Slow Computer & Internet - Virus?

I have recently downloaded a free program and was going to install it. I ran it, and then my antivirus blocked it because it contained a virus. I have been looking for the program for a very long time, and I was angry that it didn't work. So I allowed the infected program and then the it disappeared. The icon disappeared. I knew I shouldn't have done it, but nothing bad happened to me for about a day. Then, my laptop was slower than normal, internet connection was slow (I'm right next to the router too), and I was getting pop-ups. I tried to do System Restore, but all my restore points were gone! I couldn't even switch months! Also, Automatic Updates was telling me that it was off, but when I checked my settings were the same when I first set them.

It can't even seem to keep up with my typing. Ugh. I use AVG free, and it is current and doesn't detect any problems.

Lately my computer has been extremely slow, not just internet slow but onboard slow. For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I've looked in the task manager and the applications column will be blank

My computer used to run fast and now it doesnt... I have ran the defrag, disk cleanup, Ad-adware SE Personal, Spybot Search and destroy, and avg, cleaned up all problems I could find, and I am still unable to multitask... at any great speed... this may be normal, but just wondering if there are things going on I dont know about

I have an HP. Personally, I think it's a great computer but it's extremely slow and it crashes randomly. Also, I keep losing internet connection. My ISP is cox and I also have vonage so they're connected to each other

Ive been having troubles with my comp Programs are opening up slowly and generaly most thing are slow.The main thing that i notice is when trying to attached a item to a emil in outlook i will click insert/file/cdrive/this file/ that file, it takes somewhere between 1-2 min to open cdrive and each click.
Another thing that i noticed was that when i remove the usb keyboard and mouse 1-2 min later i will get the soud of being removed.I get alot of programs not responding but after a while they do, eg when shutting down a associated program with the printer almost allways pops up not resonding but does after a while.

Both of my teens have Windows XP and both computers are running extremely slow after virus/spyware removal. One gets a debugging pop up everytime you try to do anything. I've tried to run skndsk but can only run it in a read only mode. Can anyone advised what to do without having to run fdisk and reformat the hard drive?

I had this Trojan vundo virus about a month ago and you helped me remove it. My computer was running fine until all of the same things started happening again. Im pretty sure i still have the virus b/c my computer is running very slow and just plain bad. I ran VundoFix.exe (it found like 10 things), clicked remove vundo, and rebooted. I ran HijackThis and here is this log file.what i need to delete? ....

Hey guys, I don't have the computer in front of me, but my mom's computer is working really slowly, and it's had the defragger ran on it, and according to Ad-Aware and AVG it's clean, so what could possibly be making it run so slowly? If you absolutely have no idea, I'll try to get a hijackthis log for it, but as I said, Ad-Aware and AVG didn't find anything wrong with it there, and I ran the defrag on it the other day and it didn't help at all. Plenty of space left on the HD, so I have no idea what is going on....except that maybe the computer is a lemon. They've had problems with it since pretty soon after they bought it, but it's just progressively gotten worse.

I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with my parents' PC. They have WinXP, 512MB RAM, and a 1.2 GHz cpu. They've had a problem wth spyware in the past and have had it cleaned up, but it still boots up extremely slow. Usually it's around ten minutes or so until you can finally do anything on it, and even then, applications seem to take a while to start up and run slow after they do. Is there something I can do to see what's the matter with it?

laptop started operating very slow when I tried opening various MS office softwares. took my computer to a local computer store and they told me that because of a virus I needed to have the entire Windows XP reinstalled. However, due to a high price I haven't been able to have my computer fixed. I already have the Windows XP Pro server pack one on a CD. how i can go about reinstalling Windows XP Pro on my laptop? I inadvertently downloaded spyware about a month ago and since then my computer's system has been slowly deteriorating. I downloaded lavasoft and adaware but they did absolutely nothing to remove problems.Recently my entire computer's screen is blue and says "A fatal error has occurred...error caused by Trojan-Spy.html.smitfraud.c" I'm afraid to use the internet on that computer.

