Apr 22, 2006When I log into a website the computer is not asking me if I want the computer to remember the password and username so that I don't have to type it again the next time that I visit the same website! The problem is only in IE cause in MSN explorer is still asking me.

I already have an existing workgroup and wanted to change the computer from my office domain to my home workgroup. I went into control panel and took it off the domain and put it on my workgroup. I went to start it this morning and I am unable to log in. XP asks me for a password and I try to enter my old office password and it doesn't log in. I tried logging in as Administrator w/ no password, as "kitchen" with no password, and without any username or password at all and none of them let me log in. How do I get back into my computer?!?!?!?

Aug 28, 2005I need to reformat the entire computer. It's an old laptop that was used for business and therefore has all of these programs on it that I do not want anymore. Things like asking for a username and password at startup. I know you guys may say "boot from the XP CD" but will this erase EVERYTHING? By the way, I do want to erase everything.

I was in the middle of loading mcafee, which seemed to be the beginning of the problem. I do not know how to get around this. Click on OK to terminate the application.When I click OK the desktop will not come up and the server is useless. Nov 18, 2005My win xp installation on the hard disk 'A has gone bad, therefore, its not able to boot up. But I can access 'A' through my other hard disk 'B' which has a good copy of win xp. The problem is that my hard disk 'A' had a user acct. which was password protected, therefore, when I browse using hard disk 'B' windows, I cannot access the user folder in hard disk 'A' as it says access denied. Now how can I remove the password of the user in my hard disk 'A' so that I can access the user folder.
Remember that the win xp is corrupted on hard disk 'A', so it does not boot up. So I guess something has to be done through command prompt only, as I can goto the command prompt by booting using windows cd and then selecting the repair function, and then entering the admin password.

Aug 9, 2007I have looked at the answers you have given for this subject, and none seem to apply to me. I lost my boot disks in the hurricane, and my son has somehow changed all the passwords, including the administrator one, and then locked the computer. When I reboot, even in safe mode, I come immediately to the "Control-Alt-Delete" screen. We have tried every password we could think of, and the users now just get the error that we've been locked out. I have tried every Administrator password I would have set, including no password at all, to no avail. So I cannot get to a command prompt even from Safe Mode.
Honestly, I would be happy to just reformat, but I can't even get to the DOS prompt, and I don't have a DOS reboot disk for this computer (lost too!). No other computers are running that version of XP, so I can't make one from one of those either.
Home "server" Wont Prompt For Password For All Machines?
May 3, 2008I am using XP Home as a "server" to just host some files for everyone to access. We do not have enough in the budget right now to upgrade to XP Pro or 2003 and I was wondering if anyone had a fix for this. When I am on a client machine and try to access the "server" it will prompt for the Guest password. I type in the Guest password I assigned and it shows me all the shared folders. The only thing is that it doesn't prompt for the password on all machines. EX: Client1 prompts for pass, but Client2 doesn't. I have all the windows firewalls turned off.

Jul 18, 2005I have multiple users on one machine. The PC is constantly going on standby and locking them out. I have set the power settings for several users, but i cannot set them for all.I have a script running that resets the power configuration to "always on" in the registry, but it does not overwrite the standy and hard disk settings under power management. If they are set to 15 minutes, it stays at 15 minutes even if the cofiguration is changed from Home to Always on.
Also I cannot have the password on resume unchecked by default for all users. It has to be manually done. I ahave triied registry and GPEdit settings for all of these but no joy.

Mar 9, 2008Here's my system - Thinkpad T41P running Win XP Pro SP2. Here's my problem. I do not seem to be able to change a username. I can go into Control Panel and the username looks right, my first name, followed by a space, followed by my last name. But when I tried to connect to the c: drive on this machine from another computer on my network, for example from my MAC, I get asked for a username and password and then get told that I do not have permission to access this server. I can try connecting as another user, for example my wife's account, which is set up the same way, first name, space and last name. That connect's fine. So I narrowed the problem down to my username. When I went into the Properties dialogue box for the c: drive and the sharing tab and then checked the permissions, I see my name and then in parentheses THINKPADfirstname. IIf I click Add

The hand cursor never becomes a cursor for me to type in passowords to user accounts.
