When I go to my documents and open the folders, they always open in the list view. I would like to have them open all the time with thumbnail view.I change the view when the folders are open, but they always revert back to details when I go to them again. Can it be changed permanently?

View 3 Replies View RelatedEvery time I open a window now, I get a "folder list" (explorer?) to the right and inside the window proper. I have tried clicking and un-clicking just about every option in the folders options list under "View". I eben click apply changes to all windows, I have clicked and unclicked "Remember each window's view settings".I even unclick the folders button on the tool bar of the window, and close the window, hoping the window will remember I don't want the folder list displayed, still no luck.

The first two of the 3 check boxes underneath are ticked. I have no idea what the default action was before, but I don't see anything resembling simply open a folder. Can anyone help me reset the default action or create a new one to open the folder?
Why can't I get XP to open every folder using the "Details" option? I do have it set so that it remembers (most of the time) to re-open that folder with the file view it was in when it was closed, but I want XP to open every new and old folder with the "file details" view. Seems like a simple thing, but I can't get XP to understand that's what I want.

Thankyou for the help.But still have the issue of not being able to change the "FOLDER OPTIONS"/ "VIEW"/ "HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS" selection has both "DO NOT SHOW---" and "SHOW HIDDEN-" selected. If I select either one it will stay only as long as I do not close the Folder Options box. As soon as it is closed it will again default back to both hide and show.I cannot find any threads with this issue except the mention in the one thread about "INFOSTEALER" that I used to get me this far. When i went to folder options to try and change the icon for drives it somehow reset the setting for opening drives to find. I changed it to open with windows explorer for now so that i can open things but this doesnt help as they all open in new windows. Does anyone know how to reset this action to default? Although this may not seem a big problem it is extremely annoying to have to use a US keyboard setting with a UK keyboard.My other problem is that when I try to install the Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB917283) the update process runs for a while and it eventually says that the installation has failed. All other updates are being installed successfully but this one continues to fail no matter how many times I try to install it and restart the computer etc.

And if I open My Computer, right-click on the hard disk and go to Properties, it shows ~26GB of Used Space and ~4GB of Free Space. However, I do not understand what is taking up so much space. It is a new PC with very little data.Furthermore, if I 'Select All' on the contents of C:, and right-click for the properties of all files and folders, the Size on Disk only equals 11.6 GB, which seems more reasonable. (FYI, I have already set 'show hidden files and directories' in Folder Options)

I would like Windows Explorer to open with the Explorer Bar on the left with Folder view as the default. I've tried saving the view under options but this doesn't seem to work. If I close Windows Explorer it just goes back to the default view before I made my changes. Also is there a way to have Windows Explorer default to a certain directory?
