Getting No "open, Save, Cancel" Option While Playing / Stream Music Files?
Jul 19, 2005
When I attempt to play or stream music from a web site, I no longer have the options of "open, save, cancel", I only have the options of "save" or "cancel." The dialog box indicates that "m3u" or m3ulist" files are an unknown type.. This wasn't always the case, at one point things worked just fine. How do I get my computer to recognize and "open" these files without having to "save" them and play them from the saved file? Once saved, they will play in Windows Media Player.
Has anyone experienced this? I am installing the service pack 3 update for Windows XP and the install wizard is moving extremely slow. It is to the point where it is installing files and I can see that each individual file (dll's, exe's, etc.) takes about 30-90 seconds to install! It has been installing like this for many hours now - almost half a day. There is no option to cancel and roll back the installation (buttons are all grayed out), so I'm just going to patiently wait for it to end.Does anyone know why this would happen?
im fairly new to computers but seemed to be doing ok until i allowed my neice & her friend to play games on it. now i cant open some of my files as its saying 'dont know what programe created it' especially DLL files.
I have Windows XP. When I download a file (WP, pdf, etc.), and it asks me to open or save it, it will only let me save it. If I try to open it, it seems to download, but then the relevant application never opens, and I get a message that I may not have the appropriate permission. So I have to save it, then open the application myself, then open the saved file.
My husband's computer which gets scanned for viruses every day, all of sudden cannot open or save any file. The first error message states that the file is in use by another user (this is an unnetworked laptop). When we click on Notify, it says the file cannot be found or server unavailable. This happens for every Word, Excel, file that we have tried. I have tried to check for microsoft updates but even the temp directory cannot be written (says that it is read-only) to so I cannot install anything.
I have a mapped drive on the network and when I access if from the My Computer window I get the Open With window asking me what program to use. But if I right click it and choose explorer then it opens.
I have an HP a305w Pavilion. It's a refurbished system from a very reputable source and has caused me no problems over 2 years. I do have problems with the CD ROM tho. 1) When playing a music CD, the first 5-6 seconds is very static-y and muffled sounding. It doesn't matter if it's a bought CD or one I burned myself. 2) There is good 15 second delay between songs, and I can hear the CD ROM 'starting up' again. How can I fix both of these issues?
For sometime my user profile has had the problem of no windows music playing at startup and shutdown but I can live with that.However. I just tried to switch to the guest profile and received a message that it could not find a profile and to be sure I was connected to the network. I then created a new profile and got the message that "Windows canot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the default. It would appear that I have corrupt files in profile and the only apparant solution is to foremat. I say that becasue I can't find a fix anywhere.

After using my PC for a while - the screen goes off (and the light goes on orange, like on standby) any music playing stops and there is nothing to do except restart. Upon restarting, the BIOS screen is scrambled and the the XP loading screen is messed up and it just goes to a black screen.I have to turn the PC off. Upon turning the PC on again it does the same. I turn off the power supply, wait a while and power up and everything is fine again. untill it does it all over again.I started experiencing this problem on Monday and it's happened once each day. I haven't got a clue what could be causing it? The PC has an ASRock Board, 2.8Ghz AMD Athlon, 512MB RAM, GeForce5200 128MB. It runs pretty well.but now this.
my computer freezes when I play some video games and also when I play AVI files (if I play mpeg files they work just fine, no freezing at all) But the thing is when I play games or AVI files my computer will freeze randomly (5 minutes, 30 minutes, just randomly sometimes it won't freeze at all) I don't know if it's the memory or not.
actually at my work place i'm trying to download some hindi mp3 music files but somehow it not working. as I'm trying to right click on the song link and by selecting 'save target as' its openning the dailog box to save it but at this point it trying to save as HTML documents instead of mp3 format.if i try manuaaly to change file extension from html to mp3 than i can not play this file as it gives error about class-file of media player.I checked on Internet explorer tools internet option and security tab and verfied download file is enabled.
I use Windows XP SP2. Recently noticed that when I left-click on any of the icons of the Hard-disk drives and/or Devices with Removable Storage within 'My Computer', the 'Search' Option opens up by default instead of the 'Open' option, like in other folders. Likewise, when I right-click on the said icons, the 'Search' option is topmost & the 'Open' option has been relegated to second position. I would like the Search option to come first. Can't remember whether this was so from before or changed recently. I have used Norton Partition Magic 8 recently to resize my partitions.
