Shutting Down But Its Restarting

System Keeps Shutting Down (restarting) After Booting?
Dec 29, 2007I just did a fresh restore of Windows XP Media SP2 from manufacturers restore DVD, and downloaded all of the Hot Fixes and updates from Microsoft. Everything was fine for about a day, but now the system boots, I get to the black screen where it asks you if you want to start Normally or in Safe Mode, or last known configuration that worked. No mater what I choose, it just shuts off.
This is the reason I did the full system restore in the first place.I dont know if this is related, but when I hook up the hard drive to my laptop to scan for viruses and spyware (you never know), the hard drive keeps shutting on and off. But it doesnt do that when its hooked up to the tower in which it came from, so it might just be the device Im using
Programs Require End Now - Restarting Or Shutting Down
Dec 1, 2007It's driving me batty! I'm running XP Pro on a Dell XPS, which is several wonderful years old. Every darn time I restart or shut down, I get a combination of the following windows requiring manual End Nows. I'm the human END NOW machine:
1. agent.exe
2. AUMMsgWndName
3. Office Watson
4. ctfmon.exe
5. explorer.exe (usually this has to be ended now a couple of times)
6. MCCWSA Window
7. CMI Server
8. Hidden Fax Window
XP Pro Keeps Shutting Down / Self-restarting / Showing Blue Screen
Jun 2, 2006I'm experiencing a great problem with Windows XP Professional.It keeps shutting down (sometimes, I activate the screensaver to prevent it), self-restarting or showing blue screen (the one that's suggesting me to deactivate caching and/or shadowing).Then, yesterday, I realized that it's also unable to burn discs or copy the big files from them (he activates that blue screen again).I tried to reinstall Nero and almost every driver, but it didn't work. I tried it with the older versions, too.

May 19, 2008After I used Fix-it Utlilies the program erased essential system folders. So now when I do check disk it reboots, flashes a blue screen real fast (so fast I can't even read it) then restarts the computer, restarts check disk, restarts the computer, and on & on. It won't stop doing this till I interrupt check disk at the start by hitting any key but then I end up with a black screen with instructions which include safe mode, safe mode with networking, start windows normally & last known configuration
I can't boot from an installation CD to do a "repair" since Windows was preinstalled in the drive so I have NO CD. Does system recovery work?, who knows, I'm a noob and have no idea how to use it. The only thing I've tried to fix it was 2 things : 1) use system restore which failed; 2) use run> sfc /scannow but this file checker is also broken and will barely start before it errors and stops. I don't know what else to do besides reformat

I have tried system restore which is unsuccessful, I have done "last known good configuration" which also doesn't work. I'm in grad school and need my computer
2000 Pro-keeps Restarting And Restarting After Sp4?
Sep 18, 2005the computer boots up and goes to the windows 2000 screen but then the next screen would be the desktop but instead it reboots and goes to the same spot the 2000 screen but never makes it to the desktop, this happens over and over. I tried to go into safe mode but does the same thing tried command prompt only so I could type in SCANREG but it just reboots again I can't get anywhere to do anything.
The last thing I tried was last known good configuration. I clicked on it and a page comes up with all the writing I hardly got a chance to read it when it reboot again. but under the first paragraph wher it says something about last know good configuration it has a space and the it says project 1 like I could have click on that if I would have been fast enough.

Oct 20, 2006I just bought this computer about 4 months ago and over the last few days it has been randomly restarting on its own. I ran adaware and scanned for viruses with norton and they found nothing. Yesterday it restarted a couple of times, one time I had firefox and paint shop pro open, the other time, I had outlook express open. I'm not sure what could be causing this, the only thing I've installed within the last two days was the latest expansion pack for sims 2.

Jul 15, 2009My wife fired up her PC this morning and it would not complete the boot process. Shows Windows XP page, then COMPAQ page, then black screen, then back to Windows XP page. Just keeps going in circles. I have switched it off and tried again but usually with same results. A couple of times I have gotten page saying there was a problem and asking if I wanted to start in safe mode. I've tried this. Seems to rapidly scroll through a bunch of lines of info, then quickly go back to the reboot cycle. I can go into setup or recovery from the COMPAQ page. I want to avoid having to reload all my wife's applications though. I don't have the original XP disk. I have current antivirus/spyware (AVG paid version, installed about a week ago). We've made no other recent hardware/software changes, although my daughter was on the net last night!

