View 1 RepliesI have Windows XP Pro, Corporate ed. with sp2 (its all legal mind you) and i need to be able to burn it to a CD and be able to pop it in my new computer and boot up XP (cuz my new comp is just preformatted HD only)
View 4 Replies View RelatedVolume Licensed WinXP Pro is obviously the official name as has been pointed out ad nauseum. "Corporate Edition" doesn't exist (allegedly, actually I personally don't care if it exists or not), is seemingly subject to more demands for proof of existence than God himself and of couse the term "Corporate" means its a pirated version of the said Volume Licensed WinXP Pro which has also been screamed about like its in the bloody constitution or something. I call Volume Licensed WinXP Pro "Corporate" because its easier to say and write for that matter than "Volume Licensed WinXP Pro". Thats it it, just works better nothing more.
In all the time XP has been on release and I have been working with it in the industry I have never yet heard anybody at all refer to "Volume Licensed WinXP Pro" or anything remotely similar; they all from IT managers to shop floor builders call it "Corporate" or similar....
I currently have xp pro loaded on my computer but it was a bad install and i want to install xp home which i like a bit more. When i go to install xp home, it won't let me because it automatically assumes i want to upgrade and i can't choose a clean install. I can't boot from my cd rom so i can't go through bios.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been using Windows XP Professional for several years and am quite happy with it. My roommate has a desktop that she bought some years ago and it came with Windows XP Starter Edition installed. Lately I've been trying to help her upgrade from her XP SE to XP Pro but before doing this I have some questions. Is Windows XP SE at all upgradable to XP Pro? The reason I ask this is because:1.1 I accessed "How to install or upgrade to Windows XP" on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316941, but it does not mention Windows XP Starter Edition as one of the options of OS to be upgraded (only mentions Win98, Windows ME and Windows 2000 Pro 1.2 I also accessed http://www.comztek.com/Admin/ProdMan...1.asp?name=228 and it says "You may not upgrade to Windows XP Professional from Windows XP Starter Edition,. as this goes against Microsoft's End User License Agreement (EULA) 2. In case Windows XP SE can in fact be upgraded to XP Pro, I have 2 questions:2.1 To start the installation should I simply boot the desktop normally and then insert the Win XP CD on the CD-ROM unit and choose the option "upgrade"?2.2 Will files in the desktop and installed programs be preserved? Or will my roommate need to install all the program she uses again? What about local files of Outlook Express and the MSN Messenger emoticons? Will these be lost?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently reinstalled the Home Edition and now after rebooting the computer goes directly to the Home Edition. I changed the boot file too. When I boot up I get the two options, but when I log in to the Professional Edition I get an error. I suppose that the way I name the Professional Edition is not okay.If it is the problem, where can I find the proper name of the Professional Edition installed in my computer.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an old Dell laptop that I have from my previous job. Although the screen is partly broken, I would still like to use it as a media PC near my TV. The problem is is that it is part of a corporate network so my login credentials are needed. I can login, but when I try to install updates from Windows Updates, it asks for an Administrator's password, something I don't have. Is there any way to remove the corporate log in screen and gain Administrator rights? I have heard of the Dell System Restore that resets the computer to original factory settings. Will I be able to configure the machine as a home computer (without the Control-Alt-Delete login)? I do not mind deleting all of the computer's files (I have them backed up). I have already tried Ophcrack, but it failed to find passwords because of the corporate login.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed XP Pro on an old machine for my in-laws (about a year ago). I have now purchased them a new computer, but it came w/ XP Home. I would like to upgrade the new machine from Home to Pro. I will be removing XP Pro from the old machine & reformatting the hard drive. The MS site indicates this is possible, but doesn't mention anything about licensing restrictions or activation. I tried to find the licensing agreement to see what it said about transfer a license to another computer but couldn't find it. I'm also curious how the activation process will go... Will I be able to just do the online activation or will I need to do the phone activation since I'm transferring a license.
View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently, Microsoft modified the licensing terms for OEM editions. Previously, purchasers were permitted to apply OEM licenses to their own computers provided the licenses were purchased with qualifying hardware. However, the Windows OEM System Builder EULA now prohibits purchasers from applying OEM licenses to computers they are building for themselves, friends, family members, etc.As explained in the revised license comparison, "[OEM licenses] must be preinstalled on a PC and sold to another unrelated party." (Emphasis added.) These revised licensing terms apply to all OEM versions of Windows currently sold, including Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Please keep these revised terms in mind when building your own computers
View 24 Replies View RelatedHow does windows system builder licensing work? I need to understand how it works before I decide to buy into it. Lets pretend i'm buying this Here are my questions: How many times am I allowed to install this on the same pc (same hardware)? Does it allow upgrading major parts within the PC without requiring a new license each time? Can I install it on multiple PC's without requiring a new license each time? I don't care much about MS support not being included, but is it still available if i chose to pay for it?
If I sold my PC I could sell the license with it (transferrable) is this true? Would I need to re-purchase a license when I build a new PC if I transferred it already.
I recently did an install of Windows XP pro on a few boxes. The key I used is supposed to be a volume license key. As far as I know, volume keys require no activation. However, upon booting up the machines it does in fact require activation. Am I missing something here? Should I just call Microsoft and have them activate them?
