Program Shows On All Programs But Not On Username

May 20, 2007

I have Windows XP Pro, SP2.

I have a situation where a program shows on "All Programs" but not in C:Documents and SettingsusernameStart MenuPrograms or C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersStart MenuPrograms in Explorer. How can I see that shortcut or whatever in Explorer?

Also, on C:Documents and SettingsusernameStart MenuPrograms and C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersStart MenuPrograms there appear items (files, shortcuts, whatever) of the same name. What's going on here?

Open With Shows Duplicates Of Same Program

Sep 20, 2005

How can I prune down the number of items shown in the context menu for certain file types? I have a situation where several erroneous programs are listed as "Open With" possibilities, the result of a trial-and-error attempt on my part to find the proper file viewer.I also notice that, in the "Open With" options that list "Recommended Programs" and "Other Programs," there are two listings of the same program. How can I eliminate the duplicate?

Removed Programs By Add/Remove Option But Still In Program Files?

Jul 3, 2005

I removed a program via the add/remove programs and it seemed as though everything was removed... no traces of it on the desktop or via the start up menu. However, browsing through, (is it still windows explorer?), I saw that the folder is still there and full of goodies. Can I just delete the entire main folder? I get nervous in and around there since something is always sharing something from somewhere else.

Username Changes - THINKPADfirstname

Mar 9, 2008

Here's my system - Thinkpad T41P running Win XP Pro SP2. Here's my problem. I do not seem to be able to change a username. I can go into Control Panel and the username looks right, my first name, followed by a space, followed by my last name. But when I tried to connect to the c: drive on this machine from another computer on my network, for example from my MAC, I get asked for a username and password and then get told that I do not have permission to access this server. I can try connecting as another user, for example my wife's account, which is set up the same way, first name, space and last name. That connect's fine. So I narrowed the problem down to my username. When I went into the Properties dialogue box for the c: drive and the sharing tab and then checked the permissions, I see my name and then in parentheses THINKPADfirstname. IIf I click Add

Unable To Change Username And Password?

I went into control panel and took it off the domain and put it on my workgroup. I went to start it this morning and I am unable to log in. XP asks me for a password and I try to enter my old office password and it doesn't log in. I tried logging in as Administrator w/ no password, as "kitchen" with no password, and without any username or password at all and none of them let me log in. How do I get back into my computer?!?!?!?

Click on OK to terminate the application. When I click OK the desktop will not come up and the server is useless. I have seen some other information about this error, but most of them assume that the computer is accessible. I have not been able to get to a desktop normally or through any safe mode options.