Mar 3, 2008A couple of weeks ago my computer started to act very strangely and after sending numerous windows errors it began to restart on its own for about 5 mins then restart again.It continued in this loop and actually the loop became smaller to the point where I couldn't even get onto the log on screen and it just kept saying press 'ctrl, alt, delete'.When I did it just restarted to the same point (small loop).I asked a few IT bods and they said that it couldn't read from the hard drive and managed to get a XP boot disk and it then started to run but not to my log on page. The page had a 'run' button instead of start.I copied over all of the files from the disk to the hard drive and ran it from there.Then hey presto I was back on to my log on page and home page.Then exactly the same thing happened.The error pop ups began and it began to shut down and restart.

Nov 20, 2007My computer keeps restarting. I tried everything I could find on google with no prevail Within minutes of turning on my computer it restarts. I followed one suggestion un checked an option "restart computer when computer crashes" and now it just freezes within minutes of startup. It doesn't, however, freeze in safe mode if that makes a difference.I've tried pretty much every virus/spyware program in the book so I don't think thats the problem.

Jun 21, 2006recently when i use grabit newsreader my pc shuts off by itself. it had never done so for the half a year before now when i used it.i think its my pc overheating. i tried dusting the inside a bit, and downloaded speedfan to show u guys what the temps are. the first pic is without grabit running. and the second pic is with grabit running. before i go thru a bunch of malware/spyware tests, which i dont believe is the problem, could someone please first rule out a simple fan problem?

Aug 6, 2005Problem started with cd burner not writing through windows media player.I installed fireman and everything seemed okay.PC then starts rebooting itself at random.The past week it either won't boot up at all(it powers on but all the lights just flicker in a steady pattern while the screen remains blank) or it boots to the point right before the desktop loads then goes into the flicker mode.By holding down f2 or esc I can usually get the flicker to stop. The pc then tries to reboot again or just shuts off competely.I'm trying to do a xp repair this morning by booting off the cd.It will get down to 36 min to go and then goes into the flicker mode.

A blue screen comes up that says something along the lines of, "An unexpected error has occured and windows needs to shut down..." Then it gives some numbers, then underneath the only thing I remember it saying was "beginning dump of physical memory". There was more to it but I didn't write it down so can't remember, sorry! It's a blue screen with white writing. I've run anti-virus, I've defragmented, I've checked windows for errors and checked for adware.

Dec 23, 2005I've been searching about the site but can't find anything that relates to the problem that I've been having. I hope that someone can help as I'm sure that it's a pretty simple thing to correct, For the past few days if I leave my pc for about 15 minutes it just turns off as if it has gone into some kind of standby. I have to turn the monitor back on and wiggle the mouse and it starts back up with the screen exactly as it was before it went off. It isn't the same as going into standby as when i do that I have to use my user password to get back in. I don't have a screensaver at the moment but it kinda reminds me of one.

I don't think it has anything to do with the programs I use at the time because it seems to restart even if I'm not doing anything but listen to music. There are also times when my computer just stops. However, sometimes the error messages are different. I've received 0x0000007F and 0x000000DE error messages before. I've tried replace my old 300 watt power supply with a 420, but I still get error messages. I've run memtest and found no errors with my memory. After restarting my computer, the desktop has disappeared. When I try to right click to bring up a menu, nothing happens. Setup Is Restarting Message
May 23, 2007Tried a Repair using XP CD on a 2 year old computer with XP home on it because it was not quite booting to the desktop.It took me all the way through the setup process when it restarted the computer and now presents with the message "Setup is restarting." and then a blank screen with a mouse (which is moveable) appears.The XP disk is still in the CD drive and HD Tune did not pick up any bad sectors when I plugged the disk drive into a USB port on my other computer.Is there any DOS commands from the Recovery section I should be using to check something ?

Dec 20, 2006i havn't been able to install any games because my directx 9.0c was acting up but ive been on the windows website and fixed it. However, when i play games i have a problem which has been continuing for a very long time. When i load up a game it works alright, loads up then my computer restarts. for example, i have downloaded the eragon demo just for the sake of it and i load it up, it loads the demo and jsut as the controlled gameplay starts my computer restarts everytime. It is the same problem on every game that ive had for along time and i don't know what is wrong or why.
