On boot up I get a notice that file americ~.dat could not be found. Everything is working ok as far as I can tell but this is busting my chops and annoying the hell out of me. I have run registry cleaners thinking this is a left over from an application I uninstalled but it still shows up. An ideas on how I can track down what is looking for this file?
View 2 RepliesI downloaded some Registry cleaner program and I guess it was a crappy one because it must have deleted a whole bunch of important registry files. I had to reboot my system and got a message saying "ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupted" so in my infinite wisdom and panicked state I ran the XP recovery disks that came with my laptop (see laptop details below). But for some odd reason it just installed another version of Windows XP. Anyways after some sleuthing I used the XP disk to copy over the "ntoskrnl.exe" to my HD and all seemed okay as my original version of XP booted up okay, but then I get a blue XP screen saying "AutoChk.exe file not found- skipping AUTOCHECK" and the system restarts

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've recently uninstalled a program I had on my computer called Venturi2. It had been running in the background and didn't seem to be serving any purpose so did so. I did get the feeling it had something to do with graphics though.This was maybe 2 days ago. I tried playing a game right now (Command and Conquer) and for some reason it was lagging horribly. I've ran it fine in the past. Are these two things related? Either way is there some way to redownload the program? I've tried googling all over but the only links I find are linking to an informer.com domain, whereupon it says it doesnt have the software but to try googling it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedThis error comes up no matter how I try to boot my Computer.Disable or uninstall any anti viruse, disk defragmanation or backup utilities... Then it goes on like that, and the technical information: STOP: 0x00000024 (0x001902FE 0xF7CDE6DC 0xF7CDE3D8 0xF731BF81) It started happening after I ran the new AVG Free 8.0 virus scanner. So maybe that's the problem? So far I haven't been able to even run in safe mode to disable it.

Clicking on ok cancells the whole cut/copy operation, which can leave you wondering what has or has not been moved and requires trawling through source and target location. I have Mcafee's virus scan running all of the time and I leave on the machine always. After I reboot it may take hours for it to happen again but it always happens. With Explorer I end up hitting cancel about 10 times and it takes about 30 seconds and it asks me for a CD I don't have, I hit cancel some more, and then Explorer finally loads. With Word and Excel, I just hit cancel once, and then Word and Excel never do load.

I am trying to delete mp3 from my c drive because I have an external disk where I have my music library. I can delete them one at a time without getting the error message but not a bunch of them. Some of them I have been able to delete in a bunch.

When I do a Task Manager or Ctrl Alt Delete, the little green square is full up and this is with no programs running except Windows. I am using Finity Soft Memory Manager and this program says Free Ram 54%, Memory Load Index 44%, and CPU 100%. How do I find out what programs are running other than using Task Manager which shows no programs running?

Program still doesn't find it. Think it may be a registry problem but am hesitant to fool around with it. Anyone know how to make XP default to DX8.1? (There are other DirectX's in registry, i.e DX3, DX6 etc. Think it may be defaulting to one of these.