I Recently Had My Computer Rebuilt And Went From Dial Up To Verizon Dsl. Loved The Speed For Awhile. 512 Memory Was Added. Now It It's Running Slower. My computer is infected. I have ccCleaner, Spybot, Ad-Watch, Ad Aware, Windows live onecare. I have ran them all but I am still having problems. When I log onto Internet Explorer I get a blue screen that tells me I need to reset my security settings in order to view my home page which is road runner. I followed the instructions and nothing. I cannot view any flash sites. I tried to see if I am missing a flash player and I cannot locate one. When I try to download Adobe Flash Player, I am unable to do so as the download button does not appear on my screen ( I know where the button is supposed to be because I checked out the site on my daughters computer,which I am on now). I also tried to download other software to help with the spyware and malware, however the minute I hit download I either instantly get disconnected from the internet or I get an error message that says " Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and must shut down...". I have gone into safe mode and ran spybot and the others and still no better. I am getting a message that Windows Firewall is disabled, however when I got to it Its grey and it wont let me turn it on. I have been trying to fix my computer for days and am completely fustrated,

My problem is that my internet connection is pretty slow on my main computer. It's an older (6 years) Dell. I'm still running XP and IE7. I have Comcast cable and it's connected through a Linksys modem. The problem is that the internet response on this machine is pretty slow. I have a laptop that I use and that is much better. I would figure that my "main" computer would be faster since it has a hard connection, not wireless. I know that isn't much info so ask away and I do what I can to provide all the info needed.

I am currently running windows xp pro. I attend university and use their lan internet which i get via a port in my dorm. Lately I have had problems with my computer and the internet/running slow. The internet will work fine somtimes, then for a reason i am unable to identify, it seems to stop working. The computer doesn't see a network problem, i just don't get any internet access, and that includes any programs not just my browser. when this happens my computer also runs very slowly. It takes it 3-5 seconds to close a window or even to minimize. I can't find any programs sucking my memory in the task manager, and have run numerious virus and anti-spyware scans, but have found nothing. I am attaching a hjt log, hopefully someone can figure out how to get my computer back up to a useable/ reliable point.

My computer is running too slow when I am accessing internet. It takes hell amount of time to load any page and sometimes it does not even load and says that page can't be found.
I spoke to internet service provider two times and they says there is no problem from their side. They have done a speed check and said that there could be something wrong with the computer.
I am not really getting what could be wrong with my machine.

Can someone help me plz my internet is running slower than usual and sometimes my whole computer.I usualy download off limewire but when i surf the net i turn it off using the exit on the menu.I recently started burning avi.mpeg,mpg movies with nero vision express with no problem but now it comes up with a message saying unable to insert movie..........Ive already scanned with norton,adaware se personal,emptied my cookies,temp foilder and history.I dont want to remove any software incase i do need it.Can someone plz tell me which ones i do need and which ones i dont so i can remove them?

I have 3 drives C: D: and E:. I want to get rid of the E: drive how do I do that? Also my computer is old in computer terms about 5 or 6 how can I speed it up without paying money? My C: drive always seems to be low disk space. I don't download anything to that drive. One last thing I have msn dial up 56k, but when I sign on Ionly get a 44k and sometimes a 41k or 42k. What can I do about that without going cable modem?

I did find three trojans and turned off about 30 items in my startup list but still having a few problems running slow one click on the explorer icon on my desktop and i get a short cut and no internet. have in another way. ran adaware found some problems there too. tried to download spybot but an error occured while loading....is that an xp problem? think i turned the nortons off cause it wasnt working properly and i loaded the avg.

For some reason for the last 3 days my internet connection has gotten worse and worse i just reformated and reinstalled windows i have a linksys router and 2 computers hooked up to it and one playstation 2 for online gaming i looked at the setup online at 192.168.1.1 and it says i have 2 clients one at 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.102 mine is at 102 is there a reason it skips over 101 because mine use to be 100 and the other computer 101 why is it now 102?
