AIM Worm In Computer : Norton, Ad-Aware SE, Spybot, Unintalling And Reinstalling Wont Work?
Aug 17, 2005
I've tried Norton, Ad-Aware SE, Spybot, unintalling and reinstalling, and I still have this worm. Basically, it just sends an IM to anybody I'm talking to, saying check this out: and then a hyperlink. I don't know if this is the best place to come but its the only place I could find. Could somebody either tell me how to fix this or point me in the right direction to somebody who can?
My computer is lagging up to the point where I'm getting ready to format, just wondering if someone could take a peak at my HJT log and let me know of any baddies in there. I run spybot and Adaware all of the time and I use Avg Antivirus.
My girlfriend's computer is extremely slow, and I was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions. She has a Dell Dimension 2350, (I believe) with a celeron processor. It's not that old (maybe 4-5 years old?).
I am always running her ad-aware and spybot. I just updated her Norton Anti Virus and ran that last night. At this point, I'm not thinking it's any spyware or viruses since they've all been deleted and cleaned out. She used to have spyware, and a lot. Does anyone think that even though it's been cleaned out, perhaps some kind of "permanent" damage has been done to her registry as a result of the spyware I deleted from her computer several months ago?
I know nothing about computers but my boyfriend knows a lot and this has even stumped him. I keep getting notices about having the w32.spybot.worm on my computer. We've followed the instructions on symantec for removal, didn't work. We've formatted it by deleting the partitions, still came back. Then we did a low-level format, and it still came back. The website at symantec says it comes from Kazaa?! I don't have kazaa, and never have. I run Norton virus checks and it doesn't find it, or it says it already deleted it. I search my computer and delete all the little tftp zero byte files. They keep coming back, and I don't know what to do.
The system has pop-ups and everything is running slow. I've run spybot, ad aware Nortons internet security, Found lots of spyware but still slow and when connected to internet my browser is redirected via pop-ups. Also I have had the computer crash and had to do use xp recovery console and chkdsk to recovery the operating system twice. There are five separate users who can log on as administer and change the settings but do I have to run the scans and edits in each user account or do the changes cover the whole of the accounts.
i have a packard bell laptop which is about 2.5 years old and has windows XP home pre loaded i have got infected by 3 worm viruses w32 spybot worm ,w32spybot worm KHC and trojan dropper. in an attempt to remove i decided to use the pc restore disk to restore all setting to factory settings however i have now done this twice and still appear to have the viruses is this normal or am i doing something wrong.
This was driving me crazy xp was saying i had a firewall up. Yet i only had xp firewall and thatwas turned off. Finaly turned my brain on and read the fine print in the windows security centre and it says Norton Worm whatever
My aunt got hit with the W32spybot.worm. Nortons keeps popin up alertin her to it but says it cant remove it. Ive pulled up the removal instrustions online. Problem is she is more or less computer illiterate and since she lives on the other side of the country from me I cant fix it myself. I would like to avoid having to walk her through the removal over the phone since it deals with the registry and random file names, it would make it a pain to find. Are there any programs out that can remove it? Nortons will only do it part way so it re-installs after reboot.
After a fresh install of windows and downloading SP2 etc plus some other things like a few games, adaware, spybot and kaperspy, I was just browsing (just a normal site, no porn) and I got the explore.exe encountered a problem and needs to close. I can still do browsing and open stuff etc. I tried reinstalling sp2, replacing the explorer.exe file, unchecking non-microsoft programs in msconfig, all with no result. I'm probably gonna just install Litestep and say screw it, but am wondering
My problem is is when I booted my comp up yesterday, norton comes up with some odd error about not being able to scan e-mail or instant messenger for viruses, and my internet on just this computer will not work. Now this happened with my other comp when the hard drive was failing. The computer will also at some reboots take forever to get into windows.Sometimes when I try to get into network connections or my computer, it will just hang or I get the flashlight icon scanning. I was able to back up most of my stuff, but when I tried to reformat, it kept saying to close all windows and I ended every program I could think of.I also tried a system restore to Saturday when it was working normal, but I have had no luck. Is it something with windows or is another HDD going? I'm thinking of just RMA'ing the HDD and do a whole new install. My only other option is to use a Linux Suse disk I have and boot from that and see if it works. Here are my specs:Athlon 64 3200+ | Asus A8N5X mobo | 5.1 surround soundcard | 2 GB Corsair PC3200 Ram| 250gig Hitachi Hdd/60 GB WD HDD | 420w PS | EVGA Geforce 7800GT | Logitec 5.1 surrond sound speakers w/subwoofer z-560
about a week ago my computer was having the blaster worm shutdown sign come up alot and then the mouse started to freeze. now it has no sound, no internet, and no mouse controll. it was running on windows XP. is there anyway at all i can fix this? any help would be great.
