I recently installed Nero software for burning DVD's and aparently I gave the software permission to open all icons under Nero instead of where they opened from before. When I go to my icon folder to choose an icon, instead of seeing all of the icons I have placed, there, all I see is about 100 Nero icons.Could uninstall Nero and I suppose that would correct the problem.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy caps lock on my keyboard works in complete reverse. with the "caps lock" on all of the letters are in small caps and when it is off all of the letters are in large caps. also my shift keys do not work. With the caps lock on the periods and commas give me "larger than" and "smaller than". the only way to get a period is to go to the "numeric keyboard. also I can"t reset the cursor when I try to go back to an earlier place it highlights the words in my folders I am unable to choose only one file When I click on a file it highlights every file from the beginning of the list to the one I have chosen.

When I click the icon, it starts to open the website, but then locks & will not open. All icons will open except the ones that I have added that link to things like fantasy football sites or game sites etc. I am running windows XP on a Dell laptop.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe pc is xp sp2... apon latest restart all icons on desktop and start menu all go to the same program a solitaire game. tried avg and even restore but something has blocked all but this one program. restore reads systam restore log missing but i can get to it, it seems to be blocked also. internet reachable through open with/choose other program and can check mail but thats about it. anyone know if theres a new bug out there doing this do i now have a 1200 dollar solitaire machine.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with setting OE6 as my default email program in IE after I installed Office 97. Since I really wanted to use OE6, I uninstalled Outlook. Now my OE6 works okay with my dial-up internet access. No problems with sending and receiving emails, but I cannot set it to be the default email handler using the Tool->Options popup window. And I also found that in IE, Tools-> Internet Options popup -> Programs tab, there is no choices for the Email field. This problem has caused me to be unable to click on email addresses of people on the webpages and other problems with 3rd party softwares.

Is there a way to set the default view to open folders with the document tree showing?I have tried switching it to the classic view, but that doesn't have the versatility of the full document tree. View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows XP professional and when I change my desktop icons (my computer, my documents, my network places, recycle bin full and & empty) they revert back to the default settings when I restart my system. This doesn't effect my wallpaper, start menu settings or personalized colors, only the icons. The file that I'm using is an *.ico file which I know works fine. (I've used this file when I was still using windows 98.) I've also tried making a "theme" with the saved settings and that doesn't seem to work either. I'm wondering if it's some simple setting that I'm over looking. Something stupid like "Restore default icons on restart"...I'd rather not edit my registry if I don't have to.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Win XP and, using the built in Zip feature,have zipped up 14 files that include one .exe file and one .bas file.When I try to Extract All files it extracts all except these two files.It says that the files have been blocked to protect the computer, then I can click on a link to find out how to unblock the files but the instructions to do so don't make sense.The instructions tell you to save the file, then right click/properties/unblock, but I can't see how you can save a file if it hasn't been unzipped.How can I stop the .exe and .bas files from being blocked

When I left click some icons, the "search" window opens instead of the program I wish to open.When I right click these same icons, the menu box opens that gives me choices ( open, explore, send to, copy etc) as it should However, the top selection in the drop down box (highlighted) is "search" instead of "open".As a routine now, I must right click and icon, choose "open" from the drop down box, and go about my business. View 9 Replies View RelatedIn the Explorer folders in my Windows XP Pro, suddenly, I no longer have the icons I normally use--such as X for delete, and the cut, copy, and paste icons, which are mainstays of my work in the Explorer panels.
When I right click in the upper panel of the folder and open the customize panel, I put the icons I need at the top of the folder. Yes, I know that the panel on the left in the folders has many of the functions that the icons serve, such as delete, rename, etc. BUT... after I put all the icons I need at the top, as soon as I close and reopen the folder, the icons have disappeared!!What is going on? How come? Home come I can't set the icons I need for all Explorer folders at one time??I'm hoping someone can help me fix this!
I have a PC with Windows XP and for some reason, many of my program icons changed to the icon of another program. This is my Mom's computer and lord only knows how this happened, but for example, when I click start > all programs > microsoft office > word, it's icon is not the word icon, but the icon for another program on the computer. It is like this all over the place.When I click on word, it starts opening the program that is associated with the icon and not word. Any idea why this may be happening and how I can fix it? I tried right-clicking on the program > properties, but the find target button is grayed out so I can't change the program it's associated with.

Recently noticed that when I left-click on any of the icons of the Hard-disk drives and/or Devices with Removable Storage within 'My Computer', the 'Search' Option opens up by default instead of the 'Open' option, like in other folders. Likewise, when I right-click on the said icons, the 'Search' option is topmost & the 'Open' option has been relegated to second position. I would like the Search option to come first. Can't remember whether this was so from before or changed recently.
I have used Norton Partition Magic 8 recently to resize my partitions.
