The "Download Complete" "Open Folder" Button Ignored
Jun 3, 2008
When a download is complete, the dialog box opens, announcing "Download Complete" and when I Click the "Open Folder" button the "Download Complete" dialog box closes but the Target Folder doesnt not open. First noticed this after SP3 in this XP Home environment.
Wheres the Honor the 'Open Folder' button setting to get this functionality back?
Having a problem with the install of Service Pack 3. The update keeps picking it up but halfway through the install a popup appears to say " an additional download is needed to complete the installation.Install service pack 3 again " . Well I have installed 6 times now and the same happens every time, it doesn't say what the additional download is or where to get it from. I'm running XP which has been taking forever to start up up recently ( about 15 mins ) don't know if it's related or not?
i use firefox and i hover over a video in Internet, and a button used to appear saying "download this video" with the real logo. now the button doesn't show up. i'm only interested in downloading legal, non-copyrighted stuff, of course.
Did a (SlipStream SP2) "Repair Install". Now have NO IE of any version. And no Defrag; as IE is required. There IS a: C:Windows$NtUninstallie7beta1$ with ONLY--- "spunist.exe".When I attempt to reinstall IE7B, I'm informed that it is already on the computer. Any attempt to install IE7A or IE6 indicates that there is a newer version already installed.
I was deleting one email in an outlook folder (a personal folder), and the entire folder and contents--all emails--disappeared. Can't find them anywhere...They did not go to the delete folder. Any way to retrieve them? Do you know what happened? (I have Windows XP.)
How do I get the dialoge box to not close automatically after a download is complete? I have to minimize my browser, and open my desktop folder called Downloads to click on the downloaded item.
Why is it that some programs won't open with the left mouse button? I have to use the right button and click on the "open" line in the drop-down menu that appears.Sometimes the left button works after about 15 to 20 seconds.
The left hand mouse button will not work on the desktop icons, nothing will open unless I use the right and open button. I'm running Win XP hope SP2. I have tried all the usual mouse settings that came with windows and the software for the mouse. The mouse I am using is wireless but I have also tried others with the same result
When I double click using the left mouse button the file does not open. Instead the seach screen comes up. This has just started happing lately. How could I remedy this situation.
I wouild like to know where this resides in either 'Windows' or the registry. When I open 'Advanced' the 'Apply' button is greyed out, so I would like to repair it.
I have a shared folder which contains many folders for many users on my network and to make users folders recognisable we chose to fix a folder picture of every folder with the picture of the folder owner. The problem is that those folders never have a constant folder picture on all of my network computers as the picture always changes for some reason, I've tried to set permissions on thumb.db file
I was just changing some folder icons in Folder Options>File Types and now when I click on a folder it opens in OneNote! I went to File Types>File Folder>Advanced and under the Actions it reads: Add to VLC find Lock folder with Folder Lock Open as Notebook in OneNote Play with VLC
The first two of the 3 check boxes underneath are ticked. I have no idea what the default action was before, but I don't see anything resembling simply open a folder. Can anyone help me reset the default action or create a new one to open the folder?
Why can't I get XP to open every folder using the "Details" option? I do have it set so that it remembers (most of the time) to re-open that folder with the file view it was in when it was closed, but I want XP to open every new and old folder with the "file details" view. Seems like a simple thing, but I can't get XP to understand that's what I want.
I was scanning my computer using spyware sweeper and i saw it scanning all these files that i hadn't put on my computer so i saw where that file was which was C://documentsandsettings/admin/Complete, so i got all the way to admin but there was no Complete folder! so i clicked show hidden files but it still wasnt there! i think its taking alot of my memory.
Start Regedit and navigate to:HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet Explorer Change the value of the string Download Directory to the new path you want to assign as IE's Default Download directory (i.e. "D:Download" has been assigned as my new download folder).
I recently received a military registration form which I had to download to my documents. It downloaded successfully. The problem is, it will not let me open it. When I double click on the ICON I get an error message. To wit:"The command cannot be performed because a dialog box is open. Click OK, and then close open dialog boxes to continue." I do have Norton Antivirus 2005 and a Pop Up Blocker activated. If this is the problem must I deleted them both before I can read my document or, being a beginner, am I simply missing something obvious.
