Document Download Not Let Me Do Open
Jul 13, 2005I recently received a military registration form which I had to download to my documents. It downloaded successfully. The problem is, it will not let me open it. When I double click on the ICON I get an error message. To wit:"The command cannot be performed because a dialog box is open. Click OK, and then close open dialog boxes to continue." I do have Norton Antivirus 2005 and a Pop Up Blocker activated. If this is the problem must I deleted them both before I can read my document or, being a beginner, am I simply missing something obvious.

Oct 12, 2008I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 with Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3. I had Internet Explorer 7, and for about a month I would get a "Error: Operation Aborted" every now and then and I would have to open a new window, so Friday morning I downloaded Internet Explorer 8 Beta to see if it would remove the problem. It didn't, so I tried Firefox, but I found both IE 8 and Firefox to be annoying, so I decided to remove them both and go back to IE 7, but this caused a whole different problem. I think that I might have done something wrong while removing the programs because now IE doesn't work at all. Now whenever I click on IE, the IE screen will flash for about a second and then disappear.

May 26, 2010I was having this problem on my old install of XP, which desperately needed a new install. In any case, I'm now using a freshly installed version of XP, and everything has been running perfectly for about 2 weeks. Suddenly, this one problem reappears: The File Open / Save As dialog box (aka Windows Common Control / comctl32.dll) takes forever to open (20 seconds to 60 seconds). I just did a chkdsk and defrag, and that did not solve the problem. Also, there are no network drives connected which could be slowing things down. This happens in both MS programs (such as Notepad) and 3rd party programs (such as Firefox).

Apr 30, 2006I have a WindowsXP. My computer won't let me open any programs and won't download any programs either. I've tried to open Spybot but it immediately dissapoears. Also i've tried to download Hijackthis and my computer won't let it download. Soon after the download window dissapears as well. My internet is working fine, it's just the programs that won't seem to open up. Am i infected? If there isn't any solution should i just re-format my computer? Don't know how else to show without the log.

I do have it set so that it remembers (most of the time) to re-open that folder with the file view it was in when it was closed, but I want XP to open every new and old folder with the "file details" view. Mar 15, 2007OS: Win XP Pro Default Browser: Firefox When I click on a link to download, the dialog box does not appear. At some point in time I checked the box that says "Always perform this action ... yada/yada" (don't remember the exact words. It said I can change this setting any time by doing ?(don't remember). I do know I had the Save to disk box checked Now when I try to download, it automatically saves everything to desktop.

This file I believe is of some 2.5GB and my download speed is approx. 2mb. So when trying to download this file, it indicates that will take approx. 25hrs to complete.Is there anyway of capturing what's downloaded in a temp file and then pick up again to continue the download in number of sessions till completion of the full download. At present if I shut the page or turn PC off, it starts the download again from scratch when restarting.

Apr 4, 2006In the Explorer folders in my Windows XP Pro, suddenly, I no longer have the icons I normally use--such as X for delete, and the cut, copy, and paste icons, which are mainstays of my work in the Explorer panels.
When I right click in the upper panel of the folder and open the customize panel, I put the icons I need at the top of the folder. Yes, I know that the panel on the left in the folders has many of the functions that the icons serve, such as delete, rename, etc. BUT... after I put all the icons I need at the top, as soon as I close and reopen the folder, the icons have disappeared!!What is going on? How come? Home come I can't set the icons I need for all Explorer folders at one time??I'm hoping someone can help me fix this!
Can't Open Chm Files / Cannot Open File
Aug 4, 2005Tonight I tried opening a chm file and it failed, with that error message. This happens for any chm file I have tried. I don't know when this broke, I know I used to be able to open chm files with no trouble but I can't pinpoint the last time it worked.I've searched around and found some references to this, but no solution -the only relevant MSKB is for Win98. I tried regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx, deleting the hh.dat files, clearing IE's file cache; nothing has helped. I haven't made any significant recent changed to the system that I can think of.

Download The Standalone File And Manually Remove The .pdf
Nov 21, 2007Tech guy has altered something on her XP OS to append a .pdf extension to any file she downloads from the net. I understand that it was for her own protection as she can't execute any viruses, but it needs to be disabled to allow her to upgrade her flash player. I know the work around is to download the standalone file and manually remove the .pdf but would prefer to nip the problem in the bud.
