Sometimes when I cut/copy folders from one location to another the process will stop and give an error message cannot move file with a red x. Clicking on ok cancells the whole cut/copy operation, which can leave you wondering what has or has not been moved and requires trawling through source and target location. Gets a bit annoying when it happens fairly often.

I have another primary computer, so it doesn't hurt me to lose all the files etc. I'd rather start with a clean slate. Anyway, the XP install from the disc with SP1 went fine. Then I installed SP2 per the request of the windows update monitor. And there are errors in movies that I have ripped (because I either forget to put them back in the case or they get lost) some movies and whenever I try to move the video file (ripped int a AUDI0_TS file and a VIDEO_TS file) I have an error box where the title of the window in the blue bar says "Error Copying File or Folder" and in the window (the gray part) it says "Cannot copy VTS_01_2" Data error (cyclic redundancy check).". And then I click the "OK" button and it stops the transfer. The VTS_01_2 is sometimes replaced with whatever file that cannot be transferred or that is causing the problem. I used DVDShrink and DVD43 to back them up. I am running Windows XP sp3 and transferring them onto a 300 GB hard drive.

The number of different bytes is proportional to the lenght of the original. The size of the copy is correct. Position and value of the different bytes vary between each copy.

When I send an email the message is sent with an undisplayed warning and the message remains in the Outbox after it has been sent resulting in it being continually resent until I manually delete it from the Outbox. A copy of the message is not saved to the Sent Folder even though the option is checked.I have run Nortons Utilities - and other utilities - and cleaned up Windows Registry and other Windows Errors - to fix my problem (without success). Is my Outbox damaged? Do I have to restore Outlook Express?

Then it goes on like that, and the technical information: STOP: 0x00000024 (0x001902FE 0xF7CDE6DC 0xF7CDE3D8 0xF731BF81) It started happening after I ran the new AVG Free 8.0 virus scanner. So maybe that's the problem? So far I haven't been able to even run in safe mode to disable it.

I have Mcafee's virus scan running all of the time and I leave on the machine always. After I reboot it may take hours for it to happen again but it always happens. I saw something similar on another thread about removing programs from the startup file, but I was unable to find the msconfig file.

With Explorer I end up hitting cancel about 10 times and it takes about 30 seconds and it asks me for a CD I don't have, I hit cancel some more, and then Explorer finally loads. With Word and Excel, I just hit cancel once, and then Word and Excel never do load.

I have put a disk in the drive, highlighted the file, clicked on "send to", and I get the message: "Please insert a disk into Drive E (or F, whichever I happen to try it with)".The drives won't recognize that there is a blank CD. If I put in an audio CD or a DVD, it recognizes it, and plays it fine. It's just the blank ones that are giving me a problem. I have tried several different brands of CD . . . same result . . . I take the disc out( brand new disc), put it back in...same message. I have even tried dvd drive. Nothing. Any suggestions? Want to back things up but don't seem to be able. I read on microsoft.com there is a Backup with Win XP--my understanding it's on the win xp cd...and you have to install it...could've misunderstood...because I tried that and come up with nothing. View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to speed things up for my brother who has dialup Internet. He's rebuilding his PC with his XP CD which is SP1. I have a copy of SP2 in a folder on my PC so I figured I'd just burn it to CD for him. The problem is, my Cd burner reports an error when it tries to burn this. It burns other folders just fine, but reports an error (media error-but on several different disks from the same package that works fine burning other folders) when trying to burn the SP2 folder. (I can copy the folder to a different location & the same problem occurs when burning from the different location-so I don't think it's a corrupted file/folder although I wouldn't want to be too dogmatic on that. It could be a type of corruption that Explorer handles OK but the CD burner (Sonic/Roxio CD Creator, version 10 IIRC) doesn't.) My PC is 2.8GHz P4, 512MB RAM, 80GB HD with plenty of free space. WinXP, SP2 running AVG Internet Security. Hmmm-haven't tried it with AV turned off, think that might make a difference?

In the attached screen shots, you will see I have no folder trees in any of the pop up Add, Move, or Copy pop ups in Explorer and Windows Media Player. I have no clue if this can be restored to show again. This has happened before I upgraded Media Player so it shouldnt be that. I'm thinking Windows Corruption somewhere.

View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I copied a large folder containing multiple Access databases, Excel workbooks, Word docs, etc. to a totally blank jump drive like I have done 100s of times before. But for the first time in my 'computer life', which started in 1980(!), a file appeared on it with the name EA DATA.SF. Googling the file told me that it was a system file and had something to do with Extended Attributes (whatever that is). But the file is protected; attempts to delete it, even using the command prompt and first removing all attributes (attrib -h -s -r ea*.sf) does not allow it to be deleted.
The Google search showed many cases like this, but none where there was a clear, easy way to delete the file. My questions are:What is this file for/what does it do? Why am I seeing it for the first time in 30 years? How can I delete it. or SHOULD I delete it?
