Change File Display / List As The Default Way To View Files
Mar 20, 2006I now have W XP. When I click on folders I get icons or thumbnails. I want to establish "LIST" as the default way to view files. When I click on List, it works the one time but then future clicks brings me back to the thumbnails.

Mar 14, 2006My "Recycle Bin" will not display the files within it with the correct filters while in the "Details" view.For example, I have the "View" set to "Details", and the two columns I have showing are "Name" and "Type", with "Name" selected as the preferred sort order.With those settings in place, the "Recycle Bin" is not displaying the files in the correct order.I am not sure of the order that it is displaying them, as I can't pick-up on any pattern.

May 11, 2006I love the Windows Explorer Document Tree View and I am so lazy that it bothers me to switch to the view each time I open a new window. Is there a way to set the default view to open folders with the document tree showing?I have tried switching it to the classic view, but that doesn't have the versatility of the full document tree. And, as another article has suggested, I added /e to my My Documents shortcut target, but that didn't help either.

Nov 16, 2007And of course you can go in and change it to sort by "Type" or view as "Icons" or "Thumbnails" but as so as you close it it reverts, and the next time you open it it will be back to "List" view, arranged by "Name."Having it sorted by name is acceptable, so as i said it never really bothered me, but now one of my computers is sorting by "Modified" which is just not working for me.So basically I'm trying to find out if there is a way to change the default folder/file view in these basic Open, Save, Save As, etc dialog box's.

Mar 26, 2008There was recently a problem with my internet connection in my community as it was out for a day. When I was able to get back online, there are all sorts of problems with my McAfee (i.e. I all of a sudden have no virus protection and I can't reinstall it). Also, when I go to add/remove programs, there is nothing there. Other programs are still installed in my computer and the only one I seem to be having a problem with is the McAfee, but I can't even view a list of programs that are installed on my computer. What could be causing this problem? and How can I get my computer back to normal? Is this some sort of virus?I've tried restoring my computer to different dates, and it hasn't seemed to change anything. I'm running Windows XP operating system.

Jun 14, 2005Running windows XP Pro and networked wirelessly to a windows XP home with admin priveleges. Both have latest service packs. Had same problem as some past threads regarding recalling folder view settings. Followed that advice and deleted the recommended registry lines + applied Kelly's BAG Limit fix. Reset individual folder views/settings and these now saved OK. EXCEPT as follows:Through My Comp I open Drive C: and window opens at size/pos saved but does not remember that I set VIEW/FOLDERS for a split pane.If I then continue and expand, say, My Documents, or any other folder which has had its view defined and saved, then close current window, the next time I open a folder from my desk top (eg My folder, Download, etc) it opens at the size and view settings of the "Drive C:" window. I can then reset that window view again until I repeat steps above when it is again lost.

I've walked her through the process of clicking on View at the top of the Outlook Express Interface and setting the Layout items so that her Contacts and Folder list should be on the screen, but they are not. I've tried everything I can think of to rectify the situation and I've run out of options. The way it is without her folders list she cannot access her deleted folder and her sent folder and cannot delete anything from those folders.
