Can't Save Download Anda Save
Mar 17, 2007I noticed this problem like a week ago. I tried to download and save some vids, but the windows that says the percent of your download just freezes. I thought it was a problem with the vid, but now I see it's the computer.Whatever I try to dowload it's the same problem. What can it be? It was fine before.

May 26, 2010I was having this problem on my old install of XP, which desperately needed a new install. In any case, I'm now using a freshly installed version of XP, and everything has been running perfectly for about 2 weeks. Suddenly, this one problem reappears: The File Open / Save As dialog box (aka Windows Common Control / comctl32.dll) takes forever to open (20 seconds to 60 seconds). I just did a chkdsk and defrag, and that did not solve the problem. Also, there are no network drives connected which could be slowing things down. This happens in both MS programs (such as Notepad) and 3rd party programs (such as Firefox).

The download goes ahead, but at the point of writing the file to my local hard disk, I get the following error message, then the file is deleted!!!"Windows Security Warning Windows found that this file is potentially harmful.To help protect your computer, Windows has blocked access to this file."I wouldn't mind, but I haven't changed anything that would have enforced this, can't find any way of disabling / configuring this functionality and I trust the file and its source (a good example is the Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus software downloads!)

Dec 25, 2008I can not launch 90% of my apps, word, excel, adaware, when I click on the program it launches, and I get the .exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Then it shuts down that program. I can not add any new favorites to my internet explorer, does the same thing. I can not download a file and save it, I can download a file and run it though, not always successfully. Pretty much the pc is becoming crippled I have run registryfix7 (had it installed) fixed what was listed, but no helpI have done a full virus scan and spyware scan with Windows LiveOneCare, nothing shows up.

Sep 13, 2005actually at my work place i'm trying to download some hindi mp3 music files but somehow it not working. as I'm trying to right click on the song link and by selecting 'save target as' its openning the dailog box to save it but at this point it trying to save as HTML documents instead of mp3 format.if i try manuaaly to change file extension from html to mp3 than i can not play this file as it gives error about class-file of media player.I checked on Internet explorer tools internet option and security tab and verfied download file is enabled.

Feb 17, 2006I downloaded microsoft frontpage extensions resource zip file and accidentally sent the extracted files to desktop. (119 files) I did not save the file at download but just ran the zip file and the extracted files opened in desktop. I deleted the files from my desktop and recycle bin. Every time I start/reboot, these 119 files continue to open, cluttering my desktop. I need the formula/pathway to follow to get to the destination in regedit.exe hkey_current_user start up folder with instructions on how to delete these extracted files so they will stop opening to my desktop at start.

Apr 30, 2005Running Windows XP SP2 and I have just noticed in the couple days, that whenever I use an open/save as dialog box (to open/save a song in from firefox, to send a file in messenger etc), all the files are getting listed and arranged by name in reverse order (z-a).They were always getting displayed by name in the right order, which I assume is the default, until recently.Any idea on how I could get it back that way? I know it is a minor issue, but it has really decreased the speed with which I look through my system.I've tried arranging the icons by name, but it never seems to save.

If I try to open it, it seems to download, but then the relevant application never opens, and I get a message that I may not have the appropriate permission. So I have to save it, then open the application myself, then open the saved file.

Mar 20, 2008My husband's computer which gets scanned for viruses every day, all of sudden cannot open or save any file. The first error message states that the file is in use by another user (this is an unnetworked laptop). When we click on Notify, it says the file cannot be found or server unavailable. This happens for every Word, Excel, file that we have tried. I have tried to check for microsoft updates but even the temp directory cannot be written (says that it is read-only) to so I cannot install anything.

Jul 13, 2005I recently received a military registration form which I had to download to my documents. It downloaded successfully. The problem is, it will not let me open it. When I double click on the ICON I get an error message. To wit:"The command cannot be performed because a dialog box is open. Click OK, and then close open dialog boxes to continue." I do have Norton Antivirus 2005 and a Pop Up Blocker activated. If this is the problem must I deleted them both before I can read my document or, being a beginner, am I simply missing something obvious.

I had Internet Explorer 7, and for about a month I would get a "Error: Operation Aborted" every now and then and I would have to open a new window, so Friday morning I downloaded Internet Explorer 8 Beta to see if it would remove the problem. It didn't, so I tried Firefox, but I found both IE 8 and Firefox to be annoying, so I decided to remove them both and go back to IE 7, but this caused a whole different problem. I think that I might have done something wrong while removing the programs because now IE doesn't work at all. Now whenever I click on IE, the IE screen will flash for about a second and then disappear.

Apr 30, 2006I have a WindowsXP. My computer won't let me open any programs and won't download any programs either. I've tried to open Spybot but it immediately dissapoears. Also i've tried to download Hijackthis and my computer won't let it download. Soon after the download window dissapears as well. My internet is working fine, it's just the programs that won't seem to open up. Am i infected? If there isn't any solution should i just re-format my computer? Don't know how else to show without the log.

The dialog box indicates that "m3u" or m3ulist" files are an unknown type.. This wasn't always the case, at one point things worked just fine. How do I get my computer to recognize and "open" these files without having to "save" them and play them from the saved file? Once saved, they will play in Windows Media Player.

But whenever you attempt to save by Ctrl+S, or the by clicking File>Save or File>Save As the program automatically closes. This has been a consistent behavior for the 3 softwares.I'm using Windows XP 64 bit OS and had no error messages of any sort except that these programs just close themselves when a save attempt is done.I did virus and malware scans by Avast, ESET Nod & Kaspersky and nothing was detected.Reinstalling isn't an option for me now as I don't have any optical drive... besides, this may be very hard for me but I'm willing to suffer for the sake of learning.

I am allowed to save the file to the desktop, and of course, can then create a new folder directly on the desktop with the context menu, and etc. It will allow me to create a new folder anywhere else and save any type file being downloaded into that new folder.It simply will not allow me to create a new folder on the Desktop.Could this be some kind of registry alteration?

Jul 26, 2005In any applications, when I click save as, that box hangs for at least 35-40 seconds before I can tell it where to save the file. Exemple: In IE, if I download a file, I'll click save as, and wait 35-40 seconds before I get a response from the computer. I have tried just about anything I know to fix this without having to reformat. I have the same dehavior in messenger or any of the other programs I use. The problem seems to be with the open/save as dialog box. I run WinXp Pro, SP2.
