View 14 Replies View RelatedI have really screwed up my computer --dell dimension 2400 ? talk about a mess. I wanted to clean off the hard drive, so I tried to reinstall xp using a friend?s cd because the only xp cd I could find was an upgrade (from win98).I don?t know what I did wrong (or if the problem was with the cd), but setup got into a loop we could not get out of.Since I had my xp cd to upgrade from 98, we tried to install win98. It did clean off the hard drive, but it failed to install completely and now the cd drive will not work. And when I click on IE, an error message ?Msoobe? comes up and says it has perfomed an illegal operation and shuts down.My brother also has a dell dimension 2400, and he thought there was a way to reset the computer to its original configuation. I tried the Control+F11 that he suggested, but the screen says it needs a device file to run that it cannot find. There is a line that reads
Vnetbios.
I have a dell 2400,2.2 gig cpu, 512 ram, that I just put a new hard drive(40 gig) in,I installed winxp pro ,but the computer will not boot from hard drive,I went to repair console on the win xp cd,and typed fixmbr, then when it said it had done that I again typed fixboot, but it still will not boot,

So I tryed to use Killdisk to clean up and start new to reinstall Win Xp, but I got following resxponse:"Error loading Free Dos Kernell"

I didnt not have a problem with this computer until the large battery went out on my surge protector and when I moved it to my husbands music room (because his computer got a virus) Upon start up it gives the the options to start up normal, safe mode ect. Well I dont know what to do...I believe the f drive is my 3.5 disc drive it is dusty inside there and blew some out, that did not help and then I unplugged it, no help with that either. Any suggestions will help as I am unable to figure out what to do.
View 7 Replies View RelatedA friend of mined needed a clean install for his Dell Dimension 2400. The restore
disc is very different as it wants to know what partition you want to put it on. There was no other choices. So I believe that we destroyed the restore partition without knowing it had one.If I buy a Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition OEM Version will it work to solve this problem? TigerDirect sells a copy. I need the full disc and not an upgrade. But will we have drivers problems. He does have other disc with his Dell which one says its for drivers but in reality its just disc of Docs. And one that does actually install the modem as he's still on dialup. Can I wipe his hard-drive clean and install an OEM version of Home Edition and will things work?A little out of pocket money is easier then suffering

Hello folks, I am running XP Home on a Dell 2400 & want to have the
Task Manager automatically load so it will be showing in the Task Tray at
startup w/out having to bring it up myself. Is this possible?
I am trying to install new graphics card(Radeon 9250). I had my onboard graphics disabled but windows reinstalls it.I insterted the ATI disc, and I recieved the message,"try to set up with display adapter with standard VGA driver before running set up". Got me. I have a Dell Dimension 2400, 768MB RAM,and I am so unsure of anything else.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working on a PC for a friend and after installing Adaware,Spybot S&D, Spywareblaster and Avast I found too many things wrong with the PC and was trying to just reinstall Windows instead. I followed Dells instructions to Hold down Control and then hit F11 and then release both at the same time to get to the restore screen. Well it never came up and I got to the Safe Mode Last Known Good Configuration screen instead. I kept trying and nothing would change, so I picked Safe Mode. Now all I get is the BSOD that states Unmountable boot volume. Stop Error 0x000000ed (0x83376900,0xc0000006,0x0000000,0x0000000)
View 12 Replies View RelatedWe have a Dell Dimension 2400 with Windows XP installed. We also have Norton Internet Security 2007, Windows Defender, and do not seem to have any viruses or spyware. Out hard drive is just under half full (17.5 GB of 37.2 GB).takes 5 or 6 minutes from the time we turn on the computer until we can actually do something with it (connect to the internet with IE or check email with Outlook 2003). I uninstalled Google Desktop and turned off Windows Messenger (from the start menu), both of which helped some (used to be even slower). I have tried to uninstall Dell Alert (which starts every time) but am unable to with Uninstall Programs and cannot find DAMon.exe to just delete that. Once it is up and running, the PC is reasonably fast (the problem is just at the startup and first 5 to 10 minutes). I have a newer laptop I use on our wireless network and it connects very quickly to the internet so that is not the problem (as far as I can tell). We did recently switch from a cable modem to slightly slower DSL.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI managed to completely mess myself up with one mouse click. D'oh. Essentially, some joker put a theme which set EVERYTHING to black windows, text fields, text, background, everything in my theme file and I accidentally hamfistedly clicked it. This means I can't see a danged thing. I can't see the window if I right click, I can't see what I'm doing to change the theme back to something viewable. So essentially my question is this. is there a way to *force* the theme/colour of your desktop and windows to revert to Windows default BEFORE you finish the boot process i.e. bios, etc. or from the cmd line alone? (No regedit - I can type in command line but not in regedit.)I'd rather not have to do a system restore, I'd lose a bunch of stuff I really don't want to lose!
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new Dell Inspiron 530 with WinXP Home. Everything is working fine ACCEPT, every time I do a cold restart of my computer the Display setting return to 'Windows XP Style'. I keep setting it to 'Windows Classic Style' with a green background and green title bar is individual windows. In addition, I have the sound set to 'No Sound' so all the beep and bells are shut off, that also reset itself to the default of endless annoying beep and whistles. I tried creating my own display Theme called 'Green-1'. When the computer does a power-up Start, the Themes display still says 'Green-1' but the display has been reset to 'Win XP Style'. However, the Start Menu and the background color remain as I set them (classic and green respectively).A warm power-on Restart some will maintain the setting and sometimes will not.
View 9 Replies View RelatedFirst things first: WinXP Pro, SP2 fully up to date but system restore is turned off.Trying to get Windows Explorer to export a directory tree to a text file the other day instead of doing it via command line, I messed something up and can't get it back. In Explorer, this is where I was: Tools >> Folder Options >> File Types >> File Folder >>I managed to insert the script that I wanted, but somewhere along the way I made a mistake and set it to Default. Now, whenever I click on an folder in Explorer it runs whatever is set as default. I can "Default" a lot of things (enqueue in Winamp, play in VLC Media Player, Find, etc) but none of them is the simple "Open" command. I looked around at a couple other things (namely "Folder" and Firefox) in the File Types box, and while they both have Open commands included, I can't "Edit" them to see what kind of command they are running.

