View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently brought an old laptop from work to my home to use as a kitchen computer. I already have an existing workgroup and wanted to change the computer from my office domain to my home workgroup. I went into control panel and took it off the domain and put it on my workgroup. I went to start it this morning and I am unable to log in. XP asks me for a password and I try to enter my old office password and it doesn't log in. I tried logging in as Administrator w/ no password, as "kitchen" with no password, and without any username or password at all and none of them let me log in. How do I get back into my computer?!?!?!?
View 10 Replies View RelatedWhen you use any Windows plaform (XP, 2000, NT4, 98...) to logon to domain, the logon dialog box always shows the username and domain (last successfulattempt).
Is it possible to clear the username (so username and password field are empty when next logon)?
It is because we have some computers that shared by many different users. I don't want to let them know who was the last successful logon
I need to reformat the entire computer. It's an old laptop that was used for business and therefore has all of these programs on it that I do not want anymore. Things like asking for a username and password at startup. I know you guys may say "boot from the XP CD" but will this erase EVERYTHING? By the way, I do want to erase everything.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have never had a password set up on my computer (XP home edition) and one day the computer requested a username and password at logon (never had a logon screen pop up). I was in the middle of loading mcafee, which seemed to be the beginning of the problem. I do not know how to get around this. I have tried safemode, but the computer still asks for a username and password for safe mode.

Click on OK to terminate the application. When I click OK the desktop will not come up and the server is useless. I have seen some other information about this error, but most of them assume that the computer is accessible. I have not been able to get to a desktop normally or through any safe mode options.

The fingerprinter work - except that it seems that it scans my finger as soon as I put it on the pad (I hear the sound confirmation beep) - but then it takes like 7 - 15 seconds beofre it actuallly populates the web username and password, and then submit button. I can type in the username and password faster than using the fingerprint reader?

During that time I can start Task Manager, but there is nothing obvious in there. Heartbeat is still going and processors are very low usage. In the system tray, it looks like my webcam has started, but Kaspersky AV does not start until it un-freezes. I can't start anything as the pointer remains an hourglass.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've reinstalled my computer with Windows XP SP2 instead of Windows 2000.I used to have a "remember username and password" in Windows 2000 that I no longer see.For example, when I now log in into MS Messenger, I need to reenter username and password with each login, and the check box that I used to have in W2K is gone.Another example, is web sites. I have username and password for certain web sites. Now that the check box is gone,I need to reenter the credentiald with each log in.In the new login windows, there is only a drop down list with a user icon next to the username field. But this drop down list is empty.
View 14 Replies View RelatedAfter reading Joseph Doyle's submission regarding this I would like to point out that you can set a Guest account password by simply doing this. This method is somewhat simpler in that you do not have to mess around with CMD.exe.1. Make sure you are logged on as an Administrator.2. Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.3. Select the "Users" folder under "Local Users and Groups".4. Right click on the "Guest" account and click "Set Password". When a dialog comes up warning you of the possible consequences click "Proceed". You will then be given a dialog that lets you set a new password.I have always considered security a top priority and considering the ease of doing this I would highly recommend that everyone sets a Guest account password. Even though the Guest account is disabled by default, why not do this just for the extra bit of security? Local Users and Groups is not available in XP Home. A way to set a password for the guest account in Home and Pro: click start - run - type: cmd - in the command window type: net user guest * - hit Enter - you will be prompted for the password to use.
View 9 Replies View RelatedHave an XP box with a shared printer on it. Have setup to allow, network, everyone, anonymous, guest, etc. Anything to let the people print to it without a password. However to do so, all need to connect to the \ipshare first, enter id and password (and admin acct o n the XP box). Then it prints, until they log off then it repeats. I do not want any prompt for a password. With the old NT 4 system there it worked fine. No password. New system and new printer was put in place. Permissions seem right and like I said I tried adding everything to have ti connect without a password. And the last thing I wan tto do is add every single user to that box as an account.

Spybot Search and Destroy flashed up and I clicked to allow, or not allow as the case may be, to do something to, from what I can remember, 'WLON' or something similarly named. In any case, what happens now is that I fire up the computer, enter my password, the desktop briefly flashes up for a split second(no icons) and then it immediately logs off and goes to password entry again.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy account on my computer (Win XP Pro SP2) is an Administrator account. Over a year ago, I got tired of entering my password because I an the only person that uses this computer. I did something so it would boot without the password screen appearing ( I don't remember what, but I think I left the password line blank).
Since the computer boots directly to my account, I am never prompted to enter a password; but if I use Power Options (and the computer sleeps), it wakes to the login screen and I cannot reenter my account. I have to reboot. On the login screen, I have tried leaving the password blank and entering every password I use, but I get an Invalid Password response.
I'm having a problem with Windows Explorer.Every time I connect a removable drive, the Folders panel displays a duplicate set of "Shared Documents username's Documents, and 2 other entries." It even happens when I plug in my phone to charge through the USB port. Basically, it happens when something is connected in the USB port, card reader, removable drive, ect. Please look at my screen shot and you will understand.I think it has something to do with a Motorola driver I recently uninstalled, but I don't remember which one.
