Aug 15, 2007I want to be able to reset the password promt pop-up. I clicked on don't remember anymore passwords and I don't know how to find this prompter to let it remember passwords.

Wallpaper Reset To A Spyware Popup Ad
Aug 19, 2005I was online with yahoo messenger and I tried to go to a site and realized that my homepage addy had been changed, I figured spyware. I didn't think much about it until my wallpaper changed to something that appears to be an ad for spyware removal software with a "hotlink". I signed off and tried to run my spyware program and got an error message that it could not be loaded. I then tried to run my virus program, same thing. I then tried to get online to make sure my virus program was updated, same thing. It has also did this with several other programs as well as not allowing me to reset my computer to an earlier date (system recovery) nor will it allow me to get rid of the spyware ad wallpaper.

The laptop does not include a CD or Floppy drive but it has 1 USB port. now when my Brother bought the laptop we powered it on and it worked fine until a "Log On to Windows" box appear and you need to type a user name and password to log in but we don't have the password and we cannot contact the guy he bought the laptop from so what should we do?

Mar 31, 2007In the last week I have three times tried to log on to my Windows XP Home system and been told after multiple tries that my password was incorrect (no, Caps lock wasn't on). Each time I was forced to log on to my wife's account and reset my password through the control panel. I was then able to log on but by the next day, I was seeing the same problem. I have now had to reset my password three times. This problem has never occurred before in 4 years with the system. My wife has reported the same problem, but claims that rebooting fixed it. I rebooted and was still unable to log on. I strongly suspect a virus, but I have VirusScan Professional on my work license and it updates the .dat files every day. I checked the logs and nothing found. I know about creating and using a password reset disk, but that doesn't fix the problem I'm having.
One option is that somebody else is messing with my password, but my son is off at college and my wife would not know how to do it. I asked my daughter about it and she says she didn't do it, and she is very trustworthy It has happened again since last night without her being on the computer, anyway. I am a very experienced computer user (20+ years) and type in dozens of passwords a day, so I know it's not a problem with my typing.

Now, when I use the recovery console I am asked for an administrator password, which of course I do not know. A further complication is that the machine is configured with RAID (striped disks using Intel Matrix), so booting from any kind of recovery disk requires further drivers to be loaded. The ERD password reset tool I am using (not sure of the name but it is Linux based, and free) seems to allow support for RAID, but I can not get it to work (NTFS signature missing). I have tried 'fetching' the drivers from a floppy, but that does not seem to help. So where can I go from here? Are there any other password recovery tools that definitely support Intel Matrix Raid?

I tried on my other computer that also has a username Jeff, it could open the share folder correctly. But I tried on my third computer, which does not have username Jeff, then it cannot open the share. It gave cannot access share error. The problem is is that it is part of a corporate network so my login credentials are needed. I can login, but when I try to install updates from Windows Updates, it asks for an Administrator's password, something I don't have. Is there any way to remove the corporate log in screen and gain Administrator rights? I have heard of the Dell System Restore that resets the computer to original factory settings. Will I be able to configure the machine as a home computer (without the Control-Alt-Delete login)? I do not mind deleting all of the computer's files (I have them backed up). I have already tried Ophcrack, but it failed to find passwords because of the corporate login.

Nov 18, 2005My win xp installation on the hard disk 'A has gone bad, therefore, its not able to boot up. But I can access 'A' through my other hard disk 'B' which has a good copy of win xp. The problem is that my hard disk 'A' had a user acct. which was password protected, therefore, when I browse using hard disk 'B' windows, I cannot access the user folder in hard disk 'A' as it says access denied. Now how can I remove the password of the user in my hard disk 'A' so that I can access the user folder.
Remember that the win xp is corrupted on hard disk 'A', so it does not boot up. So I guess something has to be done through command prompt only, as I can goto the command prompt by booting using windows cd and then selecting the repair function, and then entering the admin password.

Aug 9, 2007I have looked at the answers you have given for this subject, and none seem to apply to me. I lost my boot disks in the hurricane, and my son has somehow changed all the passwords, including the administrator one, and then locked the computer. When I reboot, even in safe mode, I come immediately to the "Control-Alt-Delete" screen. We have tried every password we could think of, and the users now just get the error that we've been locked out. I have tried every Administrator password I would have set, including no password at all, to no avail. So I cannot get to a command prompt even from Safe Mode.
Honestly, I would be happy to just reformat, but I can't even get to the DOS prompt, and I don't have a DOS reboot disk for this computer (lost too!). No other computers are running that version of XP, so I can't make one from one of those either.

May 3, 2008I am using XP Home as a "server" to just host some files for everyone to access. We do not have enough in the budget right now to upgrade to XP Pro or 2003 and I was wondering if anyone had a fix for this. When I am on a client machine and try to access the "server" it will prompt for the Guest password. I type in the Guest password I assigned and it shows me all the shared folders. The only thing is that it doesn't prompt for the password on all machines. EX: Client1 prompts for pass, but Client2 doesn't. I have all the windows firewalls turned off.

Jul 18, 2005I have multiple users on one machine. The PC is constantly going on standby and locking them out. I have set the power settings for several users, but i cannot set them for all.I have a script running that resets the power configuration to "always on" in the registry, but it does not overwrite the standy and hard disk settings under power management. If they are set to 15 minutes, it stays at 15 minutes even if the cofiguration is changed from Home to Always on.
Also I cannot have the password on resume unchecked by default for all users. It has to be manually done. I ahave triied registry and GPEdit settings for all of these but no joy.

Dec 14, 2009About every five minutes or so we get a pop up for our hp 1300 all in one. The main box pop up is as if we just installed new software for a printer, which of course we have not, and then a box pops up that has 1300 trb in the header and then says windows is configuring, and then another box pops up that says 1300 help in the header and then says it is also configuring. Nothing will print and we have one doc in que that we cannot cancel.