I have one question. Is it possible to save the order of my music folders (and files!) in My Music folder. What I mean is that I'm going to transfer all of my music (55 GB) on external HDD and then back to freshly installed Windows 7. And what I would like is that my order of folder is sorted as I did it in Win XP, and NOT by alphabetical order or something else. I have really huge collection and organizing it like it is now would be a nightmare. I do not want music to be sorted like: ATB, Coldplay, Linkin Park, Trance; but in my order (like Coldplay, Linkin Park, ATB, Trance). I wonder if thumbs.db hidden file has to do something with order of the icons (I guess not ) So is it possible or not?
my computer is unable to save any files at all. It cannot save files off the internet or save any files in a Save As.. format? Ive searched the internet for the last 2 weeks looking for some infomation on the problem but i cannot find anything?
I was having this problem on my old install of XP, which desperately needed a new install. In any case, I'm now using a freshly installed version of XP, and everything has been running perfectly for about 2 weeks. Suddenly, this one problem reappears: The File Open / Save As dialog box (aka Windows Common Control / comctl32.dll) takes forever to open (20 seconds to 60 seconds). I just did a chkdsk and defrag, and that did not solve the problem. Also, there are no network drives connected which could be slowing things down. This happens in both MS programs (such as Notepad) and 3rd party programs (such as Firefox).
Since I can "eject" the cd through right-clicking on the drive in my computer, i was wondering if there is an "open" feature, since my new case has drive cover, like the example below:[img]http://images1.chiefvalue.com/productimage/11-212-031-04.jpgp/img]since i have an old DVD drive the button is place differently from the button placed on the case, so i'm thinking of alternatives ways in opening the drive or if there's an easier way to approach this.what do all the function keys mean anyway? (F1-F12)
I'm using Windows XP and i don't know what i did but when i try to open a music file (mpeg) i get a error message = This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel. Please help!!!!!!!! and also when i try to click the mail button for msn...i get a pop up that says Windows cannot open this file...what do you want to do....use the web...or choose myself.
I am a big music downloader (all paid for, thank you)! I'm 55 so I guess I forgot how to download them as individual songs and not have them arbitrarily placed in folders predetermined by Windows. I remember a musicmatch and/or real networks technician told me once how to change my settings so they are captured as individual songs. Probably a simple answer, but I don't remember it.
My OS is Windows XP and the message I get is "Windows Explorer has encountered an problem and must shut down. Sorry for the inconvienence."
This also happens when I right-click on the desktop, but after that message, I get a similar one from Dr. Postmortem Debugger (or something like that) and the computer freezes.
The settings in my folder options have been changed. If i left click any file it comes up wth access denied.. However if i right click and go to open then the file will open. The problem was caused by going Tools>folder options> file types.... file folder and folder have been changed on the advanced button..also AudioCD file has been changed.
Running Windows XP SP2 and I have just noticed in the couple days, that whenever I use an open/save as dialog box (to open/save a song in from firefox, to send a file in messenger etc), all the files are getting listed and arranged by name in reverse order (z-a).They were always getting displayed by name in the right order, which I assume is the default, until recently.Any idea on how I could get it back that way? I know it is a minor issue, but it has really decreased the speed with which I look through my system.I've tried arranging the icons by name, but it never seems to save.
I'd like to delete My Pictures and My Music folders within My Documents. Though whenever I do, the My Pictures and My Music icons on the Start Menu will not open.
It's redundancy not to my liking to have My Pictures and My Music folders within My Documents folder, and to have My Pictures and My Music icons on the Start Menu; which lead to the same folders.
Is there a way to delete My Pictures and My Music folders within My Documents folder, while still retaining their Start Menu functionality?
I have Windows Movie Maker version 5.1 and it just simply does not show any options for file type in the Save Movie Wizard settings. I do get options that affect file size/resolution but no "Other" settings. Do I have the wrong version of WMM? I'd like to save my movies as .avi files
Without going through regedit, is there a way to add a network drive or some other shortcut on the left pane of the open/save dialog box? See the red circled area in the image below. I'm using WinXP SP4 with Windowblinds installed. What about rearranging the order the icons already appear?
I try to set a default prog to open a file, so i set it in properties... but when i click ok, the setting i picked does not save! what could be causing this?
I cannot seem to find any codec other than 3vix to play these m4a files. That was fine until the demo ran out. Is there a free codec or am I forced to buy a codec (just seems principly wrong). Or maybe some kind of converter?
