Unable To Load OS With Error Saying Autochk Not Found

My daughter thought she try to install Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS Desktop Edition as a second OS (She received this CD in the mail) ... But after installing Ubunta she get the choices to either choice WinXP Home Edition or Ubuntu, now here is the problem. Picking WinXP Home Edition she gets the error "autochk not found - SKIPPING AUTOCHK" then a quick blue screen with a bunch of letter and numbers and then it goes back to choices of booting to WinXP Home Edition or Ununtu.

When i start my system i get a blue screen which says "AutoChk.exe program not found- skipping AUTOCHECK"

The system then starts and i can see no noticeable difference. At first i ignored it and put off looking into it. It is too late to do a system restore. I have had this issue for probably almost 6 months.
I did a search and my problem seems to be a bit different than others issues people have had with this file. When i go to the system32 folder the file is there

I was attempting to install Norton System Works 2006, it failed and gave me some instructions to fix the issue which consisted of downloading 3 tools and running them to clean the failed install, and then try the install again. I tried to reboot first (I don't recall if I was instructed to or not!) and now it goes through the motions of starting up...bios screen, Norton Go Back Screen (new), XP loading screen, then I get a screen that says "autochk program not found - skipping AUTOCHECK" and it restarts

I downloaded some Registry cleaner program and I guess it was a crappy one because it must have deleted a whole bunch of important registry files. I had to reboot my system and got a message saying "ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupted" so in my infinite wisdom and panicked state I ran the XP recovery disks that came with my laptop (see laptop details below). But for some odd reason it just installed another version of Windows XP. Anyways after some sleuthing I used the XP disk to copy over the "ntoskrnl.exe" to my HD and all seemed okay as my original version of XP booted up okay, but then I get a blue XP screen saying "AutoChk.exe file not found- skipping AUTOCHECK" and the system restarts

I tried to log on to the internet (dial-up). The dialer panel came up, I hit dial, and it closed. I tried again with the same result. I restarted hoping it woud fix it. It got the the Windows XP loading screen, then went to a light blue screen w/ dark blue bars at the top and bottom (the new bsod) and displayed two messages that said the same thing: autochk program not found - skipping AUTOCHECK After about five seconds the computer reboots and repeats the process.
After the BIOS boot and before the Windows XP load screen, there is a recovery option. I tried this and got into the Gateway System Recovery. It says "Starting Recovery..." with a progress bar and then goes to this BSOD: STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure The registry cannot load the hive (file): SystemRootSystem32ConfigSECURITY or its log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable. At this point the screen just stays there and the computer responds to nothing but the power button.

ok everytime i load my comp i hav the same error message 'RUN.DLL ERROR etwain.dll could not be found' very strange! could it be linked to a game i have 'Wolfenstein enemy territory' iv had this game for years but never had ne problems with it! i just cant seem to find wot this DLL file is!

windows loads and everything but when its done the only thing i get is the wallpaper, no START button no programs, seconds later i get a message that says explorer.exe couldnt start iertutil.dll was not found ,, is there anyway i can fix this i dont have the manufacturers cd windows came pre-installed on my laptop.

My computer randomly started displaying this error upon start up a week ago and I have no clue what is causing it. I googled it and seen that it could be caused by a linksys wireless router, one was installed on the system before, but has been uninstalled for quite some time now. Can anyone help me correct this or at least help me figure out what is causing it?

I just noticed this yesterday on my laptop. When I boot up the computer I get a screen that says "Autochk not found -Skipping autochk.exe" then goes to my login screen and I am able to login with no visible problem. Now I cannot use the restore function, it tells me unable to restore. I also cannot defrag the drive. The computer is a Toshiba laptop 2.0 Pentium m 1g mem, 80g hard drive

my son started his XP home edition system 2nite but other than his wallpaper nothing else appeared except the error message "explorer.exe.....unable to locate component....this application has failed to start because browseui.dll was not found" or words to that effect. As the task bar is missing and no icons it appears he has no access to run anything....hence why he has asked me to log onto web and contact yourselves

I recently bought and installed a new ECS 6100PM-M2 motherboard with 2 x 1Gb DDR2 667 RAM and AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ CPU bundle.I have been trying to install Windows XP home edition to my computer and it will not install. When I turn the pc on I am confronted with a black screen that has a flashing cursor in the top left corner.To get the machine to do anything else I have to restart the computer and enter the BBS Setup by pressing F11 and selecting the optical drive that contains the XP disc.A message appears telling me that Setup is inspecting my hardware configuration.Next, a blue screen appears with 'Windows Setup' in the top left hand corner.

