I don't have the CD. I used to see OEM CDs with no product key for only $10; but, I haven't seen one lately.

I can't seem to install Windows XP Home onto the new hard drive. Everything goes fine, but then I get an error message saying it can't install the product catalogs. Is this because I'm using a reinstall CD that was provided by Dell.

When you open the internet the screen is as wide as if should be but what you bring up on the page covers about 2/3s of the page from the middle out. it leaves a couple of inches on both sides. It shows the scroll bars and all its the picture that comes up. If you click on the zoom and make it like 125% it is just right but how can you keep it there? Everytime you change pages you have to use the zoom again if it is the same way, not all pages are like that, but some are

He has the CD that came with it. We looked all over google and the Dell site and can't seem to find out how to do a clean install. We pressed F12 and tried to boot from the CD-ROM and thought it was going to work, but it said that we were trying to install XP on a partition that already had XP on it. I saw no option for full/clean restore.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just reformatted a friends computer, win XP Home, Dell 4500S. Did all the normal driver installations from Dell Resource CD. Installed SP2 from a disc. And proceeded to do the rest of 'various' program installs, firewall, antivirus, antispyware and then windows updates. At some point I arrived at a state where I could not close Internet Explorer. Not via the ''X'' or File/close. I could min and max the window. I could open 'other' Internet Explorer windows and close them just fine. I finally used the task manager to close Internet Explorer. I did a google search and came across a KB884768 from 2004. Quite frankly, I didn't understand the KB. I did the steps to reproduce the problem. Was that supposed to fix the problem or do I still have a problem? And if I do still have a problem how do I fix it. Do I need to uninstall IE6 via the control panel and then reinstall same? Problem occured twice within about 3 hours. Computer seems to be working fine

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two computers, one I use for gaming, the other for school. Both computers had 60gb Maxtor (school with lots of room, gaming with about 10 gb free). My school HD took a powder (the evil clicky noise of doom), but I was able to back up my files prior to that. Me being a quick thinker, I decide to upgrade my gamer puter to a 120gb (don't wanna go too nutso, as I am considering building a much superior computer), and put the good 60 gb in my old Athlon 700. Problem? I cannot get Windows XP Home to complete install on my gamer computer. (Athlon 700 installed just fine with 'good' 60gb).Gamer Computer: Athlon 1800+, 512MB DDR Ram 2100, KR7A Raid MOBO, GeForce3 Ti 200 (128MB DDR RAM), SB Audigy 2(AGP).
It is a RAID mobo, but i do not use the raid functionality, I did not have a problem before(I have my HD and my 2 roms on ide now). I go through the install steps, and I get to the very very end, where it states you are about to start Windows XP, and then it hangs, and thats it.I have tried to ensure there are no conflicts, I pulled out my sound card as well as my network card, and 're-seated' my video card and RAM. I have tried looking at using a winxp bootup floppy, booted into safe mode (the only error it detects is the missing RAID, no conflicts detected there). Heck, I even swapped out mouse and keyboard. I tried putting back the good 60gb back in the pc, and reformatting, but still get the same thing(sometimes the screen is black, sometimes the icky blue of xp, but that's it).I have no idea now. I did make sure that my bios was up to date before taking down the system originally, and it was, so no change was made there. Even swapped out the ribbon cables to ensure nothing was damaged on original removal.

View 9 Replies View RelatedEver since I reinstalled a few weeks ago, I'm still having problems. No doubt it's because I chose not to install all the Dell disks (since for crying out loud - who wants so much extraneous junque? Some of my problems:(1) Attachments I receive in webmail don't work. for example, someone sent me .doc attachments and when I tried either download or preview or saving to WordPad (as well as text-file) - nothing worked. All it displayed was either one line of gibberish or nothing at all.(2)Whereas prior to reinstall, my Nvidia Color-Correction tab used to display(complete with popout tab) so that I could dim my screen via Contrast/Brightness/etc., now it fails to display. This is affecting my health due to my photosensitivity! It's definitely related to my reinstallation. There's definitely stuff missing. My question is:Since the Dell Darlings failed to be so kind as to thoroughly label each CD, perhaps someone here can enlighten me re: how I should proceed in order to regain the above functions?
View 14 Replies View RelatedDell Dimension E520.The machine came with Vista but it doesn't work with any of the applications that we need. We just went out and dropped the wad of cash on Windows XP and resized the hard drive with the Vista Disk Management. When we boot into the WinXP cd, it loads all the drivers etc but when it gets to "Starting Windows XP" screen at the end of the driver loading (no graphics yet), it suddenly bluescreens and says to check for a virus or run a checkdisk. We tried this a number of times and its not working.Due to the fact that nothing is set yet for installation, the WinXP disk should _not_ be even yet touching the hard disk, just loading into RAM. The machine is new and has 2GB of RAM on it, more than enough for an XP install.Does anyone know what could be the issue? I am wondering if we have to find/install additional drivers at the initial XP disk loading, but I am not sure.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an old Dell laptop that I have from my previous job. Although the screen is partly broken, I would still like to use it as a media PC near my TV. The problem is is that it is part of a corporate network so my login credentials are needed. I can login, but when I try to install updates from Windows Updates, it asks for an Administrator's password, something I don't have. Is there any way to remove the corporate log in screen and gain Administrator rights? I have heard of the Dell System Restore that resets the computer to original factory settings. Will I be able to configure the machine as a home computer (without the Control-Alt-Delete login)? I do not mind deleting all of the computer's files (I have them backed up). I have already tried Ophcrack, but it failed to find passwords because of the corporate login.

The machine is not used for gaming but for everyday on line tasks. The on board graphics are disabled. I updated the Bios to the latest version and am running XP Pro SP3. I have the usual antivirus protection enabled, Purchased Zone internet suite, Nortons (kept disabled in case zone craps out)and malware bytes, Super anti malware, Spybot S&D and ad aware.Sometimes when I start this machine and go to Firefox,(or IE for that matter) the system will slow to the point that even audio is stunted. I have the latest java enabled so I don't think that is the problem. This motherboard has very little in the bios to tweak so that hasn't been tampered with too much (latest bios update was installed after the slow started). Whenever the slow down occurs if I restart the machine it will run up to speed for awhile then eventually slow down again. My old P-4 3.02 was sooo much faster that I regret ever having built this new clunker. . Is there a known problem with this mb or proc that I haven't found yet?
