AutoChk.exe File Not Found - Down Loaded Registry Cleaner Program
Sep 29, 2008
I downloaded some Registry cleaner program and I guess it was a crappy one because it must have deleted a whole bunch of important registry files. I had to reboot my system and got a message saying "ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupted" so in my infinite wisdom and panicked state I ran the XP recovery disks that came with my laptop (see laptop details below). But for some odd reason it just installed another version of Windows XP. Anyways after some sleuthing I used the XP disk to copy over the "ntoskrnl.exe" to my HD and all seemed okay as my original version of XP booted up okay, but then I get a blue XP screen saying "AutoChk.exe file not found- skipping AUTOCHECK" and the system restarts
I recently removed all of my file extensions with my Registry Cleaner, now I can't access anything except my browser and Email program.I was trying to clean stuff off of my computer I didn't need I just got a little carried away.I have a backup of the files on my Registry Cleaner but I can't access it,what can I do?Is there any other way to gain access to my Registry Cleaner where I can get to the backup? When I say I removed all of my file extensions I mean every single one.
I was attempting to install Norton System Works 2006, it failed and gave me some instructions to fix the issue which consisted of downloading 3 tools and running them to clean the failed install, and then try the install again. I tried to reboot first (I don't recall if I was instructed to or not!) and now it goes through the motions of starting up...bios screen, Norton Go Back Screen (new), XP loading screen, then I get a screen that says "autochk program not found - skipping AUTOCHECK" and it restarts
The system then starts and i can see no noticeable difference. At first i ignored it and put off looking into it. It is too late to do a system restore. I have had this issue for probably almost 6 months.
I did a search and my problem seems to be a bit different than others issues people have had with this file. When i go to the system32 folder the file is there
I tried to log on to the internet (dial-up). The dialer panel came up, I hit dial, and it closed. I tried again with the same result. I restarted hoping it woud fix it. It got the the Windows XP loading screen, then went to a light blue screen w/ dark blue bars at the top and bottom (the new bsod) and displayed two messages that said the same thing: autochk program not found - skipping AUTOCHECK After about five seconds the computer reboots and repeats the process.
After the BIOS boot and before the Windows XP load screen, there is a recovery option. I tried this and got into the Gateway System Recovery. It says "Starting Recovery..." with a progress bar and then goes to this BSOD: STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure The registry cannot load the hive (file): SystemRootSystem32ConfigSECURITY or its log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable. At this point the screen just stays there and the computer responds to nothing but the power button.
My daughter thought she try to install Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS Desktop Edition as a second OS (She received this CD in the mail) ... But after installing Ubunta she get the choices to either choice WinXP Home Edition or Ubuntu, now here is the problem. Picking WinXP Home Edition she gets the error "autochk not found - SKIPPING AUTOCHK" then a quick blue screen with a bunch of letter and numbers and then it goes back to choices of booting to WinXP Home Edition or Ununtu.
looking for a god registry cleaner, was using CCleaner but I just upgraded to the latest edition and ran into some problems and had to roll my system back to solve the problems. Found the following review of the major contenders I was thinking about the one by PC Tools seems to be the least expensive I have a coupon and it appears to be highly recommended only thing is I'm thinking about buying a new laptop 64 bit and I'm not sure if they come in different flavors doesn't make any since to purchase one for my XP machine if I can't use it on my new 17 inch laptop I plan on purchasing sometime within the next few months, Also whats the best free or shareware version out there to.
Though my computer has never been what you'd call fast, recently it seems to have slowed down a bit further. Nothing unbearable, just a few seconds of extra lag when opening a program or folder, but enough to catch my attention and prove bothersome. It also wasn't there when I built this computer about a year or so ago, so I feel it must be something I can fix.I run Spybot and Ad-aware fairly regularly, with no results, and also have McAfee to watch for viruses. At the moment I am considering trying a registry cleaner to see if it will help, though I thought it might be better to stop by here first and see if there's something else I haven't tried or thought of first.
