im using windows server 2003 with symantec antivirus so i can mass update and install it across the network, im now after a firewall with the same corporate style mass configuration and updates and so on, is there any free tools like that, or otherwise if its decent for the price, whats a good profesional/corporate firewall?
View 7 Repliesfirst of all, under the settings for window's firewall, i am not able to choose whether or not i want to enable it or disable it. it is set as disabled and both the enable/disable buttons are greyed out and i cannot click it. second, my auto update keeps turning itself off. after setting it back on, it will turn off the next time i boot my computer. third, i'm having some networking problems. i can connect onto the other computers of my network, however the other computers cannot connect to me. are all these problems related in anyway?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an old Dell laptop that I have from my previous job. Although the screen is partly broken, I would still like to use it as a media PC near my TV. The problem is is that it is part of a corporate network so my login credentials are needed. I can login, but when I try to install updates from Windows Updates, it asks for an Administrator's password, something I don't have. Is there any way to remove the corporate log in screen and gain Administrator rights? I have heard of the Dell System Restore that resets the computer to original factory settings. Will I be able to configure the machine as a home computer (without the Control-Alt-Delete login)? I do not mind deleting all of the computer's files (I have them backed up). I have already tried Ophcrack, but it failed to find passwords because of the corporate login.

"Corporate Edition" doesn't exist (allegedly, actually I personally don't care if it exists or not), is seemingly subject to more demands for proof of existence than God himself and of couse the term "Corporate" means its a pirated version of the said Volume Licensed WinXP Pro which has also been screamed about like its in the bloody constitution or something. I call Volume Licensed WinXP Pro "Corporate" because its easier to say and write for that matter than "Volume Licensed WinXP Pro". Thats it it, just works better nothing more.
In all the time XP has been on release and I have been working with it in the industry I have never yet heard anybody at all refer to "Volume Licensed WinXP Pro" or anything remotely similar; they all from IT managers to shop floor builders call it "Corporate" or similar....
I am using eTRust EZ firewall and just recently started having problems with it and the effect on my pc. First, it wouldn't let me select allow or ask under the access internet or trusted column under the program control. Now, it won't let me access the internet if the program control is turned to low, medium, or high. The only way for anything to get to the internet is if the setting is turned off

Then NETWORK MAGIC pops-up and says {YOU ARE NOW CONNECTED} then I have to manually turn on IE6 button to go online, almost like the page {the page cannot be displayed} wants to come up first instead of the connection?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI need to have network drive on my Windows XP computer. In order for a software to work, there needs to exist a network drive, named N, existing on my PC. Since there's not a second PC to link to, what I did was to created a directory named est on the same PC , share it out, and then, map a network drive, named N, to it. When my PC has an Ethernet cable connected to a switch, Windows XP will see that N drive (existing on the same PC). The moment I disconnect that Ethernet cable from the switch, the N drive is gone. Is there a way to have a mapped network drive on XP (as mentioned above), without the need to have a network cable connecting that PC to a switch?

And then it appears as a "Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC", whereas I actually have a D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 adapter. Furthermore, I get no icons (at all) in the Network Communications window. So if I want to change any settings of my LAN, for example, I can't, because I can't select the LAN icon or right-click on it. The LAN is working though. The current driver for the Realtek adapter which is listed is a MS driver.

It takes a long while when you click one icon in the “My Network Places” for that to open up and go to the next directory or when just first displaying the computers in “My Network Places”, it goes so slow.
I use Windows Workgroup on the LAN to share out internet. Everything else, other than browsing the network, works great. The internet browses nice and fast.
This morning I opened My Network Places while my pc was still loading all the programs at start-up and "My Network Places" was fast. After a few minutes it was back to normal low pace. Now I guess it is something running on my pc slowing it down. Is it maybe to do with XP Service Pack 2? Before installing SP2 the network browsing on my pc is fast, after installing SP2, it is slow. Other computers on the network without SP2 browse the network quite fast.
All the pc's on the network has XP Pro.
I notice Windows XP has a firewall. I was told by a friend it does not work and I need to download one (zoneAlarm). Does XP's firewall serve any purpose?

After installing a new hard drive I upgraded my xp home edition which ran on sp1 to sp2 like I did before. I had windows firewall for sp1 but for some reason it's deactivated for sp2.
