I have an old Dell laptop that I have from my previous job. Although the screen is partly broken, I would still like to use it as a media PC near my TV. The problem is is that it is part of a corporate network so my login credentials are needed. I can login, but when I try to install updates from Windows Updates, it asks for an Administrator's password, something I don't have. Is there any way to remove the corporate log in screen and gain Administrator rights? I have heard of the Dell System Restore that resets the computer to original factory settings. Will I be able to configure the machine as a home computer (without the Control-Alt-Delete login)? I do not mind deleting all of the computer's files (I have them backed up). I have already tried Ophcrack, but it failed to find passwords because of the corporate login.
One of our visiting consultants reset the Administrator password, and has now forgotten it. I cannot install updates/software with the administrator privilidges - for this Ineed to have the password, which we do not know. Is there any way of resetting this password?
My Brother bought a used laptop from a stranger but it works and everything but the password. Here are more details: It's a Dell Inspiron 2100 and the operating system is windows 2000 professional. The laptop does not include a CD or Floppy drive but it has 1 USB port. now when my Brother bought the laptop we powered it on and it worked fine until a "Log On to Windows" box appear and you need to type a user name and password to log in but we don't have the password and we cannot contact the guy he bought the laptop from so what should we do?
In the last week I have three times tried to log on to my Windows XP Home system and been told after multiple tries that my password was incorrect (no, Caps lock wasn't on). Each time I was forced to log on to my wife's account and reset my password through the control panel. I was then able to log on but by the next day, I was seeing the same problem. I have now had to reset my password three times. This problem has never occurred before in 4 years with the system. My wife has reported the same problem, but claims that rebooting fixed it. I rebooted and was still unable to log on. I strongly suspect a virus, but I have VirusScan Professional on my work license and it updates the .dat files every day. I checked the logs and nothing found. I know about creating and using a password reset disk, but that doesn't fix the problem I'm having.
One option is that somebody else is messing with my password, but my son is off at college and my wife would not know how to do it. I asked my daughter about it and she says she didn't do it, and she is very trustworthy It has happened again since last night without her being on the computer, anyway. I am a very experienced computer user (20+ years) and type in dozens of passwords a day, so I know it's not a problem with my typing.
I need to remove sotware from my computer but I don't have the Administrator password and that's the only Admin that I have. How can I reset the Admin password?
Installed an antivirus on the machine and when it restarted it was asking for a password. employee B gave it the password and the computer acted like it was going to start, but instead he said it did some strange things and now the password does not work. how can i reset the password if it does not get to where windows is running.
I want to be able to reset the password promt pop-up. I clicked on don't remember anymore passwords and I don't know how to find this prompter to let it remember passwords.
I reset an account password by typing in "control userpasswords2 " in the Run command and clicking on an account and clicking reset password. When I came back to that account on which I reset the password on, some of the things are reset. I noticed that one thing that is reset is the MSN Messenger background images. For the Background of MSN Messenger, I had other downloaded background pictures in the Backgrounds tab, but now I don't. There only saved in my folder.
My Dell crashed and I lost all pictures. Now I can't get in to my HP Pavilion 6645C Windows 2000 because it says I don't have correct password. I didn't think it had one when I quit using it. Friend gave me NT Kernal Password Reset but it is blank!
I purchased a computer at a garage sale and I do not have the administrator password to download and update my computer. When I do so under my user name, it does not let me and states "you need administrator privileges". How can I reset and change the administrator password?
I have bought a new laptop recently and i followed the steps into entering to windows. However, when i reached the window log on popup, i cant seem to go pass it even if i entered the same password and username taht i created. Is there any way that i can reset the startup and setup?
I am running win xp the computer is connected to a network but not a server all logons are made to a local computer there are two admins on the computer me and my dad. He insists on having admin rights but with admin rights he can reset my password without knowing it even though we are apart of the same group so when I go away he removes my password and goes through my files and stuff. Can I make separate groups or something to stop him being able to remove my password.
I have two machines with Windows 2000 that tell me my password will expire in so many days and I must input a new password. How can I set my password permanently so I won't see this annoying reminder?
first things first I completly locked myself out of my own comptuer. Then I broke into my own account and created a password reset disk. Now, anyone who types in a wrong password can reset it. In other words no matter the password you enter it can open my account. I'm the only user on this computer, no guest , admin, nothing. I'm trying not to create a new account in order to correct this probelm.
i have try to using my friends Bootable cd to reset(clear) my windows XP professional "administrator" password, because i forgot that administrator password. This tools very powerfull, just boot this cd while power on the pc, than will erase the administrator password, after that can login administrator account as no password needed, than can go to system change and remember again the new administrator password. Any body know this tools product name? where can get it or download it?