his program is dependent on the internet to unload and download important information containing my progress. but the program will not stay up. it will exit without any error or warning to the desktop. No data is saved to their servers. I know it's got to be my end. as I have seen others use it (in the classroom) without problems. My connection is stable. and I have DSL. In cases like this I would usually uninstall and then reinstall. I can not lose my past progress as it is saved to their servers. But I cannot uninstall as the setup.exe for the program cannot be found, I have not done a manual uninstall before.
I keep getting message to update virus definition yet each week I run a complete live Norton Virus Update. Try to manually update virus's but it does not work.
"Windows System Information" will not work anymore when I try to run it "Help & Support" comes up instead. Is there a way to reinstall "Windows System Information" or a way to correct this issue?
Since I tried to install Norton Systemworks 2005 (uninstalled since),I can't run any javascript. When I click on a link that's suposed to execute a script, nothing happens. I tried to uninstall/install J2SE runtime 1.5. No change.

I have been experiencing a problem with my Windows XP installation. My computer somehow got a few especially nasty viruses, and it eventually got to a point where it wouldn't start. I ran a virus scan from Knoppix, which rid my computer of most of its viruses, and Windows would start once again. It still had some problems, notably with random pop-ups. I ran Ad-Aware, but before I could delete the malicious content, ad-aware suddenly closed. I tried again, and got the same result. Eventually, I was able to delete the crucial malware, but there were still 70 entries of low-priority threats that I didn't get around to. ALso, I was having trouble updating my virus scanner, so I never got around to running another scan. I never ran Spybot, either. I know now that my negligence was dumb.
i have a problem that my computer restarts. i could be normally surfing the web and it just restarts and i try running spybot and when it is almost done it restarts i try running in safe mode and spybot restarts... can this be a virus
Twice so far in the past 4 days my computer has restarted itself automatically. When I get back to the desktop I check the task manager to see if any foul programs are running (which I didn't recognize any) and I noticed my CPU usage was fluctuating between 50% - 100%, never lower. I rebooted into safe mode and the CPU usage was norma (bouncing between 1 - 10%). I've ran adaware, spybot, and trend micro online virus scan which all came up clean. I haven't gotten any error messages or anything like it.
I ran Ad Aware SE and later Spyawre Doctor and found nothing also clen temp. files on IE/Tools/temp folders then I ran %temp% and deleted all temp files but it gave me an Error File or Folder mon000 that says close any programs that might be using the file and try again. I don' know what file that is. there are two files that were not deleted: mon000.log and one named Dat.File pefib Perfdata Also ran ATF-cleaner
My computer died and I move the hd to a dell and it wont boot. I read that you should reinstall OS to solve. However here are my problems:
1. The computer came with XP Home installed but no disks only the key sticker on the outside of the computer housing. Manufacturer, V2 premier which I found out is just and OEM, would not give me any disks or help me in any way.
2. I think I may have installed an XP professional upgrade but not sure.
3. I have and XP professional CD (Not just and upgrade) I can boot off of but dont kown if the upgrade key will work with it or the key on the side of the computer.
Just wondering if anyone could tell me how to completely reset my pc, as in delete everything and re-install windows. I have the backup disk, and just need to know how to use it.
My computer freezes during the step windows installing. I had the CD and the serial number and I'm doing a repair install. Not sure what I need to do now.
