Just got a new 'old' machine at work. XP os. Folder Options, either from Control Panel or via explore/tools, is not available. Can some overly cautious IT dude turn in off or hide it? Can I get it back? (without having admin priviliges?)

I am using windows XP for last 2-3 years.My folder option has disappeared from the menu "View" and does not show any result when I double click folder options in the control panel.I thought I have virus in my PC but i have cleaned it with the help of antivirus and your forum.

I would like to have them open all the time with thumbnail view.I change the view when the folders are open, but they always revert back to details when I go to them again. View 3 Replies View RelatedEvery time I open a window now, I get a "folder list" (explorer?) to the right and inside the window proper. I have tried clicking and un-clicking just about every option in the folders options list under "View". I eben click apply changes to all windows, I have clicked and unclicked "Remember each window's view settings".I even unclick the folders button on the tool bar of the window, and close the window, hoping the window will remember I don't want the folder list displayed, still no luck.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWindows XP service pack 2.I have a churches computer that was infected with "INFOSTEALER", "TROJAN.VB.jy" and "DOWNLOADER.CRYPTIC.f" that I volunteered to try to fix.I searched the threads and followed the instructions listed to remove them and was successful. Thankyou for the help.But still have the issue of not being able to change the "FOLDER OPTIONS"/ "VIEW"/ "HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS" selection has both "DO NOT SHOW---" and "SHOW HIDDEN-" selected. If I select either one it will stay only as long as I do not close the Folder Options box. As soon as it is closed it will again default back to both hide and show.I cannot find any threads with this issue except the mention in the one thread about "INFOSTEALER" that I used to get me this far. What did I miss?

And if I open My Computer, right-click on the hard disk and go to Properties, it shows ~26GB of Used Space and ~4GB of Free Space. However, I do not understand what is taking up so much space. It is a new PC with very little data.Furthermore, if I 'Select All' on the contents of C:, and right-click for the properties of all files and folders, the Size on Disk only equals 11.6 GB, which seems more reasonable. (FYI, I have already set 'show hidden files and directories' in Folder Options)

and the folder I was in became hidden. I cleared the box for hide folders but it is still hidden.

Now whenever I go to open a folder, it opens a new window for that folder, even though [Folder Options] is set to browse in one window. And I have tried EVERYTHING, and know the only possible solution is to set the paramaters for [File Types].

When I right click and get the Properties, and try to Customize the Menu, the options don't save, and I'm stuck with nothing. I've tried clicking on the Internet radio button for "Show on Start Menu". I click Ok, then Apply, and Finally Ok again. But when I go back to the menu, it still has nothing in the left-hand column.
The second thing I've noticed was under Folder Options -> View, I tried to check both the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" button, and also un-check "Hide extensions for Known File Types" and click on Apply, then Ok again. But still, these options don't save and are reset back to "Do not show hidden files", and "hide extensions".
i have window xp working fine but i have problem that i cant see the hiddien files that i have made that no one can have acess to them but now when i check the option that show hidden file but when i exit the folder option it remain same file remain hidden. if some one know is it virus or some other problem.

When it boots up, it goes to a black screen and has Windows XP Pro and Windows XP listed with the Win XP Pro selected and boots to it in 15 seconds or so if nothing is selected. I have read somewhere about this before and have NO clue where I read it, but does anyone know how to get rid of the option (Win XP) that really doesn't even exist on the hard drive?
