have to right click and press show picture!