I have a pavilion dv9000 notebook running XP and every time I change the pointer speed for the touchpad to its fastest setting it will reset itself to the default setting after I shutdown and reboot. I need the touchpad on its fastest setting because of the wide screen and the fact that I don't always have my wireless mouse w/ me. is having a Logitech wireless mouse installed. The setpoint.exe program for the wireless mouse runs in the background whether or not the mouse is connected.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy computer showed it had a virus and I hit F-11 at startup to put the computer into Safe Mode, but during the process I ended up resetting my computer to the factory settings. The reset said that it would save all my current files into My Backup but I can not find them. I need to reverse the reset and bring my computer hard drive back to the current settings. How can I do this? I heard that the information is still on the hard drive, but I don't know how to retrieve it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Dimension 2400 1.6ghz 1gb RAM with XP Pro on it for several years now. It has many programs installed on it. I purchased a faster used Dell Dimension 8400 3.6ghz hyperthreading 3gb RAM with XP Pro on it.My question is simple. My Dimension 2400 has an IDE hard drive and the 8400 has SATA. Rather than spend days re-installing and tweaking all of the programs on the 8400 I tried the following. I used Acronis Easy Migrate 7 to Image the IDE hard drive to the SATA hard drive and installed it into the 8400. It would not boot, I tried a repair install, then while booting I get a blue screen stop Error 0x0000007B. What do I have to do to fix this so it will boot?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have an old Dell laptop that I have from my previous job. Although the screen is partly broken, I would still like to use it as a media PC near my TV. The problem is is that it is part of a corporate network so my login credentials are needed. I can login, but when I try to install updates from Windows Updates, it asks for an Administrator's password, something I don't have. Is there any way to remove the corporate log in screen and gain Administrator rights? I have heard of the Dell System Restore that resets the computer to original factory settings. Will I be able to configure the machine as a home computer (without the Control-Alt-Delete login)? I do not mind deleting all of the computer's files (I have them backed up). I have already tried Ophcrack, but it failed to find passwords because of the corporate login.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Call of Duty on my PC, and just a wee while ago noticed something very weird. I ran my desktop cleanup wizard for the first time in months, and noticed afterwards when I went to play Call of Duty all my graphics and sound settings had been reset to the lowest levels of quality, and some mouse settings had also been altered. I can change these back to my preferences while in the game, but if I quit and then load the game again all the settings have reset back to the lowest settings again. If I do a system restore to the point before I did the desktop cleanup then everything is fine, but every time I redo the desktop cleanup the problem reoccurs.

View 3 Replies View RelatedA BIG MISTAKE I found out later. Dell has a "PC Restore for Window XP" that I found out later.
Here's the link:http://support.dell.com/support/topi...docid=181316#1
Basically, "When the Dell splash screen appears during the computer startup process, press and hold <Ctrl> and then press <F11>. Then, release both keys at the same time.
NOTE: Some systems like Inspiron Mini 9 (910) do not support System Restore as they do not have <F11> nor any substitute."
In the Dell PC Restore by Symantec window, click Restore. Alternatively, press <Tab> to highlight Restore, and then press <Enter>.
I right clicked on "My Computer" icon to the "Microsoft's Management Console" window and I have 3 portion's.
The first one is a "Healthy EISA Configuration" that is FAT 31MBs., the 2nd one is "healthy Unknown Partition" that is a FAT32 3.49 GB's. And the 3rd is a healthy System
79.97 GB's. ( I have a 80 GB HD..
I wanted to restore my system to the factory settings ( I have all important file, music, pictures backup.
Is their any way to do this. I have tried the "system restore" , but I can't get back that far. I can only got back to May 4 2009.
Is there a "registry crack" I could do. Yes, I know the registry vert well.