I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 with Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3. I had Internet Explorer 7, and for about a month I would get a "Error: Operation Aborted" every now and then and I would have to open a new window, so Friday morning I downloaded Internet Explorer 8 Beta to see if it would remove the problem. It didn't, so I tried Firefox, but I found both IE 8 and Firefox to be annoying, so I decided to remove them both and go back to IE 7, but this caused a whole different problem. I think that I might have done something wrong while removing the programs because now IE doesn't work at all. Now whenever I click on IE, the IE screen will flash for about a second and then disappear.
WinXP uses Documents & Settings as the default folder to store downloads, Word files, etc. How can I make another folder the default, so that when I start to download a file, it automatically opens MyDocs New. I know I can change the defaults on Word, Excel. but I want to change WinXP.
I have a WindowsXP. My computer won't let me open any programs and won't download any programs either. I've tried to open Spybot but it immediately dissapoears. Also i've tried to download Hijackthis and my computer won't let it download. Soon after the download window dissapears as well. My internet is working fine, it's just the programs that won't seem to open up. Am i infected? If there isn't any solution should i just re-format my computer? Don't know how else to show without the log.
I was recently cleaning my hard drive when I used the standard windows disk cleanup and cleared my files in my browser. Now when I try and download something through a link, windows downloader starts and then an error message comes up saying "Documents and Settingsxx xxLocal SettingsTemporary Internet FilesContent. IE55FV3XLWE [file name] is missing. There is no such folder in my temporary internet files folder yet I can't create or create in local settings and drag and drop. I can download if I save target as but would rather repair the problem.
I made the change below however, if I click on a folder in the left hand "Folders" pane, it works as before and opens the folder and displayed in the contents in the right hand pane.
However, if I click on any folders in the right hand (files pane) a new windows explorer window opens a displays the "my documents".
The same thing happens if you click on a shortcut to a folder. Instead of the folder opening, it opens a new window and displays "my documents".
This problems started when I added a new function to the folder file folder file type properties to print out the contents of a folder by calling a batch file that piped the content to a file.
In the file association for file folders in the advanced section I now have three functions - the afore mentioned 'create file list' - explore (the default), and - find
For the folder file type I just have: - explore and - open
Any suggestions on how to put things back to the way Windows Explorer always worked before make clicking folders in the right hand pane open them up properly in the same window as per clicking them on the left hand pane?
My intellimouse works correctly for awhile then double click fails. When this occurs the mouse control panel fails to open. Shutting down and restart corrects the problem-but only for awhile and then the same thing happens over again. I reloaded software to no avail. any help?
When I go to my documents and open the folders, they always open in the list view. I would like to have them open all the time with thumbnail view.I change the view when the folders are open, but they always revert back to details when I go to them again. Can it be changed permanently?
Every time I startup windows XP my C:Program FilesCommon folder is open. It does this, regardless of who is logging on. I'm sick to death of closing the thing now. There's also a folder inside the common folder called 'Bin'. Don't know if this has anything to do with it.
I've been installing fonts onto my computer and I have probably 1600 or so in my folder now. Now whenever I try opening the folder it unexpectedly quits. I don't think it's a memory problem, cause I've got plenty of it. Also, it won't let me install any more fonts cause it keeps closing down.
I am in the process of converting my DVDs to Xvids using AutoGK. I two HDDs a 120Gb Maxtor IDE for windows and generic stuff and a 250Gb Maxtor SATA HDD on which the Xvids are stored. A couple of weeks ago I formatted the windows partition of my IDE HDD to reinstall XP.I have a few DVDs which are TV series and as such are split into folders containing season 1, 2, etc. When I try to access the folders to play (rename, delete etc) the files the window opens but none of the thumbnail previews load, then the screen freezes and I have to use task manager to exit. The strange thing is that if I load the files directly from windows media player they play fine. It seems that ever since the reinstall that windows can't handle the files and just bombs out. I have copied some of the files onto the other HDD and the same problem occurs.
I was trying to change the appearance of my icons via "Tools > Folder Options > File Types > Advanced > Change Icon". Next thing I know, every time I try to open a folder, it does a "Search" instead -- so I try to change this by adding a new "Action" (open). Now, what happens, (and which is my problem), is that a new window opens whenever I open a folder. The option for "Open each folder in the same window" is set.
