View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently brought an old laptop from work to my home to use as a kitchen computer. I already have an existing workgroup and wanted to change the computer from my office domain to my home workgroup. I went into control panel and took it off the domain and put it on my workgroup. I went to start it this morning and I am unable to log in. XP asks me for a password and I try to enter my old office password and it doesn't log in. I tried logging in as Administrator w/ no password, as "kitchen" with no password, and without any username or password at all and none of them let me log in. How do I get back into my computer?!?!?!?
View 10 Replies View RelatedWhen you use any Windows plaform (XP, 2000, NT4, 98...) to logon to domain,the logon dialog box always shows the username and domain (last successfulattempt).
Is it possible to clear the username (so username and password field are empty when next logon)?
It is because we have some computers that shared by many different users. I don't want to let them know who was the last successful logon
I need to reformat the entire computer. It's an old laptop that was used for business and therefore has all of these programs on it that I do not want anymore. Things like asking for a username and password at startup. I know you guys may say "boot from the XP CD" but will this erase EVERYTHING? By the way, I do want to erase everything.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have never had a password set up on my computer (XP home edition) and one day the computer requested a username and password at logon (never had a logon screen pop up). I was in the middle of loading mcafee, which seemed to be the beginning of the problem. I do not know how to get around this. I have tried safemode, but the computer still asks for a username and password for safe mode.

Click on OK to terminate the application.When I click OK the desktop will not come up and the server is useless. I have seen some other information about this error, but most of them assume that the computer is accessible. I have not been able to get to a desktop normally or through any safe mode options.

The fingerprinter work - except that it seems that it scans my finger as soon as I put it on the pad (I hear the sound confirmation beep) - but then it takes like 7 - 15 seconds beofre it actuallly populates the web username and password, and then submit button. I can type in the username and password faster than using the fingerprint reader?

During that time I can start Task Manager, but there is nothing obvious in there. Heartbeat is still going and processors are very low usage. View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using XP Home as a "server" to just host some files for everyone to access. We do not have enough in the budget right now to upgrade to XP Pro or 2003 and I was wondering if anyone had a fix for this. When I am on a client machine and try to access the "server" it will prompt for the Guest password. I type in the Guest password I assigned and it shows me all the shared folders. The only thing is that it doesn't prompt for the password on all machines. EX: Client1 prompts for pass, but Client2 doesn't. I have all the windows firewalls turned off.

Right-click databases -> Restore Database
I mark 'from device', click the '...' button & select 'File' in the dropdown, then brows to the file itself. Under 'select the backup sets to restore' I check the only checkbox there, then in the 'To Database' I select the name of the database in the file (a new DB name appears there as you select the file).
XP Pro SP2, all latest updates. When I reboot, I can correctly sync to a time server, but after an unknown amount of time it goes back to saying "The RPC server is unavailable" instantly after clicking Update Now, regardless of what server I tell it to sync to. I also noticed that if I view my nForce Networking Controller status, then click Properties and go to the Authentication tab, everything is greyed out. If I hit OK without changing anything (I can't change it even if I wanted to), a message pops up saying "An unexpected condition occured. Not all of your requested changes in settings could be made" and just goes back to that window. I have to hit cancel to close it

Here's my system - Thinkpad T41P running Win XP Pro SP2. Here's my problem. I do not seem to be able to change a username. I can go into Control Panel and the username looks right, my first name, followed by a space, followed by my last name. But when I tried to connect to the c: drive on this machine from another computer on my network, for example from my MAC, I get asked for a username and password and then get told that I do not have permission to access this server. I can try connecting as another user, for example my wife's account, which is set up the same way, first name, space and last name. That connect's fine. So I narrowed the problem down to my username. When I went into the Properties dialogue box for the c: drive and the sharing tab and then checked the permissions, I see my name and then in parentheses THINKPADfirstname. IIf I click Add