Whilst trying to set up a wireless connection on my PC, i inadvertently set up a network with my PC. not knowing what i had done. I used the 'Network Connections' wizard in the control panel. in this wizard i did input a passwrod as one of the fields needing filling in. I reset my computer - note i am using a different computer now! - and it asked me for a password to 'Log onto Windows'. i tried using the password i entered in above wizard set-up, but this is not working. have tried all variations but with nothing working. i cannot get into my computer! is there a way i can bypass this screen - i can see none! this is not an 'official' network that has been set up, so there is no administrator to re-set the password.
I was trying to repair a corrupt windowssystem32configsystem file using the recovery console - that did not work. Now, when I use the recovery console I am asked for an administrator password, which of course I do not know. A further complication is that the machine is configured with RAID (striped disks using Intel Matrix), so booting from any kind of recovery disk requires further drivers to be loaded. The ERD password reset tool I am using (not sure of the name but it is Linux based, and free) seems to allow support for RAID, but I can not get it to work (NTFS signature missing). I have tried 'fetching' the drivers from a floppy, but that does not seem to help. So where can I go from here? Are there any other password recovery tools that definitely support Intel Matrix Raid?
a friend has a Dell Dimension 4550 (P4-2Ghz, 60Gb HDD, 784mb RAM- added 512mb and a NEC DVD+/-R, circa 2002 I think?) and needs to do a clean install. He has the CD that came with it. We looked all over google and the Dell site and can't seem to find out how to do a clean install. We pressed F12 and tried to boot from the CD-ROM and thought it was going to work, but it said that we were trying to install XP on a partition that already had XP on it. I saw no option for full/clean restore.
For security reasons, Microsoft does not allow parents (computer administrators) to check on, maintain, adjust or otherwise enter their kids' (limited users) XP profiles without either resetting their passwords or waiting for them to come home and being confrontational about it.Ideally I would like to be able to log on to a limited user account from my administrator account without tampering with anyone's passwords-resetting them or otherwise. Actually, I have little interest in the (step) kids' personal life and stuff. Alternately, perhaps you may help me with my ultimate goal: limiting screensaver activity:
I have a laptop(dell latitude cpi) my kid entered a password and now I can't access windows. Every time I turn it on a message comes on saying:This computer system#xxxxx is protected by a password authentication system you can not access the data without the correct password Please type in the primary or administrator password. My kid does not remember what password he used. Does any body Knows how to remove the password since I can not access the bios either?
Checking computer for a friend. It is a Pentium 4 2.80GHz running windows xp, bios ver. A01, 512MB memory. They called Dell and were told to take it to a technician, which I am not, and they cannot afford it.When turned on it showed the Dell logo and then asked for a password which they had no idea what it was. It would not do anything at all. After doing a lot of reading on this forum and others I decided to remove the password by changing the jumper on the motherboard that said ctr password for,30 seconds, and then putting it back in place and start the computer again. It then booted to a screen that said " We appologize for the inconvenience but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. After some more explaining of possible causes it had the options of starting in, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Safe Mode with Networking, Last known good configeration, Start Windows normally. Use the up and down arrows to highlight your choice. When I do highlight any one of the choices and hit enter the computer stops responding at all.
I can now get in and check the system info etc. It showed no password. It also shows no cdrom installed and it has a cdrom and dvd. It only shows the hard drive and floppy drive. The hard drive is a Segate Barracuda 7200.7 80 Gbytes.I ran the diagnostics that are on the computer and everything checked out except the Read Test on the hard drive. It said IDE Disk Error Code 0F00.0244 Msg Block 77765935. Uncorrectable data error or media is write protected.I then tried to run a virus check from Fix-It Utilities on floppy. After the second disc it stopped and said it was unable to read drive c to restore boot area.Did I do something to the hard drive by removing the password and is there any way to check the hard drive for a virus? I don't understand why Dell told them to take it to a tech.
im using windows server 2003 with symantec antivirus so i can mass update and install it across the network, im now after a firewall with the same corporate style mass configuration and updates and so on, is there any free tools like that, or otherwise if its decent for the price, whats a good profesional/corporate firewall?
I have Windows XP Pro, Corporate ed. with sp2 (its all legal mind you) and i need to be able to burn it to a CD and be able to pop it in my new computer and boot up XP (cuz my new comp is just preformatted HD only)
Volume Licensed WinXP Pro is obviously the official name as has been pointed out ad nauseum. "Corporate Edition" doesn't exist (allegedly, actually I personally don't care if it exists or not), is seemingly subject to more demands for proof of existence than God himself and of couse the term "Corporate" means its a pirated version of the said Volume Licensed WinXP Pro which has also been screamed about like its in the bloody constitution or something. I call Volume Licensed WinXP Pro "Corporate" because its easier to say and write for that matter than "Volume Licensed WinXP Pro". Thats it it, just works better nothing more.
In all the time XP has been on release and I have been working with it in the industry I have never yet heard anybody at all refer to "Volume Licensed WinXP Pro" or anything remotely similar; they all from IT managers to shop floor builders call it "Corporate" or similar....
I was using Latitude D600 and Latitude D620. After completeing a Repair install of Windows XP, Windows update will not install. I didn't get any error messages. It downloads all of the updates but fails to install.
