Computer Is Slow, Slow, Doesn't Detect Virus
Oct 23, 2006It can't even seem to keep up with my typing. Ugh. I use AVG free, and it is current and doesn't detect any problems.

Computer Running Slow - Not Just Internet Slow But Onboard Slow
May 10, 2010Lately my computer has been extremely slow, not just internet slow but onboard slow. For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I've looked in the task manager and the applications column will be blank

Jun 18, 2008I have recently downloaded a free program and was going to install it. I ran it, and then my antivirus blocked it because it contained a virus. I have been looking for the program for a very long time, and I was angry that it didn't work. So I allowed the infected program and then the it disappeared. The icon disappeared. I knew I shouldn't have done it, but nothing bad happened to me for about a day. Then, my laptop was slower than normal, internet connection was slow (I'm right next to the router too), and I was getting pop-ups. I tried to do System Restore, but all my restore points were gone! I couldn't even switch months! Also, Automatic Updates was telling me that it was off, but when I checked my settings were the same when I first set them.

Feb 16, 2009Ive been having troubles with my comp Programs are opening up slowly and generaly most thing are slow.The main thing that i notice is when trying to attached a item to a emil in outlook i will click insert/file/cdrive/this file/ that file, it takes somewhere between 1-2 min to open cdrive and each click.
Another thing that i noticed was that when i remove the usb keyboard and mouse 1-2 min later i will get the soud of being removed.I get alot of programs not responding but after a while they do, eg when shutting down a associated program with the printer almost allways pops up not resonding but does after a while.
Computer Too Slow After Virus Removed
Jul 8, 2010Both of my teens have Windows XP and both computers are running extremely slow after virus/spyware removal. One gets a debugging pop up everytime you try to do anything. I've tried to run skndsk but can only run it in a read only mode. Can anyone advised what to do without having to run fdisk and reformat the hard drive?

Feb 17, 2010Just recently, I noticed my computer acting a little slow than normal so I went to check my task manager. I found out that my total physical memory was "halved". I have 1GB of RAM installed but the task manager only shows half of it, 512MB. I went to check msinfo and it showed that I had 1GB of RAM installed.This problem occurs on a somewhat random basis, sometimes it shows I have 1GB of RAM installed sometimes not. In some applications like CCleaner, it also reflects the same RAM info as my task manager.Any permanent workaround for this problem? Or is this a hardware fault? When this problem occurs, my pc is not making full use of my 1GB of ram, hence the sluggish performance I noticed as of late. Below are screenshots to illustrate what I mean.

Dec 9, 2006Hey guys, I don't have the computer in front of me, but my mom's computer is working really slowly, and it's had the defragger ran on it, and according to Ad-Aware and AVG it's clean, so what could possibly be making it run so slowly? If you absolutely have no idea, I'll try to get a hijackthis log for it, but as I said, Ad-Aware and AVG didn't find anything wrong with it there, and I ran the defrag on it the other day and it didn't help at all. Plenty of space left on the HD, so I have no idea what is going on....except that maybe the computer is a lemon. They've had problems with it since pretty soon after they bought it, but it's just progressively gotten worse.

They've had a problem wth spyware in the past and have had it cleaned up, but it still boots up extremely slow. Usually it's around ten minutes or so until you can finally do anything on it, and even then, applications seem to take a while to start up and run slow after they do. Dec 23, 2008This is a Windows XP sp3 domain connected PC with one specific user, which all of a sudden takes 2.5mins to log in to the domain, Where it used to take just about 20 seconds. Other users on the same PC is all OK 20sec login This is not the usual where it hangs at "applying computer settings" or "personal settings" it's after those two has passed that it just hangs for a couple of minutes.
All i get is the mouse pointer (not even hourglass) and the desktop wallpaper for about 2-3 minutes. When it finally logs in everything is as quick as you would expect that spec of PC to be (1,6ghz Sempron, 1gb RAM, 40gb IDE-100 HDD)

Sep 26, 2006computer now takes half an hour to an hour to reboot. in doing so, it tells me that it does not do the startup and services. it is so slow it is unbelievable. sometimes even being so slow that the words we type take a few seconds to show up on the screen. after working for a time it will invariably hang. or it will shut itself down. in either case we have to reboot, it takes that half an hour to an hour again

I have Comcast cable and it's connected through a Linksys modem. The problem is that the internet response on this machine is pretty slow. I have a laptop that I use and that is much better. I would figure that my "main" computer would be faster since it has a hard connection, not wireless. I know that isn't much info so ask away and I do what I can to provide all the info needed.
