Just wondering if anyone could tell me how to completely reset my pc, as in delete everything and re-install windows. I have the backup disk, and just need to know how to use it.
View 3 RepliesI need this computer working coz its for work and i dont wanna have to pay for maintenance for it if I can fix it myself.my computer just keeps reseting sometimes it takes upto half an hour sometimes it can take 5 minutes. If i leave it on a program or a web page it will do it aswell if when im not using it.
it cant be a hardware problem because theres been nothing put in it for a few months.
Recently our Dell Optiplex 330 experienced some pretty severe virus attacks that render the computer useless. The user had disabled the installed protect advising that it slowed his performance and would not let him install cute little things from his favorite social network. The machine was so hosed it was determined the best course of action was to reformat the drive and basically start over. The problem is this unit was sold to us by Dell with a license for Windows Vista Business which we request it be down graded to XP service pack 3. Each time we attempt to reinstall windows xp from teh provided original disc we get the famous blue screen advising there is a problem with the hard drive, etc. How can we reinstall the our favorite XP? The unit has a SATA hard drive.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy computer was running alright, no viruses or anything. Then suddenly, we turn it on one day and its stuck at the hp screen. Not booting, just with the hp logo. I restart it, and after 2 tries, and some beeps, it boots. Gettin all scared and worked up, I run a spyware scan and a virus scan. I found a few trogans and deleted them.
To test it, I turned it off and restarted again. Didnt have any problems. After a few hours it began to beep and got extremely slow. I turned it off. Ever since then, all I've been getting is a blank screen. Its as if its not getting power. The mouse and keyboard dont light up and the screen is blank.
If someone could help me out I'd appreciate it. I've searched the forum but the problems similiar to this that i've found involve the pc actually doing something before the blank screen comes up.
my computer comes on and appears to be starting up with the windows showing up but then shuts down before starting completely.

I just want to dump the entire thing and start over. I don't have any of the CD's for the computer. I tried a system restore and it didnt work. So i am to the point i just want to get rid of everything and whipe it clean. i can redownload all the drivers from the web site so i am not worried about that part.

my computer had started to restart or completely shut down on its own randomly when i was using it. The computer has gotten slower over the years (its about 5 years old) and when i shut down on its own again today i decided that i would just reformat the whole thing. So I just finished doing the disk recovery thing and i transferred over some old files that i had backed up from before onto another hard drive and I was just installing a game back onto the computer
a few moments ago when the computer restarted by itself again! when it came back i started my browser and it did it again a second time. Anyway I was wondering what the hell is going on with this thing, could it be some of the files i backed up and transferred over? Im running windows XP any additional info you guys need about the PC or what i have on it ill tell you, but please I really need some help I cant have this happening over and over again.
My computer died and I move the hd to a dell and it wont boot. I read that you should reinstall OS to solve. However here are my problems:
1. The computer came with XP Home installed but no disks only the key sticker on the outside of the computer housing. Manufacturer, V2 premier which I found out is just and OEM, would not give me any disks or help me in any way.
2. I think I may have installed an XP professional upgrade but not sure.
3. I have and XP professional CD (Not just and upgrade) I can boot off of but dont kown if the upgrade key will work with it or the key on the side of the computer.
I have a thorn with my Windows XP. For a long time I've had the resolution set to 1024x768.Recently I've set it to 1280x1024 and repositioned the icons - it looks better, more space When I start my PC the next day, it resets the resolution to 1024x768 and whats even more frustrating is that all the icons are placed in their old position - every time, again and again.I've tried to solve the problem with the "Clean Boot" from MS's help - it didn't work.

View 6 Replies View RelatedNow for the problem: every time I restart my computer or maybe just close and open it again after a hour, the screen resolution is at 800x600I keep resetting the resolution to 1024x768 (that's the highest resolution my laptop can take without me having to scroll down to the start menu), but the computer just resets itself everything I turn it off. It's as if I did nothing. I'm pressing the "Apply" and "OK" buttons in the window, and I can't figure out if there's something else I should be doing.

Basically, it just sends an IM to anybody I'm talking to, saying check this out: and then a hyperlink. I don't know if this is the best place to come but its the only place I could find. At first I thought it was just the internet that was messed up, but it began to freeze even though I wasn't using the internet. Randomly it would just freeze, sometimes after a few minutes others after a few seconds. I have to hit the power button because leaving it alone for a while won't work. I tried to clean the registry but it didn't work. I have a Windows XP, its a desktop computer, I have Intel, and its about 4 years old. if you need any more info please ask! Heres the problem, When installing it keeps getting hung up on 36, 16, or 9 mins. It will not pass that point. I have exhausted all of my options, I restart checked all the cables, drained the power by pulling the cord and holding the power button then plugging it back in. Then called dell and they walked me through wiping the HD clean, by starting up in DOS and walking me through the steps. Well did all that and started install again, and once again it got hung up on 23 mins
