Jan 2, 2009My Dell XPS Gen 3 from 2004 underwent a serious issue when I installed Kaspersky Internet Security resulting in BSoD when I booted computer. Long story short, I had to buy a replacement HDD as the original drive fell and now only plays music (Took it out to extract important files, all save, but when troubleshooting it back on PC with the recovery console it fell).
On my PC I had two extra HDDs, one at 170gigs for music/pics and some apps and a 500 gig for media and some apps. I unattached both those HDDs when I did a fresh install of XP Home Edition on my Dell XPS. After that install seeing everything loads and works as expected I powered down PC and attached my other two drives to get an Error Loading OS.

Oct 19, 2008I've been having a problem with my laptop XP install for a while. I've lost the easy XP login screen at startup and now only have what I assume is the NT looking login dialogue box at startup.
When I go to User Accounts in the Control Panels I get the first "Specified module could not be found" and try to re-enable the "Use the Welcome Screen" login and save it seems to go okay, but when I try to reopen the "Change the way users login or logoff" I get the "Specified module could not be found" error again. The option to use the welcome screen never saves when I hit Apply Changes

May 23, 2005My computer tries to boot, it takes a while to detect anything from the CD-ROM (my first boot priority), and then when it detects the IDE, it says "error loading operating system" and after that I can't do anything but restart or shut down. I am running Windows XP Professional and it will load with a boot disk, but if I take out the boot disk it won't load.

Stuck At Loading Personal Settings - Cd Boot HD Not Found
Feb 13, 2008I am having a major problem logging into windows. When I get to the log on screen, and click my user name (the only one available) it gets stuck on "loading personal settings".My first reaction was to boot from CD, at which point I could not get my USB keyboard to work during the boot which made it impossible to "hit any key to boot from CD", so I fixed that by plugging the keyboard into the default keyboard port with an adaptor.
When I managed to boot from CD, I tried to do a repair install and got the message "Setup cannot find Hard disks bla bla cannot continue, windows will restart".

This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed. My computer is a compaq presario. I have windows xp service pack one I use a cable connection. I have a friend that has the same cable connection and is in the same online class and she has never had this happen to her. I was wondering if anyone knows why I keep getting this message and if there is a way to keep it from doing this. It just started doing this about a month ago.
Account Is Gone - Loading Your Settings Message
Dec 15, 2005I've got a problem with my xp... when i started it up earlier, i entered my password clicked enter and it displayed the 'loading your settings' message. It was stuck on this screen for a while so i pressed Ctrl+alt+del and it loaded in.. Only problem was it loaded, but not into my account. It was like my pc was when i first got it, default settings, none of my files ect.. (however it did have a few of the games i had on my pc before), I re booted my pc and again i entered the password, again it didn't load so i hit ctrl+alt+del and it loaded . However this time a message appeared saying something about my account and it had 'created a tempory one'..?