I have just purchased Registry Mechanic, and am so far disappointed in it. I used to be somewhat technically inclined, back in the days of DOS I ran a computer lab, but I really haven't had time to keep up. Still, I know more than most people... Anyway, I bought this proggy thinking it would give me a bit more information than just going into regedit and poking around without a net. So far, it doesn't. I knew it would suggest changes that I would be able to accept/reject one at a time. But the information it gives is pretty useless for making the decision. And it is not like there is a manual explaining what all this means. Also I am skeptical since it found 106 "problems" and this computer is less than a week old. Does any kind soul care to comment on a few illustrative examples? Example 1: High Priority: Value is invalid - Set to Delete Location: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTAudioCDshellPlayWithPowerDVDcommand default = CProgram FilesCyberLinkPowerDVDPowerDVD.exe%1 OK, so this is "High Priority." Very dramatic. And the value is invalid, but the value of what? And the value is set to delete. Should I be wondering whether this value needs to be fixed rather than just deleted? I more or less understand "location"...this is where in the registry the invalid value can be found. But I don't understand "default." Is this the default setting of the invalid value? Is Reg Cleaner proposing to reset the value to the default? What if the system was intentionally configured differently from the default? Am I even asking the right questions? Example 2: High Priority: Value is invalid - Set to Delete Location: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID{CC2C83A6-9BE4-11D0-98E7-00C04FC2CAF5]InprocServer32 SystemDB = C:WINDOWSsystem32system.mdw Again, I get that it is high priority, a value is invalid and should be deleted. Again, not sure if it ought to be fixed rather than deleted. Again, understand location more or less. Not sure what "SystemDB =" is proposing to do. Really not sure what to make of this. Example 3: High Priority: Value is invalid - Set to Delete Location: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareCyberLinkPowerDVD SrcDir = C:FalconDriversDVDPowerDVD 4.0 - Sony Bundle In looking for examples I've just realized that the soultion in every case is "set to delete." What is SrcDir? What is this telling me?
Regards to all, this is my first posting and I believe that you will be gentle to me. I am looking for a tool/software that can manage my system registry files. I know that I can get them online but I need to try them before I actually use them so that I can be sure of the results. I have read lot's of reviews and found out that currently, the best registry cleaner on the market is Digeus Registry Cleaner.
Mornin' I am really having a time with the snail pace of my computer...I have broadband and My download is not too bad...but my upload....especially when wanting to send pictures (without resizing them to a smaller size...it takes so long to send that the computer/or whatever "times out"I sent pics before without resizing them, and everything went fine...Photography class teacher prefers photos we send to be in their original size....I ran a speed test this morning
On boot up I get a notice that file americ~.dat could not be found. Everything is working ok as far as I can tell but this is busting my chops and annoying the hell out of me. I have run registry cleaners thinking this is a left over from an application I uninstalled but it still shows up. An ideas on how I can track down what is looking for this file?
I've been looking for a good registry cleaner. But before I buy one, can anyone recommend any good ones for me? The price really isn't an issue. Does anyone have any first hand experience with any registry cleaner they have used before?
Using internet and 1st time I've received the following pop up - "Registry Cleaner Recommended" with an exclamation mark in side a yellow triangle. It says:"Errors in your Windows registry database, if present, could cause erratic operation and other computer problems, including: Slow system performance, slow start up, freezes/system crashes.Details: to ensure system is operatingly correctly, strongly recommend you scan and clean your Windows registry database by running Registry Cleaner now"May sound silly but this is ad-ware right? Shouldn't Ad-Aware and Avast prevent pop ups like these? Or is there a program that i should download to prevent these?
After running a registry cleaner service. I have been unable to print. I get need to add printer. When I try to reinstall printer. I get print spooler service is not running. I first tried restarting printer spooler and I get error 1068 the dependency service or group failed to start. I tried the following that was suggested by a friend.
I use different kinds of software's in my computer and test them.So i am thinking that there is a lot of orphaned entries in my registry due to un-installation of many programs, deleting those which may improve computer performance. So i was thinking to use Wise registry cleaner which is praised for its excellent work and Gizmo freeware reviews rated it best free registry cleaner. What do u have to suggest? Is it good and safe to use Wise Registry Cleaner?