Long story short, it's been a week since i've seen my desktop. No taskbar, no start menu, just my wallpaper. I have been able to use my computer through the Task Manager but that's about it. In searching for answers through the past week, it has been brought to my attention that the most likeliest of problems pertaining to this would be that my Explorer.exe is not active when I restart my computer. I have ran numerous Malware programs and have removed quite alot, but this problem still persists. I have searched through this forum and have seen one case to where this particular problem was solved but it needs special attention.

I do not use a firewall, windows firewall is currently disabled.I found some recommendations about registering .dll files. I have tried that. I have one HP Presario C700 with Windows Vista. All my family know on XP. When i try to install windows xp , i have one problem :no HDD found. The error is : Setup did not find any HDD installed in your computer. Make sure any HDD are powered on and properly connected to your computer and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program. Setup can not continue. To quit setup press F3.” Dont have floopy disk, with pressing F6 not happens nothing. The version of Windows is SP2. When i enter in BIOS, i dont see my HDD disk.

someone sent me a wordpad doc and when i tried to open it this is what it said, unable to load graphics conversion filter do you want to continue anyway, so i clicked yes. and only the text appeared in the doc. now i'm guessing the doc contains graphics of some sort but i am unable to load them. is there a way i can load these graphics? do i need the conversion filter? if so were do i get this from.

I am constantly connected to the internet via the university's network, run AVG 7.1 free, spybot s&d and its tea timer, and ad-aware se personal, all with updated definitions. I run an ewido online scan once a week, but don't keep it installed since it causes my computer to boot much more slowly. I also have the most current windows updates, except WMPlayer 10, and .Net 2.0 because it seems unnecessary. Well, back to the problem. I was talking to my friend on AIM, when I got the message "The connection to the service was lost" and had options to try and reconnect, etc. I tried to load IE, but it gave me some error along the lines on "Unable to load (initialize?) IE due to insufficient resources." I have a gig of ram, 3.0 GHZ P4, 120 Gig of hdd space, about 80 gig free, and run CCleaner about twice a week.
Anyway, I've been clean according to those 3 programs I use frequently, but after I got kicked off AIM and IE wouldnt load, my favorites were empty, programs wouldnt load, i couldnt shut down, etc. So I hit the reset button. When rebooted, the BIOS screen showed, and stayed for along time which it never does. Then, it kind of froze. As illogical as this seems, I just hit the switch on the back of the powersupply and waited about 2 minutes. All of my fans are clear of dust and in working operation (GPU, CPU, and PSU). I havent installed or removed any hardware / software recently, etc. So when I restarted, I rebooted into "safe mode with network support" and ran Spybot, Adaware, AVG7.1 and Ewido online scan. None reported anything outstanding, but AVG notes that read errors occured for the MBR and boot sector. Ewido found "spyware.chitika" which it removed. I rebooted and am currently in "safe mode with networking" just to be safe, but my question is: what could have caused this? and how can I fix my MBR? Thanks for any suggestions. I have a final paper that I need to finish before friday!

The other day my PC started shutting down and restarting for no apparent reason. I have added no new programs or hardware. Then a couple of hours later it started behaving normally even though I did nothing.Now each time I turn it on, it starts normally except that I get the following message: "CC App.exe -- Unable to locate component This application has failed to start because MAPI32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." What or where is this component and how do I re-install it?

After having the comp for a week or so (got it from a friend for cheap, in perfect condition) any time i try opening a program such as Word, the Open With screens pops up, and i have to find the program manually and open it. when try to open anything in the control panal, such as add/remove programs, an error pops up that reads:

After installing a couple of programs I was receiving this "Application has generated an exception that could not be handled" it asks to press ok to terminate and cancel to debug. Once I press cancel to debug it comes up with "No debugger found. Registed JIT debugger is not available. An attempt to launch a JIT debugger with the following command resulted in an error code of 0x2(2). Please check computer settings." How do I fix this problem? The hard drive was replaced with a 20 gb and now when I try to load the factory recover program it keeps coming back with an error message- failed to find attribs.dat in any list file on cd1, proceed anyway? only when you do proceed , it does not work. This harddrive had been used with xp previously.
