From what I have read Microsoft plans to no longer offer Windows XP to computer manufacturers near the end of June 2008 so I think. Besides Dell Computers are there currently any other computer manufacturers still offering Windows Home or Windows Pro XP on any of their new computers or has everyone else made the switch to Windows Vista operating systems on their new computers?
View 8 RepliesHey I'm running an ASUS K8V-SE Deluxe mobo w/ Windows XP Pro. When I turn on my computer it sort of hangs up on the first screen where it shows the ASUS manufacturers logo or whatever. I believe this is where it is running POST tests in the background, I've hit DELETE before to see whats happening during this and its auto detecting Primary Drives and stuff like that. Well within 20-30 seconds of that the screen goes blank and theres a one little blinking cursor for about 3 seconds then the cursor jumps down a line and blinks twice and finally the Windows XP loading screen comes up.

I am suspicious that if I do this I am exposing myself to total destruction. One of the messages has just popped up again and the site it directs me to is FixReg32.com.

At first I thought it was just the internet that was messed up, but it began to freeze even though I wasn't using the internet. Randomly it would just freeze, sometimes after a few minutes others after a few seconds. I have to hit the power button because leaving it alone for a while won't work. I tried to clean the registry but it didn't work. I have a Windows XP, its a desktop computer, I have Intel, and its about 4 years old. if you need any more info please ask! I've had many problems with this computer but I can't afford to buy another one for another two years. Please help! I don't know what else to do.

Heres the problem, When installing it keeps getting hung up on 36, 16, or 9 mins. It will not pass that point. I have exhausted all of my options, I restart checked all the cables, drained the power by pulling the cord and holding the power button then plugging it back in. Then called dell and they walked me through wiping the HD clean, by starting up in DOS and walking me through the steps. Well did all that and started install again, and once again it got hung up on 23 mins

When I asked the guy why is that, he said that usually many items on eBay don't have the original picture. When I told him that I was expecting to get the PC licensed, he said that in the description clearly states the OS is optional. My problem: My computer automatically goes into hibernation mode and will not start up again for at least 5-10 minutes after. It gives no warning whatsoever when this happens. But if I leave it off for a few minutes it does boot up and works normal. I did put another memory stick in but it was beeping before this. View 6 Replies View Relateda friend has a Dell Dimension 4550 (P4-2Ghz, 60Gb HDD, 784mb RAM- added 512mb and a NEC DVD+/-R, circa 2002 I think?) and needs to do a clean install. He has the CD that came with it. We looked all over google and the Dell site and can't seem to find out how to do a clean install. We pressed F12 and tried to boot from the CD-ROM and thought it was going to work, but it said that we were trying to install XP on a partition that already had XP on it. I saw no option for full/clean restore.

I am currently trying to hook up my dell latitude cpx to my tv to use it as my monitor. It has an S-Video out port, and my tv has RCA ports only, so i purchased a cable which is s-video to an rca connector for my video in. Well when I boot up my laptop, when i get to the welcome screen in xp, it starts to display on my tv, but then about 5 to 10 seconds after that it flickers and the picture goes away.Ive tried everything in the display settings and also enabled everything in my BOIS, with no luck.