My computer has always worked fine until last night i decided to download a registry cleaner and ran it. I also defragged the drive and when i restarted it just kept rebooting. I have now already tried the following:
-memory swaps
-hardware removal
-repairing windows
-reloading windows
the problem remains the same i get as far as first screen alerting me that i can push del to enter setup or bios etc. Then the system reboots and starts all over again.
I recently tried to reinstall my operating system (Xp Home) on my Dell Latitude CPt I am able to boot from CD and it initializes the installer but when the Kernal Debugger starts i get an error messages that says "The File Setupdd.sys could not be loaded The error is 4 press any key to exit" is there a way to wipe the Hard Drive and start new and if so how could i do so.
Registry Mechanic just found 800 bad stuff on my pc. It cant delete them all because it needs to be registered and I dont know what to do about the stuff it can delete
I get the following message windows on bootup that the following can't be found and they have to be removed or added to the registry: C:Windows..Program~1Common~1Micros~1MSINFOinfo32.exe and C:Windows..Program~1Common~1Micros~1MSINFOmsinfo32.exe I also can't open Word 2000 because of a Runtime problem error message. All errors occurred at the same time. Running Win XP SP1.
I read the advice to start in safe mode to delete files that gave the errror message cannot delet file - source file not found. They wouldn't delete in Safe Mode either. I am trying to delete mp3 from my c drive because I have an external disk where I have my music library. I can delete them one at a time without getting the error message but not a bunch of them. Some of them I have been able to delete in a bunch.
Symantec's site says it's a backdoor trojan, but my virus program doesn't detect it. In the services configuration it's named iprip, no description & start up is auto.Under properties-general-path to executable C:WINDOWSSystem32svchost.exe -k netsvcs.dependencies-none.I searched my files & found file NETIPRIP .INX-Route Listening Service.
Tried installing a program but it needed DirectX8.1.. Went to MS site and found that DX8.1 is already installed in XP. DOwnloaded and reinstalled anyway. Program still doesn't find it. Think it may be a registry problem but am hesitant to fool around with it. Anyone know how to make XP default to DX8.1? (There are other DirectX's in registry, i.e DX3, DX6 etc. Think it may be defaulting to one of these.
I'm in the process of repair/recovery of my machine (Dell Inspiron 8500 with Windows XP Home, Service Pack 2). I'm following exactly the instructions in:
http://attachments.techguy.org/attac...chmentid=62075, but a problem has developed. The "software" file (which is the file that the original blue screen error message says is "corrupt, absent or not writable") will not copy to the new tmp directory to create the backup. My understanding from the article is that this backup file (software.bak) will later be used to restore correct settings for various software applications. Since I can't copy it, it appears that I am screwed,
I just noticed this yesterday on my laptop. When I boot up the computer I get a screen that says "Autochk not found -Skipping autochk.exe" then goes to my login screen and I am able to login with no visible problem. Now I cannot use the restore function, it tells me unable to restore. I also cannot defrag the drive. The computer is a Toshiba laptop 2.0 Pentium m 1g mem, 80g hard drive
I tried with Partition Magic 8.0. It rebooted, and when the script would usually kick in, an error was displayed instead: xmnt2002 program not found - skipping AUTOCHECK and then it would boot. That frustrated me. I tried again, this time unhiding the partitions using grub before booting. Still, same error. So, partition magic was not going to work. Next I decided to try to go to the Linux installation directly, and use the YaST utility to resize my windows partition. I tried, but that failed as well. YaST gave me the "Failed to resize partition. The Installer will now exit" error each time I tried that. So, the Linux-rout failed as well.
By now I was quite frustrated. I decided to re-install Windows from the disks I had been provided, deleting the windows partition using the installation menu and re-installing it on a smaller portion of the unallocated space. Windows was installed using the same amount of space as the first installation -- It did not allow me to resize it's disk usage like I had planned. So, I lost all the software, but no matter, I reinstalled it all in a few hours, then attempted to resize my partition again...............
