Desktop Shows Up But No Icons Or Taskbar Or Start Menu?

The problem in that desktop is showing up but there are no icons no taskbar no start menu. only wallpaper. pressing alt ctrl del shows up taskmanager but there are no adware or other such processes running up only system processes, i can run programs through it and other things like softwares. last thing she did was paste cliparts from cd to hard drive.

When I click on my Programs Menu and it shows my programs the columns are huge. I don't know how they got so big but I would like to make them smaller because there is no room for new installed programs to show in the columns.

Icons - What Program Do They Open In By Default?

I recently installed Nero software for burning DVD's and aparently I gave the software permission to open all icons under Nero instead of where they opened from before. When I go to my icon folder to choose an icon, instead of seeing all of the icons I have placed, there, all I see is about 100 Nero icons.Could uninstall Nero and I suppose that would correct the problem.

Right-Click Menu Default

The problem is this - everytime I open up a folder within WinXp, a search window pops up instead. So, the only way I can view any specific folder, I have to right-click and then select 'open'. The right-click menu shows 'search' as the default, and I have browsed the registry to see if I can reset it back to 'open'. I have also browsed around the net to see if there is instructions to fix this issue, but I have had no luck.Whoever can solve my issue - it would be greatly appreciated.

ou can go to windows explorer and access C drive or D drive or the others but when you open My Computer-where it usually had the C:drive and the cd-rom drive etc it just shows the little flashlite lookiing for them but never finds them. Is there something I can do to get the icons back into my computer?

Blue Screen Shows After Select Booting Menu

I run XP SP2 on Athlon 2600 and 512 MB RAM and last night I shut it down as usal. When I turn my computer on this morning, it started to boot, but after few seconds, the long message appears, something like: "We are sorry for inconvenience but Windows can not start... " and it tells me to either boot into Safe mode, use last configuration, or start Windows normally. The last option is highlighted. But after that, blue screen flashes for just a moment (long enough to see there is some text but not long enough to read it), and then it goes back to start... detecting hard drive and stuff. It keeps looping like that forever. I tried to go to safe mode, but the same things happen. It goes back to start and then a "Start Windows normally" is Highlighted again.

How can I get my XP theme and Classic theme options to return to the pull-down menu in the themes tab of the display properties window.I don't know what I did but my pc went all funny and they just vanished in a blink of an eye. Shows Icons Very Large And Cover Whole Screen

My computer shut down and when I turned it back on, all the icons were very large and they covered my whole screen,. A lot of popups started coming up that said it found new hardware(about 10 or 12). I restored it back a couple of days and now everything is back to normal. I hope I didn't make a mistake doing this. I ran my ewido and then my AVG. If it happens again, maybe I should just trash it.

How can I prune down the number of items shown in the context menu for certain file types? I have a situation where several erroneous programs are listed as "Open With" possibilities, the result of a trial-and-error attempt on my part to find the proper file viewer.I also notice that, in the "Open With" options that list "Recommended Programs" and "Other Programs," there are two listings of the same program. How can I eliminate the duplicate?

I have a problem with setting OE6 as my default email program in IE after I installed Office 97. Since I really wanted to use OE6, I uninstalled Outlook. Now my OE6 works okay with my dial-up internet access. No problems with sending and receiving emails, but I cannot set it to be the default email handler using the Tool->Options popup window. And I also found that in IE, Tools-> Internet Options popup -> Programs tab, there is no choices for the Email field. This problem has caused me to be unable to click on email addresses of people on the webpages and other problems with 3rd party softwares.

On boot up I get a notice that file americ~.dat could not be found. Everything is working ok as far as I can tell but this is busting my chops and annoying the hell out of me. I'm running Windows XP professional and when I change my desktop icons (my computer, my documents, my network places, recycle bin full and & empty) they revert back to the default settings when I restart my system. This doesn't effect my wallpaper, start menu settings or personalized colors, only the icons. The file that I'm using is an *.ico file which I know works fine. (I've used this file when I was still using windows 98.) I've also tried making a "theme" with the saved settings and that doesn't seem to work either. I'm wondering if it's some simple setting that I'm over looking. Something stupid like "Restore default icons on restart"...I'd rather not edit my registry if I don't have to.

I am using Finity Soft Memory Manager and this program says Free Ram 54%, Memory Load Index 44%, and CPU 100%. How do I find out what programs are running other than using Task Manager which shows no programs running?
