IT has 1.8 Ghz dualcore cpu, 2 GB RAM, Win XP pro, Norton and Acer logo flashes on the startup screen. I'm guessing some major hardware problems? Maybe something not compatible?

View 3 Replies View Relatedmy computer has begun taking FOREVER when I shutdown/restart it. I shut it down about 30 minutes ago to open it up and clean the dust out and I timed it. I was waiting at the blue "Windows is shutting down" screen for 5 minutes and 15 seconds!I don't know what is wrong, I haven't changed anything recently that should have cause this, not to my knowledge anyways. The only things that I can think of that I did recently was upgrade my video card to a ATI Radeon 9600XT and set my page file to be cleared on shutdown.

It seems to be getting worse with time. Im currently running disk defragmenter hoping this issue can be resolved soon. I have a bad feeling it may be my motherboard

It also uses up a lot of RAM for some reason but the CPU usage is normal. I have another hard drive that is in a removable tray that I use, and that has all the same settings and everything, but that one is using a fraction of the RAM and runs pretty good!
View 9 Replies View RelatedHello all, at the point of exasperation here and am requesting any assistance or insight which can be provided. I Am up to 11 minutes to boot my JetBook laptop with Win XP pro I also have trouble with battlenet.com and commonaccess.com reappearing in the registry and starup, as I understand it these are malicious things too. I have used registry mechanic, trend micro, spyaware, adaware and no adware to try and track these things down, apparently to no avail. There is a message I receive when booting up looking for a registry item which is at least four (4) boxes which makes no sense, how to do a registry search to delete the value?

I have windows XP and it takes a while to boot up before going to the windows xp screen. While I'm waiting for it i see white bars that look like this:(they connect when it loads)Before this problem i had my power supply replaced. It worked normally when i got the computer back but i had some blue screens saying 'memory dump'Then the slow bar problem appeared. There was a problem with the system32/config file being missing or corrupt. It said to use the recovery console to repair but I didn't know how, so I just reformatted.

The system takes almost 3 minutes to boot to desktop! I have tried removing nearly everything in startup using msconfig. I've run virus check (Norton), Spyware Removal checks (Adaware and Spysweeper), checked hijack log for any problems (almost empty), removed temp files, tweaked performance options, themes, removed unwanted programs, emptied recycle bin...everything I can think of to speed it up. The system doesn't have alot of extras on it so I'm perplexed. I tried loading another virus program on to see if maybe norton isn't working and its missing something but I got an error message about a .dll (I should've written this down!)
80 gig Hitachi Deskstar 7k250 / WIN XP Home / P4 2.8 / 512 Mem / Every 10 minutes (right down to the split second) the hard drive puts out a 3or4 second squeal (sounds like someone playing a trumpet in the distance)I have downloaded and ran the drive stress test and it came back everything I have unplugged all cooling fans (dont worry, had a outside fan cooling down system "actually kept processor cooler") But the noise is still there every 10 minutes and is definately coming from Hard Drive. The noise is quite annoying, but according to tests it isnt any malfunction.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have had trouble recently with a worm on my windows-2000 server, I spent a few hours getting rid of the little blighter, however I now have a machine that will not boot up completely.
Being paranoid I have my c partition set as Fat32 and dual-boot so I can boot onto the drive under windows-98 and poke about a bit.
What happens is the machine comes up as normal and gets to the "Preparing network connections" - then it just stops there, I've tried safe mode but that's just the same. I've had a look through microsoft's website and checked a couple of manuals to no avail. I get an error message about the application log being full and if this is the first time you've seen it etc etc and also "some services did not start" so things are coming up in the background but I cannot log onto the console.
In all cases, it is taking very very long, if at all, for any of the accounts to come up. That is, the icon and account name stay on the screen and the window behind the account never appears.. If the window behind the account does appear, visuscan may or may not complete startup (after minutes). If it does, aim.exe does not. I also have Radio.netscape

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently had a major system failure, specifically my Windows XP will no longer fully boot. When I power on my computer, it gets to the "windows had
a problem starting up" page, where it gives options for starting in safe mode, normal mode, etc. However, no matter which option I choose, the computer cycles through startup and comes back to this same page. I have tried hitting F8 and getting to the advanced options, but I get the same result. Nothing I try works. I suspect there are corrupted sectors in the core system somewhere.
