Extremely Slow Start Up - Ran Ad-Aware And Scanned For Virus
Jan 23, 2006Starting about two Sundays ago (1/15), I've noticed that my laptop is painfully slow to start up (whereas it had not been before). I hadn't installed anything new (but I have installed things since). Everything goes fine, Windows starts, I get the welcome screen, that dissapears and my desktop show up but it takes at least 3 to 4 minutes before my icons and start bar show up. I just restarted now to test and it took 6 minutes. I ran Ad-Aware and scanned for virus' last Wednesday. Still crawling, but otherwise, once it starts, performance has not declined.

Jul 20, 2005My girlfriend's computer is extremely slow, and I was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions. She has a Dell Dimension 2350, (I believe) with a celeron processor. It's not that old (maybe 4-5 years old?).
I am always running her ad-aware and spybot. I just updated her Norton Anti Virus and ran that last night. At this point, I'm not thinking it's any spyware or viruses since they've all been deleted and cleaned out. She used to have spyware, and a lot. Does anyone think that even though it's been cleaned out, perhaps some kind of "permanent" damage has been done to her registry as a result of the spyware I deleted from her computer several months ago?

I don' know what file that is. there are two files that were not deleted: mon000.log and one named Dat.File pefib Perfdata Also ran ATF-cleaner

I've run spybot, ad aware Norton�s internet security, Found lots of spyware but still slow and when connected to internet my browser is redirected via pop-ups. Also I have had the computer crash and had to do use xp recovery console and chkdsk to recovery the operating system twice.There are five separate users who can log on as administer and change the settings but do I have to run the scans and edits in each user account or do the changes cover the whole of the accounts.

Jan 4, 2006when the malware paytime.exe attacked my pc. It turned off my firewall(SP2 Firewall), real-time virus scanner(Trend microoffice client,not using its firewall, provided by my service provider). With the help of hijackthis, spybot and ewido and also the interent , able to delete paytime.exe and its related files.
I am able to control my firewall. Thats the only success BUT when I click nvmixer.exe in my taskbar, it shows visual C++ runtime error and my virus scanner is saying that officescan client has not started. So in control panel I entered in administrative tools and tried manually to start real time scan process but I failed again. It shows cannot start this process in safe mode.The same thing is repeated for other processes like error reporting etc. I am booting in normal mode only but its showing cant run in safe mode.

Feb 16, 2009Ive been having troubles with my comp Programs are opening up slowly and generaly most thing are slow.The main thing that i notice is when trying to attached a item to a emil in outlook i will click insert/file/cdrive/this file/ that file, it takes somewhere between 1-2 min to open cdrive and each click.
Another thing that i noticed was that when i remove the usb keyboard and mouse 1-2 min later i will get the soud of being removed.I get alot of programs not responding but after a while they do, eg when shutting down a associated program with the printer almost allways pops up not resonding but does after a while.
Computer Too Slow After Virus Removed
Jul 8, 2010Both of my teens have Windows XP and both computers are running extremely slow after virus/spyware removal. One gets a debugging pop up everytime you try to do anything. I've tried to run skndsk but can only run it in a read only mode. Can anyone advised what to do without having to run fdisk and reformat the hard drive?

Dec 9, 2006Hey guys, I don't have the computer in front of me, but my mom's computer is working really slowly, and it's had the defragger ran on it, and according to Ad-Aware and AVG it's clean, so what could possibly be making it run so slowly? If you absolutely have no idea, I'll try to get a hijackthis log for it, but as I said, Ad-Aware and AVG didn't find anything wrong with it there, and I ran the defrag on it the other day and it didn't help at all. Plenty of space left on the HD, so I have no idea what is going on....except that maybe the computer is a lemon. They've had problems with it since pretty soon after they bought it, but it's just progressively gotten worse.
