Am running Windows XP Home Edition SP 2 w/Norton Internet Security Windows Defender, Spyboot Search and Destroy.My question is, why does my Windows Firewall keep shutting itself off? I put a shortcut on the desktop so I could check on it and turn it on when it was off.

First, it wouldn't let me select allow or ask under the access internet or trusted column under the program control. View 3 Replies View Relatedrecently when i use grabit newsreader my pc shuts off by itself. it had never done so for the half a year before now when i used it.i think its my pc overheating. i tried dusting the inside a bit, and downloaded speedfan to show u guys what the temps are. the first pic is without grabit running. and the second pic is with grabit running. before i go thru a bunch of malware/spyware tests, which i dont believe is the problem, could someone please first rule out a simple fan problem?
View 14 Replies View RelatedProblem started with cd burner not writing through windows media player.I installed fireman and everything seemed okay.PC then starts rebooting itself at random.The past week it either won't boot up at all(it powers on but all the lights just flicker in a steady pattern while the screen remains blank) or it boots to the point right before the desktop loads then goes into the flicker mode.By holding down f2 or esc I can usually get the flicker to stop. The pc then tries to reboot again or just shuts off competely.I'm trying to do a xp repair this morning by booting off the cd.It will get down to 36 min to go and then goes into the flicker mode.

A blue screen comes up that says something along the lines of, "An unexpected error has occured and windows needs to shut down..." Then it gives some numbers, then underneath the only thing I remember it saying was "beginning dump of physical memory". There was more to it but I didn't write it down so can't remember, sorry! It's a blue screen with white writing. I've run anti-virus, I've defragmented, I've checked windows for errors and checked for adware.

I hope that someone can help as I'm sure that it's a pretty simple thing to correct, For the past few days if I leave my pc for about 15 minutes it just turns off as if it has gone into some kind of standby. I have to turn the monitor back on and wiggle the mouse and it starts back up with the screen exactly as it was before it went off. It isn't the same as going into standby as when i do that I have to use my user password to get back in. I don't have a screensaver at the moment but it kinda reminds me of one.

I'd be playing and my mouse would just completely stop working, anywhere from 1-10 or so seconds. I tried using a different mouse, a mx500 and I still get the same problem. I've tried different usb ports, different mouses, and anything I could think of. These malfuntioning occurences happen quite often, maybe 2-3 times every five minutes, and my mouse completely turns off for whatever amount of time. My computer is about 3 years old, but I keep it running like the day I bought it. I plan on formatting really soon, within the next few days and that might solve the problem. Please let me know of any reason this problem is occuring, and what I can do to fix it

It lets me log in and ill be at the main screen where my icons are.Then after 2 minutes it always shuts down. If i dont log in and stay at the name menu screen it will still shut down after 2 min.The screen goes black and thats it. I cant see anything anymore. The power on the computer remains on though, cause the green power light is still on. I tried to do a quick virus scan but 2 min isnt enough time to do it.

I started it up after it shut down, then it shut down again, only quicker. Tried to power on again but it powered off immediately, then it wouldn't power on at all. I gave the machine a rest for an hour then tried again. It worked for about two hours after that then it started shutting down again. I've run a few virus scans (in safe mode and in DOS) and nothing has come up.

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy laptop (running windows XP) keeps shutting down on its own every few hours, it will shutdown once, then I will turn it back on and it will shut down again, and it does this like 4-5 times before I can get it to work again, and then a few hours later it will keep shutting down again, and the pattern keeps continuing. Since it is a laptop.... I dont think it can be overheating or anynthing like that, and it has a power supply plugged in all the time and the battery is in, so it cant be anything like running out of power. View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a recurring problem with a folder shutting itself on my PC.PC Spec: Athlon XP2000, Asus A7V8X-X mb, 1024 ram, Asus 5200Geforce graphics card, 1 x Maxtor Diamondmax9 160GB IDE HD (Master), 1 x Western Digital 120GB HD (Slave). Windows XP Pro SP1 (Patched with XP Autopatcher.I use my slave HD for my music collection, this has been done by creating main folders for each genre of music and then subfolders within these folders for each band. I decided to customise each band folder by putting a jpeg pic of the band on each folder. This was all going fine until one of the main genre folders began closing itself everytime I clicked on it (this happened 2-3 secs after opening the folder), then my windows desktop icons dissapear and 2-3 secs later refresh themselves, but the genre folder stays closed down. The folder with the problem has 26 sub folders (band folders) and is the largest of all the folders so far. Is there an issue with using thumbnail views on too many subfolders contained within a main folder? Is there a setting I can change to allow lots of folders to have thumbnail jpeg's attached without the main folder closing down? When I view the folders in list format (without thumbnails) the folder stays open. I am hoping someone has a solution this problem that will allow me to keep the folders with the thumbnail jpeg view on them as it looks alot better.
