View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to get rid of whatever is causing my computer to act like it's firewalled.I'm currently studying in Japan and have ADSL in the dorms. It seemed to be firewalled, but no one else I asked really knew much about it, so I just kind of accepted it and moved on. But recently one of my friends in Tokyo has gotten a new internet connection, which her computer works perfectly on and gets amazing speed. But when I connect, it still seems I am firewalled. Using PC Flank's scanner pcflank.com all my ports are stealthed while hers are closed.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using eTRust EZ firewall and just recently started having problems with it and the effect on my pc. First, it wouldn't let me select allow or ask under the access internet or trusted column under the program control. Now, it won't let me access the internet if the program control is turned to low, medium, or high. The only way for anything to get to the internet is if the setting is turned off

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Windows Firewall automatically turns off every time i reboot. Is this because Norton Antivirus has its own internal firewall? If it is because of Norton, is it ok to leave the Windows Firewall turned off? I'm concerned that my computer isn't adequately secured.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to solve this for quite some time now. I go into the control panel, firewall settings. On the first tab, you get to choose your firewall setting (on/on with exceptions/Off). All of my options are greyed out and I have no options to start the firewall.Clean computer (just spent the last 3 days debugging it). I am sure that it has something to do with what was downloaded by my son but even after cleaning up the computer to get rid of spyware, malware, trojans, backdoors, viruses, etc I am left with the same result.
View 11 Replies View RelatedA few days ago my windows firewall warning was on. While attempting to re-enable the firewall through the security center I received a message "we're sorry, the security center could not turn on windows firewall" and then told me to do it manually. Attempting to open the windows firewall gave me this message "Windows firewall settings could not be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the windows firewall/Internet Connection sharing service? Yes/No.Clicking Yes, gives this message: "Windows cannot start the Windows firewall/Internet connection sharing (ICS) service." With no further explanation. I re-installed SP2 with no improvement.
View 7 Replies View RelatedLately i've been battling a virus infection with a w32.spybot.worm. Thanks to symantec antivirus corporate edition (which can detect but never repair) and microsoft antispyware software i've eliminated it. Yet today a new infection popped up from a file "eraseme_12604.exe" in my system32 (i dont know how it got there). I figured I might as well enable the XP firewall to prevent new infections from happening, but when i went to the firewall settings they were set to OFF, and all options (including the ability to turn it on) were greyed out. Did the virus modify my registry somehow and how can i remidy the situation. I am running windows XP prof with sp2

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to get the SP2 firewall to allow NNTP type transfers without success. The only way I can get my newsreaders to work is by turning off the firewall, something I don't really want to do.I am currently using Thunderbird but have tried Xnews and Xana news. Xnews simply times out while the other two eventually get the articles but a snail's pace with the firewall on. Turn it off and the news just
zips down.
I know this is an old topic, but I thought I'd try to get the latest opinions on this. I'm trying to decide whether to get another firewall. Everybody says the problem with the XP firewall is that although it controls
incoming connections, it doesn't control outgoing connections. I already have the free ZoneAlarm firewall on my Win2K computers, which works fine. And I could add it to my new XP Home Edition computer. But apparently some people complain that ZoneAlarm adds log files that grow large, etc. etc. so I figured I'd avoid adding another firewall *if* it wasn't really necessary. What's the current consensus, if any?
